The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (ConFire) announced the Oct.27 wildfires in Martinez and Lafayette were caused by power lines.
The following information is from ConFire:
- Pleasant Fire – North Pleasant Hill Rd., Lafayette – Cause: Power Lines
- Pleasant Fire – South Camino Diablo, Lafayette – Cause – Power Lines
- Forest Fire – Forest Way, Martinez – Cause: Power Lines/Transformer

And the sheep believe it… Wake up. Power lines started 600 fires?? Lol no sorry youre lying
Did you even read what was posted? Listed are causes for 3 fires, not 600.
List the 600 locations – Cite your source
&Dork…I only see 3 fires being talked about. Your tinfoil helmet may be a bit too tight.
Get used to the new normal of shutting the power off because PG&E just doesn’t have the money or the manpower to repair/replace power lines or have the lines underground.
How many fires in the past 70 years or so have been started by downed power lines? I wonder. And I wonder what’s really going on…
I’ve never heard of this (power outages, fires caused by electric co) happening in any other state or country. What’s up w California?
We’re one of the only states that uses pg&e THAT’S WHAT’S UP WITH CALIFORNIA
California is a unique environment.
You live here. Your local news is about here.
It’s not strange you have no clue what goes on in other places.
PG&E
@dude
PLEASE ENLIGHTEN US! Where else is this happening? What other state in the country is burning up, as a direct result of mismanaged power lines? Where else in the country are the power companies shutting down power to hundreds of thousands at a time because of fire concerns? Please…..fill us in!
Well said, JazzMan, well said.
If you believe that you’re a moron!
What do you guys think is the cause? The system is old, so of course you will see more fires. What good does it do to blame PG&E if they’re not the cause. The ppl who determine the cause don’t work for them. Two separate entities.
@ Colleen
“The system is old, so of course you will see more fires. What good does it do to blame PG&E if they’re not the cause?”
I don’t know about you, but I’ve been a PG&E customer for decades (more than I care to think about). Over the years, PG&E was authorized, through the PUC, to raise our rates on a yearly basis. What was their reasoning? Increased maintenance costs. However, we now know that those increased costs were not used to update their “old” system at all! Those increased dollars went directly to corporate executives and stock owners. That’s why our current system is “old” and that’s why PG&E should be held responsible. That’s what you call corporate fraud! If PG&E was a single person, they’d be in prison by now (well……maybe not in California – but that’s an issue for a different post!)
Sign “increased maintenance costs “?
I would like to believe that. What’s your source?
Or are you assuming?
Randy
What I’m saying is: Maintenance costs were their justifications for increasing rates. However, they never intended on spending the money for that purpose (and in fact didn’t.)
My sources are my bills and the increase notices that came with them. They notify you of impending rate increases before they actually raise them. The typical reason they gave for the increase was maintenance costs.
Exactly, Sign. Nailed it.
While we all like to attack PG&E and their corporate greed (and rightfully so) for the epidemic of fires in California, there are other groups that should be called to answer as well. Back in the 80’s and 90’s, environmentalists like Earth First, Greenpeace, and the Sierra Club fought against the forest fire mitigation policies that were in place and working. Of course, our politicians (on both sides) drank the Kool-Aid and changed policies.
Back then, while I was working toward my Environmental Sciences degree, scientist were predicting this exact scenario would be the outcome. No one listened then and look what we have today! Of course, the environmentalists are VERY quiet right now!
Fire is a natural (and necessary) occurrence in nature. However, the extent of devastation could have been mitigated.
Then make PG&E paid the damages..
I agree with you “Sign From Above”. PG&E is the easy target, but there has been an ongoing issue with forest management. Drought and beetle infestations have led to hundreds-of-thousands of dead trees. And our state government hasn’t done a thing about it.
Before you say “the forests are managed by the federal government, it’s their fault” they clearly have passed ownership of forest management to the state level. Our state government has known this for some time and still done nothing.
Curious…read more for yourself at:

Here’s hoping PG&E can make some progress, and our government can do the same. Otherwise, time to load up on generators and/or pack your bags.
