Contra Costa County is setting up a center to accept community donations of protective equipment and supplies for use by health care providers around the county.

The center will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at San Ramon City Hall, 7000 Bollinger Canyon Road.

Contra Costa Health Services is asking for help from businesses and residents with donations of eye protection, such as goggles and face shields; unopened antibacterial and disinfecting wipes, typically alcohol or
bleach based (no baby wipes); N-95 and surgical masks in unopened containers/boxes; and waterproof gowns, coveralls and sleeved aprons.

It’s very telling when a country such as America has to plead for PPE. Let this be a lesson to everything that a Nation that doesn’t product what it needs will always be vulnerable. Force lawmakers and corporations to buy/make their products in America!

It’s a reflection of the dismantling of prior planning, a lack of foresight, and the failure of taking preventative action months before this was an issue.

The Just-In-Time model of inventory management and manufacturing has been the siren song of c-suite suits for more than 20 years. This is the result. It doesn’t help that businesses were taxed based on the size of their inventories.

Only one place to donate? Not exactly centrally located us it.

You can always donate to your local hospital personally. Our healthcare professionals really need support by communities so if you have a surplus or extra masks, gloves, gowns, etc. it could go a long way. 🙂

We were first told that masks wouldn’t protect us and that we shouldn’t buy them so they’d be available for health care workers. That mixed message did not resonate with me, so I’ve been using the N95 masks I bought during last year’s fires. Now, long after the horse has left the barn, we’re being advised that they might help. It seems to me that if we had been using masks all along, the health care system would have fewer patients to help. The Pandemic Response Team would have known this, but it was disbanded in 2017. If the National Medical Stockpile had been adequately maintained, we might actually have had enough masks to protect the people. This is a war and this administration is definitely not capable of leading the charge. Most draft dodgers don’t get it.

The Strategic National Stockpile has always been about supporting the states. It was never meant to serve as the go-to medical supply source. It’s there to augment the supply the states always have. We are a republic, after all, and each state is tasked with maintaining necessary inventories of critical medical supplies. Between JIT inventory and careless state governments, this was an accident waiting to happen. It doesn’t help that Chinese nationals (including students) bought out all the N95 masks in the US in January and February to sell in China, before we had time to protect critical supplies.

It’s very odd to me that the county is looking for donations on top of the taxes we already pay.

I understand the need for hard to find supplies right now.

I know that even a few people who have extra supplies will help.

The Government wants us to depend upon them for everything.

But we simply cannot.

Governments are inherently inept.

People need to be prepared to take care of themselves.

No where has our Government been more inept than with the current Trump Administration.

This is the guy that said back in 2016 that “I alone can fix it”

But in 2020 he says, “It’s up to the individual states”

Their response has been like a Chinese Fire Drill.

Never mind that our Military Intelligence Agencies knew about the pandemic in China ALL THE WAY BACK IN NOVEMBER.

Epic Fail.

Wagner,

I’m sure you looked up that expression used to refer to the Trump administration and you’ll attempt to spin it as being racist.

I say bull$hit. You epitomize what racism is.

The only “hater” is the Wagner Shill spreading propaganda and dogma.
