Contra Costa Supervisors May Ask Gov. Newsom To Make November Election All Mail-In

by CLAYCORD.com
69 comments

The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday could decide to ask Gov. Gavin Newsom to declare the November general election as a mail-ballot-only, to dispense with in-person polling places in the name of safety from the coronavirus.

According to a county staff report, 25-percent of Contra Costa County voters, approximately 175,000, vote in person. The “vast majority” of volunteers at those polling places are seniors, a group vulnerable to get the sickest from coronavirus.

Volunteers who operate many polling locations have already notified the county Elections Office that they will not be available to serve in the November general election, because of health and safety concerns
spurred by the virus.

County elections officials say there is a “current lack of state-level consensus on a plan of action” for the election, and that local officials need to know how to prepare for the election.

Preparations in Contra Costa, the county report says, are already underway.

Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting begins at 9:30 a.m., and will be done remotely.

“Could decide to ask…?” Just do it for god’s sake.

Ann April 13, 2020 - 8:57 AM - 8:57 AM

I don’t trust that method of voting

Clyde April 13, 2020 - 11:13 AM - 11:13 AM

Let’s put it up to a vote then.

1791 April 13, 2020 - 11:38 AM - 11:38 AM

Ann,

Why, specifically?

CoCoOld April 13, 2020 - 11:53 AM - 11:53 AM

I live in a rural county and there are no precincts. Everyone votes by mail. Our county has nearly 100% turnout and there has NEVER been an accusation of voter fraud.

Oh yeah, it’s a Republican area too. We laugh at the assumption that vote-by-mail is crooked.

scott fine April 14, 2020 - 10:10 AM - 10:10 AM

I’m from CA and it’s a well known fact that the Democrats “Harvest” ballots which is incredibly un-American and should be considered treason. Dem “officials” go to all homes where there is a “mail in” Voter and ask the voter if they need help and/or want them to bring their vote to be counted. These “officials” are known to encourage the Voter to vote liberally instead of they really want to vote. Happens with senior citizens all the time. The “official” basically harasses the Voter. They throw away suspected “Republican” ballots, for obvious reasons. You can’t trust Dems. They literally vote for and support pedohiles, rapists and women abusers. (See Bill & Hillary Clinton and their really close friend Jeffrey Epstein and Harvey Weinstein). Nice company!

Clyde April 14, 2020 - 10:41 AM - 10:41 AM

@Scott

what are you smoking and where can i get some?

Concordejet April 13, 2020 - 9:00 AM - 9:00 AM

Only if postal service dose not get shut down

weppin April 13, 2020 - 9:00 AM - 9:00 AM

Since my wife and I are usually on opposite sides politically, I think I’ll fill out her ballot when I do mine, and mail both of them in. She’ll never know.

Clyde April 13, 2020 - 11:13 AM - 11:13 AM

You’ll need to forge her signature, which is a federal crime.

1791 April 13, 2020 - 11:41 AM - 11:41 AM

Clyde,

Damn, when they make that law? I better start paying attention to what these politician types are doing…

Paul April 13, 2020 - 9:03 AM - 9:03 AM

The liberals will not like that at all. They love to scream how that is voter suppression.

Pete V April 13, 2020 - 10:49 AM - 10:49 AM

No, “voter suppression” is what certain bed-wetters amongst us scream over the common sense notion of presenting an ID in order to vote. They love mail-in since ballot harvesting is now legal in CA which allows “community organizers” to go around collecting ballots from people with absolutely ZERO chain-of-custody safeguards, precisely why Pelosi tried to sneak it into the virus relief bill…that failed, but great news, the Kennedy Center for smug intelligentsia got $25M, then promptly laid off 250 people.

1791 April 13, 2020 - 11:44 AM - 11:44 AM

Pete,

Now that’s going to set off a bunch of “fact check” responses for sure!

Captain Bebops April 13, 2020 - 9:14 AM - 9:14 AM

Just have to make sure the USPS is still in existence come November. I have voted mail-in the last few elections. They have drop off boxes at places so you don’t have to rely on your carrier to notice that you have outgoing mail (which sometimes they walk right by).

1791 April 13, 2020 - 11:46 AM - 11:46 AM

Captain,

So according to Ann, you and I have never even voted!

Captain Bebops April 13, 2020 - 12:14 PM - 12:14 PM

I believe you can check online if your ballot was counted if you jotted down your ballot number. At least I did two years ago and it was counted.

Bad idea.

Did I say that Outloud April 13, 2020 - 9:35 AM - 9:35 AM

The voters can take this into their own hands and request to be a “vote by mail” voter. My entire household has been voting by mail for years.

Justifiable languor April 13, 2020 - 10:00 AM - 10:00 AM

No! After observing the criminal behavior of Democratic politicians and Mainstream News, factual representation cannot be expected. Pelosie, Waters, Schiff, Feinstein and of course Newsom are corrupt to the core. Our own county and city officials are a perfect example of what is to come. Tax the middle class out of their homes and give themselves raises.

Do they ever listen to our concerns?

ConcordRez April 13, 2020 - 12:20 PM - 12:20 PM

Quarantine is when you restrict the movement of a sick person, tyranny is when you restrict the movement of a healthy person.

1791 April 13, 2020 - 11:56 AM - 11:56 AM

Now we have Quarantyranny. Where do I sign up to fight that?

Aaron April 14, 2020 - 5:33 PM - 5:33 PM

Might want to use a different word to make your point. The etymology of the word Quarantine comes from the Italian quaranta giorni for forty days. The Venetians would isolate ships from affected countries coming into port that long to prevent the spread of the plague.

If you only isolate the sick, then there’s no point. The estimate for coronavirus is that something like ~40% of transmissions occur from asymptomatic or presymptomatic individuals. I don’t know what the false negative rate is for the test right now, but I heard ~30%

Mike Wagner April 13, 2020 - 10:07 AM - 10:07 AM

Just do it.

And it doesn’t increase the crime rate like the President claimed in a tweet on April 11th. That’s absurd.

1791 April 13, 2020 - 11:58 AM - 11:58 AM

But everything he says is absurd, right Mike? What’s the point?

ZZ April 13, 2020 - 10:21 AM - 10:21 AM

Stop taking choices away from the people (under the guise of safety). The people working the polls get paid, not much, so they aren’t volunteers. The poll workers CHOOSE if they want to work.
And “25% of the people vote in person”. Oh please..

Bill Cutting April 13, 2020 - 10:26 AM - 10:26 AM

So you can go to the grocery store but they want you to mail the votes in yeah something smells funny here. I mean if this is the way you do it that’s fine but lots of people like to go in person. The question is do our votes even count anymore because they don’t seem to if you’re conservative here …because of demographic change and public school indoctrination centers anybody that’s a conservative our votes don’t seem to count ! this is pretty much why the American revolution was fought – taxation without representation

Gittyup April 13, 2020 - 10:58 AM - 10:58 AM

According to Gabbin Nuisiance, he’ll be making all the decisions for us from now on … under threat of Marshall Law.

Justifiable languor April 13, 2020 - 11:18 AM - 11:18 AM

Gittyup, you have described how Fascism enters through the back door. Mao, Hitler, Castro, Maduro to name a few.

Ozzie April 13, 2020 - 11:47 AM - 11:47 AM

Imagine we all went to the grocery store the same day.

Most of Ca uses absentee ballots anyway.

Silva April 13, 2020 - 3:21 PM - 3:21 PM

“So you can go to the grocery store but they want you to mail the votes in yeah something smells funny here.” That’s because if they mailed us our food supplies the smell would not be funny at all.

Bobfished April 13, 2020 - 10:40 AM - 10:40 AM

This is a bad idea. So we’re still going to be in isolation in November, I don’t think so.

Ricardoh April 13, 2020 - 10:45 AM - 10:45 AM

I don’t think my wife and I can get along for that distance.

Anon April 13, 2020 - 10:52 AM - 10:52 AM

The DMV began registering illegal aliens to vote some time ago. So our system is corrupted anyway. I’d love to see a requirement for a Real ID for people to vote. Be interesting to see if it would change the outcome of our elections.

Gittyup April 13, 2020 - 11:27 AM - 11:27 AM

Worse than DMV, Health and Human Services now indiscriminately and routinely hands out voter registration forms to anyone applying for services (MediCal, SNAP, General Assistance) which I believe are available to illegals per one of Newsom’s recent dictates.

caskydiver April 13, 2020 - 11:09 AM - 11:09 AM

No….should be in person and require REAL ID

Steven Powers April 13, 2020 - 11:20 AM - 11:20 AM

@chicken
I’m afraid it’s more like 80%.

Bill Cutting April 13, 2020 - 11:49 AM - 11:49 AM

ICE should be unleashed With the aid of the National Guard and other alphabet agencies to curb our illegal alien infestation here. Next implement the ID check statewide to vote which should’ve been in place years ago. furthermore I’ve said it for a long time charge the city officials of the sanctuary cities with the aiding and abetting criminals. Then charge local and national media/public officials of seditious conspiracy (trump Russia hoax) and a lot of the corrupt stuff will sort itself out that’s huge. Lastly our public schools have become extremely corrupt with Neo Liberal Socialist Marxist Ideology this is very very dangerous and needs to be addressed as a priority. Any teachers that promote such teachings should be removed/fired and publicly shamed to say the least. Must remove unions from government jobs that should never be allowed seems like a recipe for disaster look what happened to the BART strike when they shut down as an example of Union interference

Bobfished April 13, 2020 - 12:31 PM - 12:31 PM

You have it right a Bill!

4th generation CCC April 14, 2020 - 8:54 AM - 8:54 AM

Yes Jojo, you need to wear the tin foil hat inside. If you still have a rotary phone, turn it upside down and turn one screw counter clockwise 25%.

Original G April 13, 2020 - 12:40 PM - 12:40 PM

What are the plans to eliminate fraudulent votes ? ?

IF politicians are serious, make voter fraud a FELONY with mandatory six months jail time. Actual 180 calendar days incarcerated, no time off or half time.

Would be a step in correct direction giving citizens of CA renewed confidence in government.

slagheap April 13, 2020 - 6:16 PM - 6:16 PM

og, first they have to find some fraudulent votes – not easy, since they are an infinitesimal fraction of the vote. like, not even measurable.

mtzman April 14, 2020 - 9:57 AM - 9:57 AM

Glad you feel that way, OG, because voter fraud is already a federal crime punishable by up to 5 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. California law provides for up to 3 years in prison and a fine.

Original G April 14, 2020 - 10:38 AM - 10:38 AM

mtzman, … that’s good to hear, thanks for info.

Unfortunately is a crime that is not enforced enough,
moreover every conviction should be- widely publicized.

Much like mail theft, we rarely hear of prosecutions, convictions and sentences. There is no deterrence of crime if criminals don’t hear of consequences other criminals have suffered.

slagheap April 14, 2020 - 12:29 PM - 12:29 PM

og, you don’t seem to get it. THERE IS NONE.

Cellophane April 13, 2020 - 12:44 PM - 12:44 PM

I really don’t believe it matters much if people vote by mail or in person.

With no verifiable ID, everyone can vote early and vote often.

If votes are restricted to mail only, the winner of each election will be determined by which side has the better vote fraud apparatus. Who can generate the most rigged votes?

This already being a far-left state and looking to go even farther left, voting will soon be a non-issue.

There will be one candidate, everyone will vote for that candidate if someone doesn’t vote they’ll be shot.

How much simpler can it get?

sp April 13, 2020 - 2:41 PM - 2:41 PM

My daughter has lived in and been a registered voter of another state for three years, but I still get an absentee ballot in the mail for her here, an address she hasn’t used for those three years. Why is that? It appears to me that there is too much room for fraud in the current systems.

Kentucky Derby April 13, 2020 - 2:59 PM - 2:59 PM

A registered voter needs to fill out a cancellation of registration form and send it to state or local offices.

America April 13, 2020 - 5:38 PM - 5:38 PM

It is BS , we have the flu every single year , nobody knows if the corona virus will be back , it could be one and done. It would be very easy to “lose” ballots, . We have never done this before, with the flu . This hysteria has to stop.

Bob Foo April 13, 2020 - 5:42 PM - 5:42 PM

Here’s a deal for ya, State of California: I’ll fill out my census if you let me vote in-person.

Mike Wagner April 14, 2020 - 10:11 AM - 10:11 AM

But King Trump says…

“When somebody is the President of the United States, the authority is total. And that’s the way it’s got to be — it’s total. And the governors know that.”
