When will the notifications of acceptance letters into NorthGate HS be sent out? Please advise. Thank you!

When will we be notified if the schools are going to reopen or stay closed for the rest of the year?

What ive noticed about Americans is,anytime they find an excuse to take the day of or the week off or the year off,or work limited hours, they will jump on the chance.Somewhere they know they will get compensated and nobody really cares. Its a lazy country. They try to dream up new holidays every year. Why on earth would they reopen the schools when everyone can just relax and act worried?

When will we find out if the schools are staying closed?

Where are the details of cleaning procedures. It was mentioned by the superintendent, but I can’t find them on the web site.

you obviously didn’t look too hard.

WE MISS OUR AYERS ELEMENTARY FAMILY!!

Seniors – Will there be a graduation at a later date for the seniors.

How does this situation affect their acceptance into college in terms on final transcripts sent to colleges. Will the colleges look at the first semester grades?

Well that was a waste of time and an hour of my life I can’t get back! After a week, the information presented was too vague and general. While I appreciate the food service and cleaning that is being undertaken, there is not enough information about school work and there has been very little communication directly from schools. I have a graduating CPHS senior and he has yet to hear from several teachers…. that is totally unacceptable.

Yup. The excuses are piling up. Try having a special Ed students, whose teachers have been incommunicado. Homeschooling is not my core skill set, nor is 24/7 supervision of my student. This is maddening.

WhoDat Girl .
I’m sorry this is a stressful time. It’s hard for everyone. I’m confused, our they your own children or students you teach? If you teach them they should not be with you 24/7. If they are your children they are your responsibility. It’s only been a week people. Give everyone a chance.

Thanks for your support. My boys are my offspring, so we’re doing the best we can. Teachers and therapists are very slow to figure out how to help us remotely, even in this age of amazing technology. I’ve made up my own educational program, because after a week of hearing nothing, it was clear I am on my own. So, we’re reading, watching Netflix Nature, writing stories about our day and just going along for the ride. In my min d, this will be my “new normal” until August. Luckily, I have lots of wine.

Question I would like to see addressed are:
1. How long will you be paying salaries for employees sitting at home unable to work?
2. Not all our schools have the same resources. What about students who don’t have a home, or a home computer with the capability to video with their teachers?
3. Not all teachers have the same resources listed above or the training to conduct on line Virtual classrooms. I know of students who have not heard from their teachers (high school). Every one is all over the place.
4. Will this impact pending classified layoffs (due in April) and contract negotiations?

We are all anxious to return to school and work. Thank you to those still working to see us through this.

As of today, high schools are handing out chrome books tomorrow. I know mt diablo and concord high are doing it tomorrow so i would bet the other high schools are as well.

I’m a teacher and every teacher I know has put an incredible amount of time into creating lessons and posting resources to help their students. This is all new to everyone and most people are working very hard to figure out next steps.

Wow, two very strong opinions from james and Part Deux. Teachers are not sitting at home doing nothing while collecting a paycheck. We are posting lessons, communicating with parents and students, arranging to get technology to students who do not have it, and caring for our own children and parents. As far as “no ability to shift when asked,” where are you getting your information? With no training and very little assistance, teachers are setting up virtual classrooms to see that our students are able to continue to learn. We had something set up the very first day of missed school. That involved working with our coworkers to share information, determining the best way for students to access materials, finding the resources that best met our needs, and communicating those decisions to our families. While many people are having to adjust to this new, and hopefully short-lived norm, the idea that educators are sitting at home enjoying a prolonged break is one born of ignorance.

As a grandma overseeing a 4th grader while he keeps up with lessons and assignments and communicates with his teacher almost daily I can vouch for this, as can many others with kids at home right now. There just are a few posters here who have lots of free time on their hands who make snide comments on all of the threads. Don’t worry about it. 😌

James says that because that’s what Americans in general do. Especially now…….the kids today are extremely lazy, which was taught to them by their lazy, all-about-me parents.

I have 2 businesses and haven’t lost a penny. One is a storage business and if people cant pay, that’s great because I then own their property.Take a day off?I could take a vacation and not lose a penny. This panic isn’t effecting me and I can sleep through this.Good luck with your woes, those of you with a “job”

a credible “Fly on the Wall” shared with me that district-wide a large majority of students are not responding or participating. But Teachers are working to provide the opportunity. Today and tomorrow; apparently some schools are offering loaner laptops in hopes this will get more students involved. Time will tell……

Exactly. Out of 32 students only 9 have gotten in contact with me (on a site they already used to stay in contact before this all went down)!

@Elem Teacher, have you initiated or followed up contact with the other 23?

Yep. Every single day I have texted, emailed and/or called. I am slowly getting responses, but it takes time. I also have the added task of finding a translator for those who do not speak English. My point is teachers are working to get out information and work. We had very little time to make this transition (less than 2 hours for me on Friday 3/13) and we all need some time and hopefully more and more students will get connected with their teachers.

I work for food services in the district. We are serving lunch every day. There are 9 schools serving lunch and we will feed anyone under 18 for free. Food Services has been surprisingly supportive of us and our family’s. We all want to get back to our “normal” life. People need to relax just a tad. You can stay healthy and be a little bit relaxed.

Thanks! Was also nice to hear your department is helping out with meals for old folks… Thanks again!

Just so you hear from another teacher on this thread, I am a high school teacher in this district. It has been one week since we were given ONE DAY to prep digital curriculum for our students. Friday, March 13 was when it was announced schools were closing. Monday, March 16 was supposed to be an in service day, which instead became a “create digital curriculum for all your courses” day. Tuesday, March 17 was the day we were asked to begin rolling out our curriculum, contact students and begin “teaching.” That was ONE WEEK AGO. I don’t know about anyone posting here, but imagine doing your job one way for your entire career, then suddenly having to do it in a completely different way, with no training, no streamlining, no assistance. I wonder how most folks would do. Also, I contacted my students via an app that is completely overloaded as most teachers are using it to connect, so some messages never even go through. I spent 3 days last week calling home to check on kids I hadn’t heard back from. I went so far as creating a spreadsheet to document who I texted, talked to directly, or left a voicemail for. I have hosted live video forums to help my students. It is their right to have an education, and it’s my job to provide it, but I’m not a wizard. I’m doing the best I can, and the majority of my colleagues are doing the same. Many have never managed a google classroom, used live video, created digital lessons, or created filmed lectures, but yea, giving us a week is too much time? Huh. I guess I see things from a different perspective. Please, be considerate to the people who take care of your children in your absence, and please take care of these children in our absence. We all want them to learn, and we are trying to figure out how to do that. Be patient. Show compassion. Be kind.

Well said

Wow how disrespectful people and parents can be! Everyone is in this soggy VM dirty environment together. I have faith that the teachers are doing the very best they can to put out assignments for their students. Give peace a chance. The ones that you trust everyday to teach your child has been fine.
No complaints as much as the old normal was. Half the parents don’t get involved with their child’s education while you go off to your own jobs. It starts at home . For students to be responsible to be raised to respect adults, teachers, the law enforcements and be proud to be an American. Let’s all remember that life is short with all that is happening I hope you explain to hour children what hard times we are going though . It’s our first time too. But as a family and a member of this community show some peace and understanding let your child know it will be okay wired but okay later .
Give them hope self esteem and all that starts at home . If your going to upset mad at teachers for you having to do a turn around about this crisis . Be a role model to everyone. Kindness ,caring ,goes along way.
I hope when things get back to some kind of normal
And students are back in school. I would like parents to thank the teachers in our districts for doing daily lessons each day of the week. When some can’t handle their own for one day. I praise the teachers who do really care about teaching. It would be so surprising to see students come back to school and have manners, respect , and gratitude for the schools they attend. That’s our job as a parent to teach our children. Show some kindness respect to everyone. THATS. ARE. JOB AS. PARENTS! Teacher do that for us everyday!!’
