This vintage postcard shows the old fountain at the Sunvalley Mall in Concord.

The fountain, which was taken out after the deadly plane crash in 1985, was in the middle of the mall, on the lower level, near where the elevator is now located.

Why did they remove it? It came in handy to help people that were burned.

No it didn’t serve any such purpose at the time of the accident. Where are you coming up with this information? Anyone in the mall either fled the explosion and fire, were injured and helped out of the building immediately, or were part of the fatalities. No one was using the fountain to soothe their burns while smoke and debris filled the interior of the mall.

The good all days. Before Sun Valley Mall became totally ghetto.

What’s not shown in that photo was the Orange Julius that was underneath the escalators. Must have been built after this photo was taken.

I was there when the plane hit. Dec 23rd, Christmas eve’s eve. The Mall packed with last minute shoppers having fun. It was like a Godzilla movie with the people running out of the Mall…AND to find some of the exit doors locked. Not good.
