Walnut Creek Police are asking residents of the Rossmoor community to slow down when driving.
Police say throughout the last three weeks, officers made 38 traffic stops, and issued many citations in Rossmoor.
Police say they’d also like to see people slow down near uncontrolled crosswalks and around curves.
Looks like some good beer money to me!
Since I’ve retired I’ve driven slower in general. And I’m extra careful in my own neighborhood.
Rossmoor streets are private.. and Rossmoor is gated. Does WCPD receive reimbursements for enforcement on private streets?
Exit 12A. Rossmoor streets are not private; they are streets of the city of Walnut Creek. I am all for WCPD coming often, as the drivers here are horrid. Drivers here think they are entitled to disregard all driving laws. If you lived here, you would know what I mean.
Sheila. You’re incorrect. Streets within the community of Rossmoor are private. Walnut Creek Public Works does not maintain them.
Still don’t believe me? Go verify with Golden Rain Foundation or contact WC Engineering at 943-5839.
Exit 12A you are wrong! They are concerned public streets, I have worked for golden Rain Foundation for 10 years. All enforcement is done through WCPD even parking enforcement is sent to WCPD through the security enforcement hired at front gate.
You are responsible for the sidewalk in front of your home but it is still public property in Contra Costa County.
The people in Rossmoor should all be allowed to drive there age.
Gotta catch the early bird dinners
I live there & wish WCPD was there more. We are all surprised there are not more accidents. Please enforce all the laws. They actually are private streets
but there is a Vehicle Code that allows WCPD to cite offenders. Stop signs are mere suggestions to many.
When my Dad lived in Rossmoor he used to warn me to drive carefully there. In his words: “these guys are all blind as bats, watch out!”
Sounds like those old folks need a few more speed traps setup out there and get them off the road if they are unsafe.
They’re targeting Seniors, that seems like discrimination to me. Lawsuit from AARP coming soon.
They’re not targeting seniors, they’re targeting speeders. Age of the offender is of no consequence.
I work around Rossmoor and people fly down Tice Valley and run red lights all the time. Everybody needs to slow down….
Do they get a senior discount? If they do it’s all good.
‘Speed Trap’ is a weak excuse for those who can’t accept the consequences of their own behavior. For those that think speed laws are wrong – make an effort to get them changed. That’s the mature thing to do.
“Go Granny, go Granny, go Granny GO!”……Jan and Dean
oh trust me, it’s scary driving in that area. Some seniors don’t hear well when you honk to alert of issues, like backing up. Don’t see well and slam through stop signs and lights. Driving really fast can be a sign of dementia also, so Police presence is needed, Usually seniors drive slower and clog traffic with their slower reflexes, which is another problem
Police also need to make sure they actually have a license to still drive.
It truly is a nightmare over in that Rossmoor shopping center, especially with Safeway all torn up for construction..
Boomers….(and the silent ones)
As my 70+ year old mother likes to say to me, “I’m sorry, It will get better for everyone after we are all dead.”
Yup, It will get better soon with the direction we are headed…
no morals, no genders, no conscience.
The Baby Boom generation encompasses individuals born 1946 to 1964. So, an individual baby boomer born in 1964 would be 56 years old today. Such an individual would still be employed and probably driving to work, shopping, etc. The average lifespan in the U.S. is 78.69 years, which many outlive, so you can figure the majority will die off by 2099 or there abouts. Good luck with that. I wouldn’t hold my breath.
Correction: Baby Boomers born in 1964 living to 79 will live to 2043 and beyond.
I work in Rossmoor and it’s the scariest place I’ve ever driven. Lots of people think stop signs are optional. Another move they love is to double up at stop signs meaning the first car comes to a stop and goes, then the car behind them will just go with them without stopping. No one here lets anyone turn left at a four way stop, nor do they pay any attention to the order of operations at 4 way stops – just go when you can force your way though, it’s fantastic. Getting out of Rossmoor there are two left hand turn lanes. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve seen cars move from the inside lane to the outside lane mid turn by the gas station. I refuse to use the outer lane just for this reason. I saw a gentleman today do a 3 point turn to get out a driveway anyone else would have just turned left out of. I could go on for days, it really is an unsafe place to drive not even talking about the people who do 65 is 25’s. Glad WPD has been handing out performance awards.
Worked inside Rossmoor for over 20 years. You learn they are going to do what they want. Seen them drive through the back of a carport twice. Back through the post office and ended up on the work room floor with the carriers. All bets are off when it rains it’s like the Wild West. Golf carts is a subject for an other day. You never walk behind a car when it’s running unless you have a death wish.
There is a certain personality type that is attracted to that kind of living and may share the quality of impaired driving as a feature of that personality.
STD rates are high there too. go figure!
Try not to picture in your head though
Ewww! In the dark, no doubt!
The Casserole Brigade are living it up! Good for them.
Aunt Barbara,. My Mom lives in a similar community and the Social Workers refer to the residents as “living their second college dorm experiences”. My Mom (widowed for many years) met a nice man there, and they dated for two years (until he fell and died shortly thereafter). Why not! Let them enjoy living!
Aunt B,
I will never be able to unsee that comment! LOL
