A vacant home burned down on Belmont Ct. in Pleasant Hill this afternoon, according to ConFire.
The fire was reported around 4:30. Fire crews are still on scene.
No word yet on if anyone was injured in the blaze.

Again??? Same house that you reported on February 4th?
Reports indicate it may have been homeless squatters occupying the building.
Reports also indicate they were wearing seatbelt.
BS, No homeless are going uphill on a dead end street. The neighborhood is tight knit and they would have been exposed on the 1st day.
Anon, you are dead wrong. Homeless people will go very far for a safe place to sleep. I work for a railroad and I spend a lot of time in rural or otherwise unusual urban areas, that are difficult to access. I have seen some effort put into squatting in places you wouldn’t think.
I was driving down Ygnacio Road on the Treat side and could see the smoke and the red flames from that distance. Wow. It has to be arson.

I live in Pleasant Hill and I saw it start from my house it appeared to start like there was an explosion but here is the thing this house has been abandoned for about 30 years plus and there was no utility’s going to the house.
The owner has been trying to sell the house and the lot for quite some time (SEE LINK)

I am not a fire investigator but as quick as this went up and burned looks suspicious.

Thanks for the videos, Dave. I looked at the Zillow listing and it the first attempt to sell goes back to 2014. Wow. Sure looks suspicious especially since you put it out there that the house didn’t have any active utilities.

I drove past it and the first engine was barely arriving. The entire place was already fully engulfed. That’s not normal fire behavior. Full on and then collapse within 10. Insurance
I have video driving past and it was already going. The first engine was just arriving. I was right dow below it and the entire thing was already in flames. All sides. Wasn’t just one side, the entire structure was lit up like a box of
matches. That’s not normal fire behavior.

If there is enough fuel (material to burn) and all the doors are open, a house can become fully involved rather quickly – as in minutes. That is why it is recommended to sleep with your doors shut and keep your smoke detectors operating properly. Homes now, especially newer-ish home burn exponentially quicker than homes built 50 yrs ago.
*Not saying anything about this particular house, just pointing out that fires spread so much faster than people realize.
I hope it’s not arson too, but two homes on Belmont Ct (10 days apart) is suspicious. The lot/land (20 Whitfield Ct.) is for sale, but the house on Belmont wasn’t. I think it’s more suspicious having two houses on the same small Ct. burn down than burning down a house that wouldn’t sell, especially since it wasn’t for sale when it burned down. Whatever is going on, it’s odd.

As to the perp…could be kids, squatters, etc…but probably not an ‘act of God’.
Squatters don’t burn them anymore. They gather the media so they can get publicly evicted. The proper owner is scorned for having the termerity to own a vacant property. Then the squatters ultimately are made a gift of the property, and the tax payers handle the financing. It’s the new thing.
Back in the late 60’s I worked for a small business owner who lived in a house on Belmont Ct which was located by itself on a hilltop near Pleasant Hill Rd. I never saw the place but he said he had a turntable at the top of the driveway to get his car into the garage. I looked on Google Earth but if there is a driveway it’s obscured by trees. Anybody know of this?

Yes it is the house next to the one that caught fire, It is still there they have that so it makes it easier for the people at the top of their driveway to turn around.

If it’s true the home was vacant for 30 years, perhaps the neighbors got sick of that house being used as a flophouse by the local homeless population and as a party house by local teens? It’s been known to happen.
