“The emergency at the NuStar facility is over,” officials with Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday night following a fire at the facility that burned since early afternoon.
Sheriff’s officials made the announcement on Twitter at 9:38 p.m.
Residents of Rodeo, Hercules and Crockett can safely leave their homes after having to shelter in place for more than seven hours.
Officials with the California Highway Patrol said shortly before 10 p.m. that Interstate Highway 80 reopened between state Highway 4 and Interstate Highway 780 in Vallejo
Traffic was affected even before the evening commute started. The fire started at about 1:50 p.m. at the NuStar Energy facility in the unincorporated Contra Costa County community of Crockett.
Fire is officially out. A team is still on the scene to make sure there is no re-ignition. Investigators and inspectors are on the scene. A Chevron firefighter was injured last night, and was treated. Shelter in place is lifted, Crockett residents are asked to open their windows and air out their homes. Schools in the area are closed just in case something else happens today.
