Concord Police Department Holding DUI Enforcement Operations

Officers from the Concord Police Department will be out on Nov.15 between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

DUI saturation patrols will take place in areas with high frequencies of DUI collisions and/or arrests. In 2017, 1,120 people were killed in alcohol-involved crashes on California roads.

In recent years, California has seen an increase in drug-impaired driving crashes. Concord Police Department reminds drivers that “DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze.” If you take prescription drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label, you might be impaired enough to get a DUI. Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs, and can result in a DUI.

Police encourage drivers to follow these tips to avoid a DUI:

    • Always use a designated sober driver – a friend who is not drinking, ride-share, cab or public transportation – to get home.
    • See someone who is clearly impaired try and drive? Take the keys and help them make other arrangements to find a sober way home.
    • Report drunk drivers – Call 911.
    • Hosting a party? Offer nonalcoholic drinks. Monitor who is drinking and how they are getting home.

Funding for this DUI operation is provided to the Concord Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

DUI?

Take and sell their vehicle, fine them $50,000, have them spend a month in jail.

If they kill someone – they should be tried for Murder – they knew what they were doing when ingesting whatever put them under the influence, and if found guilty spend decades, if not, life in imprison.

I am over impaired drivers injuring and killing innocent people.

If they don’t care about my life – why should I care about the consequences to them for their own actions…

I agree. No tolerance.

How many accidents were caused by someone that was texting while driving impaired? Texting while driving is dangerous, combine that with someone who is under the influence of drugs or booze is worse.

As twice convicted drunk driver, I’m all in on no tolerance, I have learned of all the pain & damages impaired driving causes. I’m embarrassed and ashamed to have put myself in the position to have been part of the problem. I’ve luckily not cause any physical harm to another person, but I’ve heard the horror stories of innocent people being victimized by drunk drivers. Please don’t drink & drive, but if you do, I pray you are apprehended before anyone gets hurt.

Keep up the good work CPD
