Contra Costa Superior Court Takes Steps To Control Spread Of Coronavirus – Potential Jurors Can Reschedule Service

The Contra Costa County Superior Court is taking active steps to control the spread of coronavirus within the community and reduce infections.

Parties, attorneys, and jurors who are experiencing coughing, fever, or shortness of breath should not come to Court.

    • Individuals who have received a summons for jury duty may reschedule their service either online at or by calling 925-608-1000 to speak to the Court’s jury services department.
    • Parties or attorneys should contact the individual departments handling their matters for rescheduling.

The public is encouraged to refer to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention website for up-to-date information about COVID-19 symptoms.

Those who come to Court without presenting these symptoms should still practice excellent personal hygiene, such as frequent handwashing, avoiding touching the face, and coughing or sneezing into the elbow. The Court is taking extra effort to sanitize public access areas, including doors, elevators, stair rails, and other frequently-touched surfaces.

The Court’s services and business hours otherwise remain unchanged.

Martinez is the worst with Hot stuffy rooms you are held captive in to wait for hours with way too many people crammed in.

Was there last week – sent to Richmond. Canceling and rescheduling (once) online/by phone was allowed prior to service- but so was canceling (rescheduling) in person-watched someone do it. Sparse crowd, but very close quarters.

I wouldn’t answer a summons if my life depended on it, literally. The court’s are run by an incompetent person with no experience leading a California court being paid a quarter million dollars a year. Not guiltys being handed out as gifts tried by attorneys lead by an incompetent District Attorney. Great job Contra Costa residents.

The elbow is that part of the arm in back that bends in the middle and gets really wrinkled when your arm is straight. They don’t mean to cough into that, which would be pretty hard to do. They actually mean cough into your arm in the front where it bends.

I hope I get to exercise my civic duty! Spread the love!

Jury duty service is a farce….too long, too much nonsense, wait time, etc…all to the cost of the taxpayers because some local bad guys decide to commit crimes.
Last time i was selected for the process it was a criminal trial…and they wanted us to commit for 4-5 weeks which is nonsense.

There should be trials by judge, not jury until this panic blows over.
They will keep sending more summons out until somebody shows and that’s not really fair.
They should reopen the Walnut Creek court for jury trials again, not send you off to Richmond.

It’s a shame we have that pesky Constitution thingy that guarantees the right to trial by a jury of one’s peers. It’s always getting in the way of stuff that some folks want to do.
