FYI- On January 23, 2020, Communist China banned all travel between Hubei and the rest of China…BUT NOT between Hubei and the rest of the world. This is why I call it Xi Corona Virus.

WC Resident April 9, 2020 - 3:39 PM - 3:39 PM

It makes more sense to call it the Trump Forehead Smacking Virus.

On January 31st Trump announced the ban on direct flights from China. People in China are still allowed to enter the USA by first flying to another county. Since the ban started, 40,000 people have flown from China to the USA. Smacks forehead. Looking more at the big picture, At least 430,000 people have flown to the USA from China since December 31. 2019 which is when China informed the WHO about cases of novel coronavirus in Wuhan. Double smack.

The barn had already burned down to its foundation by the time Trump implemented the travel from China ban.

The key to dealing with outbreaks is to jump on them early.

Xi Corona Virus? I like it! I usually use Wuhan Flu or Chinese Coronavirus. To expect anything good to come out of a Communist nation is grossly naive. It pains me to see the MSM parrot Chinese Communist talking points. It pains me see it on Claycord as well.

Mike Wagner April 10, 2020 - 2:33 PM - 2:33 PM

Never mind that the majority of infections in the NYC regional area came from EUROPE.

But go ahead with your spin and misinformation.
It fits in real well here with all of the ignorant conspiracy theory posters!

iKrissy April 9, 2020 - 2:24 PM - 2:24 PM

I got a Covid19 test today, will the results be assigned to City who issued it or where I reside? Also, three days to wait for results…flu test was 15 minutes. I understand, just saying…

Old-school guy April 9, 2020 - 2:33 PM - 2:33 PM

Waiting days is unacceptable. Even if the test comes back negative(fingers crossed), you may have caught it after testing.

LadyMom April 9, 2020 - 3:37 PM - 3:37 PM

Your flu test was done using completely different technology. Those types of tests are only coming online now for COVID-19. They take a lot longer to develop.

DVC Student April 9, 2020 - 3:48 PM - 3:48 PM

Why were you tested?

Are you sick? Do you have symptoms?
Give us some context.

WC Resident April 9, 2020 - 3:48 PM - 3:48 PM

@iKrissy – Yes, the results reported for the city and county where you reside. It’s an interesting system. There are people in local hospitals but they don’t show up in the local numbers and instead are record/reported for wherever they live. That’s also true of county residents that may have been tested positive and may also be treated treated elsewhere. The county’s by-city report has a city called “Other/Unspecified” with ten people.

Mike Wagner April 9, 2020 - 4:24 PM - 4:24 PM

Krissy, your Covid-19 test obviously went to a Lab that uses a real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR) test for the qualitative detection of nucleic acid from SARS-CoV-2 via a respiratory specimen from a nasal swab.

A 3 day turnaround time is quite normal.

Anonymous April 9, 2020 - 8:30 PM - 8:30 PM

@iKrissy – my husband got tested this week and was told 24 hours for results. He got them about 18 hours after testing. Hopefully you’ll get yours sooner.

Annoyed April 10, 2020 - 8:26 AM - 8:26 AM

Someone I know was tested, they said up to a week for results, but ended up getting results in 24hrs.

The media wants to inflate the alarm or creates a perceived crisis by citing individual cases but in other statistics buries its effect when expressed as percentages.

Please post the percentage of the each population infected by COVID-19.

just me April 9, 2020 - 3:14 PM - 3:14 PM

About 0.03% of the population in Concord has tested positive.
They need to give more info.
How many people that died did NOT have an underlying condition?
How many hospitalized did NOT have an underlying condition?
What city are the hospitalized people from?
How do they keep it from spreading when those that test positive and and only have mild symptoms are sent home?
Don’t those people still need groceries?
Do they honestly think telling people to self quarantine is gong to stop them from getting food?
Are they providing masks to those that test positive???????

just me April 9, 2020 - 2:57 PM - 2:57 PM

Less than 1% of the population in Contra Costa County have been tested.

To those who posted sign in Clayton thanking essential workers, it is appreciated.

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) has again reduced is number of predicted deaths for CA to 1,611.
Curve evidently is flattening.

Mike Wagner April 9, 2020 - 4:32 PM - 4:32 PM

Yup.
Thank God we have a Governor that took this virus seriously back on March 16th. Covid-19 is 2.5x to 3x more contagious than the Flu.

Here is the real-time data for California from the IHME. According to the IHME at University of Washington, we are 6 days until the projected peak in daily deaths.

The Fearless Spectator April 9, 2020 - 6:53 PM - 6:53 PM

Thank God Governor Newsom is planning on “exporting” respirators to other states! Such a humanitarian of endless resources; and humble also…..

Refering to California as a “Nation-State” demonstrates arrongance on par with anything President Trump has ever said. He is quite the opportunist. What would he ever do without the Coronavirus……..

parent April 9, 2020 - 9:50 PM - 9:50 PM

@Fearless
Maybe he figures he will not get enough votes for President, so if he make his own Nation, he would be in charge, for life! NewSCUM!

commoncents April 9, 2020 - 10:17 PM - 10:17 PM

@ The Fearless Spectator – loved Newsom pricking Trump with the “Nation State” jab and sending the ventilators to other states who likely were having to bend over to get Trump to send them a few. Hopefully the first 200 million masks imported are guarded by CHP or better a bunch or reporters so that Kushner and FEMA don’t swoop in and grab them to sell at a premium.

Gittyup April 10, 2020 - 5:41 AM - 5:41 AM

Newsom has appointed himself King of California and his subjects, the citizens of his “Nation State,” are under threat of Marshall Law if they disobey his dictates. He’s really just a small-time dictator. Thank you Democrats for electing another clown to run the State.

Ozzie April 10, 2020 - 8:40 AM - 8:40 AM

With the feeble attempt by trump to deal with this I’m glad we have someone that steps up and gets the job done. And if that means becoming a Nation-State great.

What state will be next?

Remember we are all in this together, at least at the state level.

parent April 10, 2020 - 9:39 AM - 9:39 AM

@Gittyup
King Newscum … yeah, not my king. Unfortunately he is my governor, and moreso, I voted for him – what a HUGE mistake that was. Taking a time like this, a national ‘crisis’ and using it for his own political and personal gain. We need a leader who is in it for the people, not for his own glory seeking agenda.

DVC Student April 9, 2020 - 4:03 PM - 4:03 PM

I drove by the CoCo County Regional Hospital in Martinez & saw several large white tents including with sidewalls in the parking lot. They even had outhouses next to them indicating people are there for extended periods of time.

Does anyone know if that’s where they’re housing the coronavirus patients (they have 31) or do you think that’s an intake of suspected coronavirus patients & they bring the positive ones into the hospital?

I asked earlier – I’m just getting more opinions.

DVC Student April 9, 2020 - 4:07 PM - 4:07 PM

Some say California’s curve is flattening but in my neighborhood, they are not self-isolating. Neighbors are in the street chit-chatting with other neighbors & their children are playing with other children.

Groups of people are walking on the sidewalk but when they come upon another group of people, they all walk right thru each other.

Same Here April 9, 2020 - 6:03 PM - 6:03 PM

Same thing in my neighborhood people coming and going as usual. Close group chatting, kids playing as usual, gardeners continue with leaf blowers and workers coming to houses etc. I guess some just say the rules aren’t for “them” and they won’t get the Coronavirus.

WC Resident April 10, 2020 - 10:12 AM - 10:12 AM

In my area the neighbors are chatting but from across the street. The children are playing outside but stick to family groups or play socially distanced games with neighbor kids such as bouncing balls to each other. While bounding a ball creates some risk of transmission it’s low and is in populations that are more likely to have no or very mild symptoms should they and/or their families catch COVID-19.

Those neighbors that are older are still taking their walks and bicycle rides. Everyone still chats with them but also respects their space which is nearly always closer to 12 to 15 feet. The ones I’ve asked about feeling isolated as their group activities have been canceled say they are fine as they all have phones, Internet access, TV sets, and can still watch the neighborhood activity and chat with people while puttering about heir yards..

Officials in Yuba and Sutter counties said beginning Friday, visitors to county facilities are required to wear face masks and will be screened for coronavirus symptoms prior to entry.

IKrissy April 10, 2020 - 5:01 AM - 5:01 AM

Answers; my symptoms; soaking night sweats, chills, loss of apatite, weak, on and off for 10+ days, with NO respiratory symptoms. I’ve maintained isolation week prior to the start of my illness. I put off calling doctor to let it run it’s course and not take away from those who really are suffering. I finally did call my doctor, the system was amazingly flawless. Nurse called me, asked the questions, made a phone appointment; doctor called me, advised i go to respiratory urgent care, Treat Blvd. (excellent). I checked in at tent, waited in car, nurse called to meet me at door, took all vitals etc. flu swab, met with doctor, who administered the COVID test, advised I was negative for flu, go home keep isolated keep nutrition, fluids, rest, wait for lab results. Current, No symptom now 24 hours, still tired and weak. Need to get my butt in gear and get over it. 😀 (60 woman, never been this sick for this long)

Kim April 10, 2020 - 8:09 AM - 8:09 AM

My business in San Francisco is going to fail.
Most business owners I talk to say they are already gone or will be in a week. Estimates are 60% of small businesses will go out now.
10 deaths in San Francisco millions of businesses to fail.
This is the most destructive thing to this country ever.
Herd immunity is the only thing that works you dolts. The schools need to stay open, children get a very light case spread it around. For herd immunity 80% of the population gets the virus. Only the old need to stay inside for 4 wks, then its gone. Shelter in place kills more old people.
Shut down, it comes back in the fall.
Oh by the way dolts, you can’t get this outside so why are you wearing masks?
Japan 126 million didn’t destroy their economy 99 deaths.
Wake up, destroyed economy is going to kill many more.

parent April 10, 2020 - 9:44 AM - 9:44 AM

Kim
I have two friends with small business in SF, they are losing their business at the end of April if we are not reopened. I feel for you and them.
As a community we should be aware that families are losing their livelihoods, families will become homeless because the no rent thing will not be sustainable for the landlords, all because politicians (wanna be kings) and some people are afraid of losing some constituents. I get it! I realy really do! But, we lose more people through DUI, Suicide, Diabetes, the Seasonal Flu, car accidents, etc every year and we do NOT take these draconian measures. Yes! I would cry like a baby if my parents or children or spouse died as a result of this, but some day we have to figure out if the impact of this is worth it all ….

Barbie Girl April 10, 2020 - 11:01 AM - 11:01 AM

I have 2 friends in their 20s, very healthy got it. Sick and hospitalized with respiratory symptoms. The 20 year old died. My cousin 26 years old got it, was sick and hospitalized and then relapsed. They sent her home with an inhaler. She’s on the mend after a month. My other friend, 27 years old very healthy got it and then developed Tonsillitis and Mono. We are also losing a business (hotel) . We’ve let go most of the employees and will not be bringing them back even when this thing is over. We realize we can run with fewer employees.

Mike Wagner April 14, 2020 - 12:07 PM - 12:07 PM

Youre frustration is clear, but perhaps you should be applying for one of the many Small Business Loans that are available… some of which wind up becoming “grants” if you don’t wind up laying anyone off.

The reason that I mention the above, is because your knowledge base regarding this virus is quite poor.

You should focus on keeping your business alive. Not on a novel virus that you know very little about.

JayZ April 11, 2020 - 1:07 PM - 1:07 PM

@Kim and @Parent,

I am sorry your businesses are suffering because of this. The fact of the matter is this pandemic is the same as the 1918 flu in terms of mortality, and infection rate – except we have a much larger population and a healthcare system that can’t support 1918 hospitalization rates. It’s easy to armchair this thing, but we need to learn from history – this isn’t the first pandemic we have faced, and while tough medicine will be hard on many Americans, it won’t be nearly as hard if our healthcare system collapses.

If you don’t want to take the time to understand the exponential data we have, potential growth rate, and the strain on our existing medical workers – you will just have to trust our medical leadership and elected officials to get us through this – just like they did in 1918.
