Why is this meeting in an American city about an American school district with American citizens being discussed in Spanish? Diversity? Inclusion? Sure wish the MDUSD felt the same about Special Needs children as they do about non-English speaking folks.
Because many students in the district, and more importantly, their parents watching this for the latest info from MDUSD, do not speak English fluently. Isn’t that enough reason?
It’s not like the entire meeting, or even the majority of it, is in Spanish.
Heaven forbid we try to get the info to those parents that English is not their first language.

don’t intend to watch it… The Suit started with they are down thru May 1st. Since then the State Superintendent released letter that it appears all schools closed the rest of the year… Did the meeting share this or were they not aware yet?
My hat is off to you if you watched the whole meeting.

Rather than talk about prioritizing one group over another, why not offer constructive suggestions on how the group you champion can be helped? What do YOU believe that YOU and the district can do together to assist kids with Special Needs?
I was never a teacher but after retiring from almost 4 decades in another industry, I started working as a substitute teacher in 2003. Believe me, many, many, many, many of OUR students are from Spanish-speaking families. These parents need to understand what is happening as much as any others. These are terrible times. Let us work together and with heart.
ConcordRez. Thank you for sharing so much of your personal experience with use. The district has many program’s for “special needs” student’s . The district, schools administration, teacher’s and many others are working as hard as they can in order to help ALL students . The goal is to continue learning. It takes time.
@ConcordRez, it’s not wise for YOU to make assumptions when YOU don’t have the facts. Here are some for YOU: Fact, I have offered constructive suggestions for 18 years. Fact, many, many, many, many students are from Spanish-speaking families that have lived in the United States for years and have had ample opportunities to learn English. Fact, I was a teachers assistant. Fact, I have a child with special needs who went through the MD school system and I know exactly what I’m talking about. Sorry for YOU Rez, and you being a sub teacher has got nothing to do with anything.

English as a Second Language is taught widely in Adult Education, even in MDUSD. Learn the language!
Totally agree! I would bet that most of the Spanish speaking only parents have lived in this country for several years. If you are going to permanently move to a country, you need to assimilate into the society and learn the language. It shouldn’t be up to us to assimilate into their cultures, language, etc. Many come here for the betterment of their children. Unfortunately, they don’t care to realize they are part of that equation. If they don’t support the English language at home, English will always be a second language for their kids!

As a teacher in this district I would say the majority of people are unaware of the enormous amounts of services offered for special education students and their families.

It’s one thing to have a separate Spanish translation, but having to fast-forward 50 times for the benefit of Spanish speakers really gives one an idea of who MDUSD cares about. And it’s not Americans. MDUSD is going downhill quickly.

I emailed in several questions and they didn’t touch on one of them. This wasn’t a town hall meeting. It was simply a chance to get their word out. You can do that in an email! The parents have questions and you need to address them! That’s what town hall meetings are for.
