Contra Costa Sheriff David Livingston announced today he has assigned additional units to patrol the cities of Lafayette and Orinda.

The deputies will augment the Lafayette and Orinda Police Departments’ regular patrols and will remain in those cities until further notice.

They’ll work both daytime and nighttime hours in fully marked patrol vehicles.

Other security measures have also been stepped up and are on-going.

“Anytime we see a rise in criminal activity, especially violent crime, we react immediately,” said Sheriff David Livingston. “The citizens of Orinda and Lafayette should know we are out in force – some measures will be highly visible like our additional patrol deputies and other measures will be more covert. Our goal remains unchanged, to keep Contra Costa families safe.”

The Sheriff’s Office provides law enforcement and public safety services to both Orinda and Lafayette through contracts.

This comes just one day after a violent home invasion in Lafayette, and just a few weeks after another home invasion in Lafayette and a mass shooting that killed five in Orinda.

Word spreads fast when there’s successful criminal activity,
which inspires copycat activity. An there are large numbers of rich persons who hold positions of power, who reside in those communities who exert very considerable influence in business and politics.

Exactly the above! The residents of Lafayette and Orinda with their money, power and prestige start getting worried and the response by the Sheriffs office/Police is pretty quick and apparent.

When us lowly Martinez residents need help, we can’t really get much help let alone more patrols. Try and apply for a concealed weapon permit and you’ll get laughed out of the office. Less than 10% approval. Why is that? I’ll bet the numbers are higher amongst the rich/powerful crowd though.

Heck, went to dinner in Concord and saw about a dozen cop cars around downtown. Totally felt at risk because all the scum have guns, but the law abiding citizens are denied.

so what’s the high sheriff gonna do about North Richmond? Doesn’t he want to keep those families safe? Sounds a bit racist to me??? Whats a home invasion when a 17 year old kid was murdered in North-Town????

It’s simple. The people of Orinda and Lafayette actually work, pay huge taxes, and support all of the folks on welfare and “disability” in places like Martinez and North Richmond. Racist? Nope. Just reality.
If you don’t like it, go to free junior college, then to free UC, (especially if you’re undocumented) and better yourself instead of crying “racism”. Oh, and while you’re at it, maybe raise your kids to be responsible, respectful and law abiding. Just a thought…

North Richmond received additional patrols on regular basis in response to various incidents. It just was not publicize because it happened so often. The ratio of patrol duties patrolling Norf car exceeds either Lafayette or Orinda. I know, I was there.

It has nothing to do with race, It’s all about wealth and people of power. I don’t care if you are Black, White. Latin or any other race if you have wealth you will be treated differently. Plenty of poor white people living in bad and dangerous areas. Been to Antioch or Pittsburg lately?

Oh No…. Follow the Money!???

The difference between police services in North Richmond and Orinda is pretty simple actually.

North Richmond is unincorporated and gets its police services by taxes.

Orinda on the other hand is an incorporate city and contracts with the Sheriff for police services. Residents of Orinda are paying twice for police services – Once through property taxes just like everyone else in the county and then again through the City’s general fund.

If the Sheriff wants to keep his contract he will made his clients happy. You don’t like the services you are receiving in North Richmond? Move somewhere with a police department.

Good to hear. Hopefully nip this bad activity in bud.

I believe the horse is already out of the barn, guys.

There are violent crimes throughout the entire county. This is all about money, privilege, power. Those two cities have the lowest city sales tax in the county, so think about that for a minute.

Having patrolled all of the above mentioned areas, I can tell you that the budgets of the Sheriff and the contract cities are not high enough to provide this service for very long. And, even if the Sheriff had the money, the recruiting and hiring of new deputies is very difficult given the recent change in the use of force law. I know several individuals who have retired a bit earlier than planned because of this law change…..pointing my finger at Gavin Newsom.

I hope you’ve signed the recall petion. It least it makes a ststement, doubt it will succeed.

Oh, I forgot to mention Moraga…..since they have their own PD, they get no extra coverage……….have fun.

It’s going to take a Republican Governor to restore law and order in California. In the meantime, please sign the official petition to recall Gavin Newsom.

We know this: There are 744 death row inmates who think Gavin is just peachy. However, at least for the moment, they can’t vote.

A recall is a long shot but it’s important to try. If we get it, great. If we don’t, hopefully the effort causes enough of a stir to keep that nimrod out of the White House.

@ Fearless Important we recall him before he gives those 744 a pass complete with the right to vote. If it only creates a national stir to let the rest of the country know his California record it will have accomplished much. But, I’m hoping it goes the full route and he is recalled before he gets the chance to sets the state on the same course he set San Francisco on years ago.
