The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.
The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon.
Today’s question:
QUESTION: Once the shelter-at-home is over, what’s the first store/restaurant you plan to visit?
Talk about it.
the one that I run. We’ve been closed since this started.
Details? Perfect opportunity…
I’m so sorry to hear that, Miguel. Would you mind sharing your restaurant with us? I’d happily send you my business as soon as the SIP is over and you guys re-open!
@miguel – What’s your restaurant?
I appreciate the love everyone, thank you! I manage at Sasa in Walnut Creek. Can’t wait to see the staff, the regulars, and help spread some love to our neighbors too.
sorry to hear that Miguel but your not the only one whos in that situation
Hey, that looks nice!
Stadium Pub in Walnut Creek!
The Pub is now open for take out. As of last week.
108RS
Brasas do Brazil. I really hope they survive this.
rocco’s retuarante. I plan on supporting the businesses that supported the community during hard times.
Rocco’s is simply the best!!! Gluten free dairy free pizza for those of us who require that they’re amazing!!
The Lettuce Inn!
Hair’s the Place in Clayton for a haircut
LOL.
I’m not going out anywhere for about two months until the mayhem dies down.
I thought the panic of people was bad at the beginning of this thing.
When people are cut loose, the dangerous traffic, rude crowds, and general meanness will return to a lot of people.
That’s when I’ll self-quarantine.
BTW, the very first thing I am going to do is climb on a plane and go see my Dad and Brother.
Stores are still open, the shelter in place hasn’t prevented me from going to the store when I need something. Once the shelter is over, one of the first things I will do is visit family and friends, that’s what I miss the most.
My daughter and her husband are great gourmet cooks, I’d rather eat at their home than any restaurant.
Olive Garden
I take it you haven’t tried Fiore in Concord yet if Olive Garden is on your radar… 🙂
Country Waffle at the Clayton Station Shopping Center then La Veranda
Probably break my diet for one day and try Mona’s Bar & Grill. Been wanting to try it for a long time now.
Simonpure ~ Good to hear/see you here!
Been to Mona’s and think you will like it. Next thing for me to try will be the fish & chips there,….hear it’s tasty. How are You & the Missy, pup and have you been able to visit with the grand-kiddos?
Stay safe & healthy my friend 🙂
Good morning my friend Roz. I’m torn between the burger or F&Cs. We are doing well. Grandchildren have been here most of the time. My son is working from my home during these trying times. Puppy has more energy than the kids. LOL. I need to go to work to get some rest:) Wishing you wellness girl…Love ya!
This will be like a tidal wave. The rush in is going on now. The rush out will be as bad or worse. Stay in and avoid the mess people.
^This^.
I’ve been practicing this for years, as I avoid the crazies during the holiday seasons.
I am happy to be a great cook and love to cook. I wish I could invite others but we are not allowed and it sure is not safe. I live in Walnut Creek and I see from the newly published stats we have about 27 cases of positive virus folks. So it is here, just have no idea where. I will take the precautions. I do not like to eat out anyway unless it is for lunch when I am shopping. I do not like the expense or the time it takes to go to out to eat. I like In and Out and Wendy’s both of which I think have curbside service. I am looking forward to walking at the Lafayette Reservoir instead of eating food out.
I want to have my family over to cook for them. I miss cooking breakfast for my mom after going to the gym and hosting dinners on the weekend for my in-laws.
I’m not a huge shopper, but perusing some shops in Berkeley or Alameda would be fun. I don’t see myself going out to eat anytime soon. I feel badly for the businesses that are suffering and will have a near impossible time recovering from this and the paranoia to follow. I’d like to go to The Lettuce Inn on Pacheco St in Concord to support them, but we have decided to not eat out for a long time to save money and limit our contact with others as much as possible. Food prep included.
The question assumes any of them (or even us) survive.
Sportsclips for haircut and then Big5 for more ammo.
Postino in Lafayette, or Bella Sienna in Benicia.
La Pancho Mexican restaurant at the BART terminal shopping center
theyre open doing take out
Melos
I don’t eat out a lot, I like to cook. Usually when I eat out it is because I’m having lunch with a girl friend. When this happened I was just about planning on setting up luncheon dates with 3 girl friends. Of course that was put on hold, so that will be first on my agenda, that and driving down to Pasadena and see my grandson, who should make his entrance within a week.
My girl friends don’t live close by 1 in Petaluma, 1 in Windsor and 1 in Los Gatos, so we usually meet in between or Sonoma etc.
I also, before this happened, had planned on spending a day off in Benicia,(since I use to live there) going to the shops on First Street and having lunch at one of the restaurants there. So when everything opens up I will still do that.
Hanne,
Since you lived in Benicia, do you rember Lacey Ellen, I really enjoyed going in that store? I know that the owner had or has Filthy Gorgerous but I only saw the one in WC though I believe that they moved back to.
Benicia somewhere?!
Dreaming of seeing Wonder Woman in the theatre and maybe having some “burnt tips” and sweet tea at Back 40 Texas BBQ before the movie!
Just don’t order their takeout. It’s all old moldy leftovers!. Not nice to take advantage of customers.
Dee No don’t remember that store, does not mean I wouldn’t have gone in there. I moved from Benicia 11 years ago. When I lived there I pretty much went to every store at one point on First Street. My favorite was Studio 41 and the glass blowing studio’s Zellique, Smyer’s and Lindsay, unfortunately only Lindsay is still open.
Visit family and friends. I will cook and bake for them. I’m knitting and quilting for them too. We’re currently supporting local businesses (almost every day) and staying home as much as possible. Thank you for delivering, and taking care of the community.
Aunt Barbara, Are you for real? Every post is about something not working in your life. Stores out of TP, you seem to know a lot of people that are depressed and suicidal, or think most people are. You get lousy service at Macy’s and now you claim when you order take out you got old left overs. I really feel bad for you, doesn’t sound like a very nice life.
By the way in these days of yelp and social media how many restaurants could stay in business if they actually did send out old left overs. Have you tried more than one restaurant? You could always go on the website and look at the reviews.
Get a haircut.
Sacramento Gun Club.
That looks like good clean fun. Have you been before Atticus Thraxx?🙂
Don’t you mean Sacramento Valley Shooting Center? 🙂
1,000 yard range.
My picture is in the clubhouse Silva. Something about bad checks? 😝 No, I’ve shot there as a guest but I’m not a member. They have Bronze, Silver and VIP membership packages I’m looking at now. VIP package is like $75 a month and you get to use the VIP lounge and VIP shooting lanes. Neither of which I’ve even seen. Which is the point I guess. Might try it for a year and see. I’m not much for public lounging but VIP shooting lanes sound appealing. Maybe talk them into some 1000 yard lanes if I offer to chip in. Assuming I’m not flat broke by summer. 😷😬
Yeah! You owe it to yourself.😊
My barber for a haircut! My hair is already longer than it’s been my entire life. I’m going to look like Tom Hanks in Castaway by the time this thing is over!
Haha! My sons hair too 😄
All of them.
I just hope they’re all able to open again. I don’t eat out much and my area is saturated mostly with large corporate fast food which I rarely if ever eat. I’d really like to know we could head to our nearby taco/burrito stand whenever we got the urge, the one in the original Taco Bell on clayton Road, and have a bit of a splurge and support the family run Momo N Curry Indian Nepalese restaurant. I’ve still never tried the Italian place in the Vineyards shopping center, maybe I’d give that a try first for that very reason! Sometimes you wait too long and the door of opportunity closes.
Ferrari of San Francisco… my car is due for service.
Probably having my Remington serviced.
Luckily, I just cleaned mine, put some new blades in it, and lubed it right before the lockdown. And I’ve been shaving about once a week now, so it’s working just like new.
Something wrong with your rifle? 🙂
AHAHAHAH!!!
Nothing wrong with my Remington. I just like to have it cleaned and checked periodically to avoid any unexpected mishaps.
Orchard Nursery – to get ready for summer.
I’ll be glad when Farmers Market opens at Todos Santos Park again.
I second the farmer’s market. Not just for the fresh produce and wonderful breads, hummus, etc., but to support the hardworking farmers and small business owners that make delicious food products.
You did mean Todos Santos PLAZA, didn’t you? It isn’t a park.
@ anotheranon ~
Yes,…Todos Santos Plaza,…the Farmers Market is set up around Todos Santos Park,…or is the Park a different name?
Me too, I can’t wait to get some fresh squash and basil, and other stuff, also the tomatoes I get there always taste better than what I get anywhere else.
Roz, that whole square block is named Todos Santos Plaza, so named because Concord was originally called Todos Santos, way back in 1869. To the best of my (limited) knowledge, there is no park in Concord called Todos Santos.
Thank you for the info anotheranon
As for stores, when stores open I guess I will be back to work at Macy’s. I need to upgrade my phone, not urgent, I know I can do it online, but I like to do it in person, so I can ask questions, I also need info from currant phone transferred. Definitely a hair cut, I have very short hair and usually get it cut every 6 weeks, after that it is no longer as easy to maintain. Also I need work shoes, shoes is another item I don’t like to buy online, specially shoes that I have to wear 6-8 hours a day. They store, that has a selection of the brands I like can wear, is in San Mateo, so that will be one of the first on the list. Fortunately I have friends in the area, so will work in a lunch date as well. Probably “Fish Market” in Foster City it is right on the water.
Sears!
First restaurant? The Chinese Kitchen for the lunch special and Hot and Sour Soup! First store? Orchard Nursery in Lafayette…still things I want to plant in the yard this year.
Going to the Bunny Ranch. No social distancing there.
Kaffeebohne in Furth, Germany
Dunkle Vom Fass bitte!
Pedicure for sure. Shouldn’t that be an essential business?
Il Pavone for a belated birthday celebration 😉
Almost forgot, play board games with family.
Have family lunch and/or dinner & cocktails 🍷🍺🥂🍸🍹 !
The restaurants that do open on the other side of this will have leveraged everything in order to start up again. If there isn’t a strong rush to support them, they will not make it.
I’ll be supporting the ones that closed and then re-opened because they are the hardest hit. The ones that had take out already set up are faring a lot better even though they’re still losing money. They’re just buying themselves time.
Restaurant business magazine reported today that the cheesecake factory said it’s takeout business jumped 85% but same store sales felt 46% last month. They cannot sustain that for very long.
If you’re healthy and feel that it safe, go out and support the independence that closed and then reopened. They’re going to have the toughest time
I want to go to the Library. And then to Filoli Gardens in Woodside.
Anne, I just delight in Filoli-I also need to hit the library! A kindred spirit, you are!
Fioli’s is wonderful. I lived in Foster City from 1982 to 1998, and then moved back to the Peninsula in 2009 until 2014 when I moved here to Concord. I only went to Filoli’s once in 2010 when my girl friend in San Carlos was a volunteer there. I should have gone more often when I lived close by. I love flowers, my Dad was a Gardner and we always had flowers inside and out.
First stop will be Henley’s Antiques on Clayton Road. I like going to Henley’s because there are so many awesome antique and collectible items there. It’s a fun relaxing store you can just let your mind wander. The shoppers and staff are always in a positive mood. I can’t wait until this small business owner opens up again.
Collector, I like Henleys as well, they are good folks with great stuff. Go to Minn’s for a great breakfast or lunch across the street after you buy a cool looking piece of history!
I visited Henley’s Antiques last summer. It was like a visit to the museum, I loved it! Saw stuff I hadn’t seen in 70 years.
It would be a tossup between Ed’s Mudville Grill, and Rocco’s. I like both these spots a lot, food is great both places. I like to eat local, and I also like to support small business owners that I know. The owners of these two places are great guys, both are total professionals. The are totally dedicated to giving good service and serving the best food they can.
Are you new to Claycord? I have not seen your name before sounds very Swedish. If you come here regularly you will know I’m from Denmark. Just curious.
It’s not a dating app, Hanne.
Lars has been here a long time. And y’all have a lot in common.
So, here’s what we all do. When the official date that it’s over is announced, we all meet at 11:30AM in Sun Valley Mall Food Court on the Wednesday of the following week.
Carry with you an empty toilet paper roll with “I Survived” written on it in bold black. No, you don’t have to say who you are, I think we may be able to figure some of us out.
NOTE: You better Brown Bag it, well because you know…
Especially if I’m back at Macy’s and wear my name tag, ha, ha. Usually when I go out in the mall I take it of, but sometimes I forget.
That would be interesting,….kind of fun.
Hanne,…I have two items to hunt down at Macy’s once it opens.
Will visit and say HI!
Gittyup, You are presuming to much. I was merely curious if it was another Scandinavian, nothing unusual about that.
Not that it is any of your business, but I gave up dating years ago.
I decided when looking back on the years I had been single, before and after marriage, I had used up my dating quota, my fun and party quota.
Now I keep busy answering comments on Claycord.
😂👍
Not that its any of my business, but I’m sure you’ll tell be your life history about it anyway!
Let’s revisit the meeting at Sun Valley mall. If we decide to do it, and I think it would be fun and interesting. However, we want to make sure as many of us that are interested can make it. Don’t know how many are retired etc. I can’t always control my schedule at Macy’s, although with some notice I could probably make sure I have a break, lunch or day off that day.
It should be a fun meeting and perhaps we should keep the conversation to: Who are you, restaurants, music, movies, no politics. Just a suggestion.
Big 5 to buy more ammo. Then a haircut at Sports Clips.
Reload. After initial investment you can shoot for .4-.5 cent as a round for .45 ACP for example. And you control the quality. And you can adjust your loads for recoil and accuracy. And it’s fun. And chicks dig it.
Guns, Fishing, and Other Stuff to get more primers for reloading.
Roz, I will be happy to help you. You have to let me know through this blog when you plan to be there. Our schedule changes all the time. Hopefully it is in the woman’s bldg.
Gitty up, You can’t please everyone. I’ve reach an age where I don’t care much what people think or say about me, as long as it is not untrue or a lie.
How could I forget Half Priced Books, I missed them the month they were not here in Concord. Also Barnes and Noble, but Half Priced Books first. Not only do I want to buy a couple of books, I have books to sell, and lots of CD’s Jazz, Sixties rock, folk music and classical. I’m not getting rid of my whole music collection, but some I have gotten tired of others I can find on U tube, especially if it is just 1 or 2 songs on the CD.
Anyone have any experience with selling CD’s at either Half Priced Books or Rasputin. I have sole at HPB’s before, but never at Rasputin. Open to any advise.
Hanne – I’ve never sold at Rasputin’s or HPB, but I’ve donated music, and was offered what I thought was pretty fair. I just wanted someone to enjoy my music as much as I did. This was awhile ago.
Cinco de Mayo in Martinez. And they better have some salsa verde this time!
GittyUp, Ups I screwed up again since untrue and a lie is redundant. English might be my second language, but I do understand the difference.
Kentucky derby I will probably go to Half Priced Books, I have always been pleased with their customer service whether I was buying or selling. Money no a huge issue, but would like to get something for my items. Then I can buy more books.
Scott’s Seafood in Walnut Creek with my husband, daughter, son-in and granddaughter. After that I will get Haircut…Facial…Massage and Mani/Pedi. After that…I am off to the Caribbean. We were supposed to leave next Saturday, but here we are.
Buy American. See America First.
Roaring 20’s baby broadway SF !!
Golly Aunt Barbara, I sure hope that you find a measure of peace in your life!
Dee, so agree with you, Aunt Barbara always has something to complain about. She wrote awhile back that Macy’s has terrible customer service. I work at Macy’s, and I can guarantee most of the sales associate want nothing more than to please the customers. Of course, at times you might get poor service, usually a new employee or someone having a bad day.
I have worked at 2 Macy’s Palo Alto for 9 years, and Sun Valley Mall since November, and this is my experience with customer’s 90% are very nice, and very appreciative. Another perhaps 5% are a little difficult, but if you know how to handle them they will come around.
About 3% can be very difficult, and sometime a manager or senior associate has to step in to placate them. The last 2% are difficult and complain from the moment they step in the store, and there is NOTHING you can do to please them, no matter how hard you try.
Guess we can all figure out where Aunt Barbara belongs.
@Dee Wood….Give Aunt Barbara a break, the leaf blower guys have her in a tizzy….I wonder what her “Leaf Blower Count” was this last weekend?
Macy’s started slipping about 9 years ago. Something about their overly chatty salesclerks got on everybody’s nerves.
Taco Bell!
Gitty Up, Yes I kind of agree, but that is not only Macy’s that seems to be prevalent almost anywhere you shop. I especially hate when someone asks “How is you day going so far”, I’m pretty sure if I gave an honest answer when I’m having a bad day, the sales person don’t really want to know about. Once when I had a really bad day I said lousy. Clerk didn’t know how to answer. Anyway that won’t be me, I try to stay focused on the customer. If someone is buying a dress for a trip or wedding I will ask, where they are going etc. just small talk, and always get back to what is the customer looking for.
For local stores…. those belonging to my dear friends in El Monte Shopping Center on Clayton Rd: So those are Min’s Kitchen, Henley’s Antiques, and Berkshire Books.
For adventure: Oh how I would love to hold our first great-grandchild, who was born in Maryland on March 21st!
And to get there, I would like to be a 1st Class passenger on a flight our daughter works into Dulles International, Washington International, or into whatever the airport up in Baltimore is called.
Sigh…….
Baltimore Washington International (BWI)? Many congratulations, Antler!!!💖
Maybe the local gym, out of necessity. But Orange Theory is probably out of the question, since their whole fitness training model is prone for exposing their members to coronavirus.
No desire to visit theaters, restaurants in the near future. Only grocery stores out of necessity.
Antler, ohhh I hope you are able to hold your first grandchild soon.
Not right away, but I look forward to a good dinner at EJ Phair. We’ve tried to support local restaurants once a week for take out. I’m not in a hurry to rush out when they say we can, but their El Diablo burger sounds great right now.
a Brothel….. the ones that have a menu for what scene I want.
