Contra Costa is now reporting 131 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the county, which is 23 more than yesterday.

One person (a Contra Costa man in his 70s with underlying health conditions who recently traveled outside the country) has died from the coronavirus in the county, according to the health department.

The health department does not release any further details, including the cities of those infected, or the number of people currently hospitalized.

There was an influx of testing done on 3/23, where CA more than doubled all of their tests to date. Those results would be coming in about now. More tests done = more confirmed cases.

Total number of cases doesn’t really provide useful information.
# of cases per day, compared to prior days is somewhat more meaningful, ie, Monday 15 cases, Tues, 20 cases, Wed, 35 cases. At least this shows if trend is up or down.
Best information would be # of positive tests per day against # of total tests given per day.

131 cases but is there an epicenter are are they equally distributed? Never the whole story just the sensationalism that is splashed across all the news.

Getting an idea what it must have been like monitoring Fermi’s Chicago Pile – 1

Too bad we don’t have an effective control rod. All we can do is scatter the fuel.

I love hearing Nuc talk.

Don’t forget that at least 85% of cases aren’t counted as people with mild or moderate symptoms don’t get tested. And that doesn’t count all the asymptomatic cases. One medical expert guessed the real number is 10x the reported number. But…

The small town of Vo Euganeo in Northern Italy was surprised to find a local, community acquired case less than 2 weeks after the first positive case in the country. The mayor ordered all 3341 residents tested. A shocking 90 of them tested positive.

So the real number of infections is probably between 10 and 100 times the reported numbers. Sadly, many important decisions are being made based on the confirmed cases, despite the testing shortage and restrictions.

It just goes to show that maybe “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself”.

I sad that a lot of people here in concord that still is not listening to stay at home. There is a lot of kids out in the street specially in the parks playing soccer they think is not really something more drastic needs to happen. I when out for food after stay home a week 1/2 and there were kid playing soccer in the Kruger Park in Cowell road.

Is there any way to break it down by City? That would be more useful to me.

The county doesn’t seem to care about being useful. Where are the cases coming from and how many are in hospitals. How many of the 131 are now over the illness. Everything is better sensationalized with the media. Another is where are people being treated.

You said it so well! Any answers?

Was out this briefly this morning to get gas while Grandma got her groceries, post office, then component for potting soil and roads were fairly empty. Clayton PD doing great job of being visible during all this. Thank You to them.

Even though I dislike reading about this virus when I come to this news site and despite knowing that there still is a lot to learn about it, I can’t help but wonder if getting the flu shot could make a difference. I will like to know how many of those who have Covid-19 got the flu shot this year. And before any known-it-all comes with a “duh” comment to me, let me tell you that I try not watching the news and science is not my strong subject so instead of criticizing my lack of education take the time to educate me and the others who read this blog. Oh! and please, tone down making this a political issue.
Have a nice day everyone and let’s enjoy this moment as best as possible. Most specially, thank you to those who are out there working to help others get through this.

PESFG I’ll tell you what I know. Quick answer is no, the vaccine for Type-A and Type-B seasonal flu virus will not in any way protect you from this new virus. You have a nice day too. 😄

Unfortunately, the flu shot doesn’t prevent you from getting covid-19. The virus that causes covid-19 has no real similarity to the flu virus, so the flu vaccine doesn’t help your body recognize covid-19 and fight it faster.

The advantage of getting the flu vaccine (beyond reducing the chances of getting the flu and making complications less likely if you do get it) is mostly in helping reduce the likelihood that you will get a disease that can be mistaken for covid-19.

@Atticus Thraxx @Kari Q. That you both for your answers.

I’ll bet that there is a vaccination for this flu but the politicians and the pharmaceutical’s haven’t figured out how much profit they will get. I know that one pill could cost $1000.

I’ll bet your tinfoil hat is on way too tight.

You forgot the Q in front of your handle.

These 131 people who are sick, are they the same people who felt the need to rush to the stores and hoard things? Ya know, cause they were around all those people and not 6 feet apart at that time.

I just found out that our esteemed city council woman Julie Pierce called the cops on the Oakhearst Country Club in Clayton. After getting an explanation why Oakhearst was partially open to members to play golf she ‘inquired’ with the county health deptartment to the ‘legality’ of the club’s actions. The health department replied that it was OK for the club to remain open with the proper precautions.

But now, after further “discussions’ the health department is shutting down the golf course completely.

Way to go Julie. You are a buzz kill. After 80 years on the city council, you are addicted to meddling in to other people’s business.

This thing is getting out of hand.

I don’t see the difference between golfing and walking your dog.

We need to vote Julie Pierce out in November. After all of these years she has not done anything positive for the city of Clayton. You can bet that if she was a golfer it would have stayed open. She is the definition of a busybody. Julie is a city council member for the purpose of satisfying her nosey personality, not for the good of Clayton.

To many people, golf is considered an activity undertaken by affluent, entitled white men with way too much spare time on their hands. Most of the haters don’t golf and are jealous of those that do.

Killing a buzz is what politicians do. Instead of electing representatives that participate in the same same activities we enjoy, we continue to get suckered into voting for elitists whose only goal seems to be taking away our civil liberties, especially during a time when THEY can argue “it’s for your own good and the safety of others”.

I went to Kaiser at the start of all this, with all of the symptoms. Including palpitations, multi-day fever, dry cough, sorethroat, and headache. I was told it was likely just the flu and turned away. Wouldn’t be surprised if I had COVID19 and was turned away and not tested. Didn’t want a hospital bed, but would have been good to be part of the statistics and tracking in the early stages.

Sharing – as part of covid response team, it’s breaks my heart to see the influx of people, seeking answers and treatment. It’s hard to balance sometimes -between rendering care and protecting own’s health. It’s tough! Yet we get through the day …. until another day!

Shortness of breath, trouble breathing? Don’t see that in your list. How are you feeling today?

I saw a comparison chart put out by the health department. COVID-19 and Flu symptoms are very similar, though headaches are rare with COVID-19. So maybe that’s why they decided not to test.

Looks like if you did have COVID-19, you had mild symptoms and are now over it. Glad you recovered without needing to be in the hospital!

I have a 72 yo friend who was told she had to stay at home for 5 weeks. Her throat has low grade pain, she has GI issues, she’s had a never ending headache for 4 days, and all over body aches. She can’t get tested unless she develops a fever, which she hasn’t. We really hope she doesn’t. She lives in Pinole, and I haven’t seen her for a couple months, thank goodness!

I don’t see the difference between golfing and walking your dog.

In golfing you “pick up your ball”, walking your dog you “pick up poop”…..big difference.

I don’t have any problems with windmills when walking my dogs.

Seriously, no carts, put people out in twosomes and don’t touch the pin without wiping it down first.

It,s only a matter of days before they close almost everything down because of the dum dums not listening to the warnings. I was at Costco today and saw some of them out with their kids without many cares. as I myself wore a mask and gloves as did others. oh well population control. just look at N.Y. everybody should watch Tucker Carlson he showed some of their leaders being defiant of the warnings over 6 weeks ago on tonight’s show. now look at New York. total lock down coming. you’ve been warned !

Are there any former or current college students out there studying statistics that can shed a bit more light on this discussion?

With the heavy reliance on statistical data during this time, I’m reminded that these statistics rely upon everyone who’s recording, sending, collecting, then reporting them to be accurate. With this being a world wide event, think about how difficult…strike that, impossible that would be!

For the record, I’ve been called a conspiracy theorist since 1963 every time somebody asks “do you believe Oswald acted alone”.

Any statistics on how many hospitalized have recovered and been sent home in CCC?
