Walnut Creek City Council To Get Update On Police Outreach To Homeless

by CLAYCORD.com
29 comments

The Walnut Creek City Council tonight will hear a report from police about the first few months of the department’s Homeless Outreach Program.

The pilot program began in June with two officers, who work with local governmental and private groups — including the Walnut Creek Homeless Task Force, the Trinity Center, the CORE homeless outreach program and the
Mental Health Evaluation Team — to help meet the needs of the homeless in and around Walnut Creek.

As with almost every Bay Area city, Walnut Creek has experienced an increase in homelessness. A city staff report says that over the past 18 months, Walnut Creek police officers have recorded making contact with more
than 750 different homeless people.

The pilot program’s objectives include building relationships with the homeless, connecting homeless people with services, developing long-term solutions to recurring problems, working with residents and
businesses to address quality-of-life issues related to homelessness, decreasing calls for service and “enforcing laws with a compassionate but firm approach.”

Tonight’s meeting begins at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 1666 N. Main St.

RANDOM TASK October 1, 2019 - 10:12 AM - 10:12 AM

Why is it that the cities are responsible and spending money to deal with this problem that is directly an effect of the politics of this state bringing in illegals and housing them in all the lowincome housing putting citizens on the streets

I mean why is this being allowed by the voters and city officials
Enough is enough or do we have to see high school and college kids living on the streets before anyone blinks or your elderly parents eating cat food and being beat up by bums

Your allowing this …cities are allowing this …

LA already has had to sanitize the streets from hep A
Your breeding filth and diseases for our citizens while the illegals live off of our taxes and programs and housing

Wow the citizens are just stupefied by politicians agendas they will put kids on the streets to house illegals

Unbelievable

Here is a story hard to believe. Oakland emptied a city jail that holds over eight hundred people. With the jail empty they pay eighty four thousand a month to heat it and air condition it. So it doesn’t mold. The city wanted to use it for a homeless shelter but advocates for the homeless said it wasn’t humane. So the idea was scraped. Inside the jail there are rooms, kitchen, laundry, showers, toilets, and large rooms to hang out in. The roof is good so no one gets wet in the coming rains. Not sure who the advocates are but I would rather sleep in a warm dry room with running water and a toilet than a cold wet tent and the street to go potty in.

WC citizen October 1, 2019 - 11:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Walnut Creek invited all the homeless people to their city years ago and the powers that decided on that were told by citizens this would happen
I laugh at the decision of WC city council on their decision to welcome them, now they can’t figure out what to do with them all.

Aunt Barbara October 2, 2019 - 12:24 AM - 12:24 AM

The same City that forgot to regulate GAS Leaf blowers and now we hear them all day everyday and breathe in the gas fumes and particulates, but please call Walnut Creek a GREEN city.
Ignorance is bliss! 🙁

Speaking of the homeless in Walnut Creek, a used vehicle is needed for one of the Trinity Center’s members living outside at the church to provide entry into the program. If you have a vehicle you can donate, please contact Todd McCarl, SPP Program Coordinator, email toddmc@trinitycenterwc.org or by phone 925-895-5243.

The Safe Parking Program will begin on October 7th at St. John Vianney. Your donations will help people living in their vehicles have a safe place to sleep at night. Members will also receive help with completing applications for housing that is affordable, suggestions for short and long-term housing options, counseling on safety-net programs, enrollment in benefit programs, assistance with Homeless Court issues, and ensured access to healthcare.

Please share this and spread the word with your networks and connections!

JJ October 1, 2019 - 12:02 PM - 12:02 PM

Question:
Does anyone know if the homeless in Walnut Creek are ‘illegals’?

WC Resident October 1, 2019 - 3:29 PM - 3:29 PM

All of the homeless I’ve chatted with were born in the USA. Nearly all of them were born and raised in central Contra Costa county. People who are homeless these days have big dreams about their plans at times but also tend to be poor at execution and follow-through.

jon October 1, 2019 - 6:43 PM - 6:43 PM

They are all Caucasians,(like %98 of all homeless,) that hang out under the bridge in WC,and most of them have wealthy families, but they won’t talk to each other out of principle, over something trivial that happened years ago,so they just medicate all day and try to forget. As long as they get a check each month and people give them money at the off ramp they will never change or go away.Caucasians always throw their kids out at a certain point, but you will see multi generations living together in one structure of when it’s families of non European backgrounds.

Atticus Thraxx October 1, 2019 - 7:36 PM - 7:36 PM

Poor at execution and follow through made me laugh. jon I’m not sure what leaps of logic it took for you to reach those conclusions but your post was delightful. And eye opening. I never would have guessed poor inter-family communication skills among the wealthy impacted homelessness so. Great find, not only do we have a board full of climate scientists, we got ourselves a genuine social scientist too. Lucky us! 😂

Jla October 1, 2019 - 7:44 PM - 7:44 PM

Jon,
That is completely ridiculous. You made up all those numbers….

jon October 1, 2019 - 11:08 PM - 11:08 PM

And 2 more proven leftist in the usual denial of reality.Carry on,kids.
You never see colored homeless in cc county.Find 1.They can sit at mommys house till the next generation passes away.AT ,go shove that ID in whiteys face like you posted about.

jon October 1, 2019 - 11:10 PM - 11:10 PM

“All those numbers” wow,1, 2 digit # gave you an overload?
Oh,that’s right…the left….

jon October 2, 2019 - 12:11 AM - 12:11 AM

JJ. think about it,when do you see homeless illegals? They came here for a better life and they pack as many as they can under one roof and everyone pays $100 a month rent. Then they mail the rest home.Have you ever seen someone asking for change,or dumpster diving that didn’t look like they pretty much spoke perfect English?WC resident I think was gently trying to say the same thing that im saying.that in contra costa county it’s mostly people from middle to upper class families raised in good homes that are the homeless you see now. It’s the underpriviledged or illegal immigrants. It’s plain ole ‘Mercans.

Two more points:

1. The Trinity Center Evening Program Overnight Shelter Begins Dec 9th.

Over the past several years, volunteers have helped us keep Trinity Center members safe, dry, and warm in our Evening Program during the cold, wet winters. From December through March, the program provides members with a hot meal at Trinity Center and overnight shelter at the Walnut Creek National Guard Armory.

Volunteers are needed to:

provide and serve hot dinners each night as well as sack breakfasts and lunches for the weekends (*food safety guidelines will be provided*)

shuttle members between Trinity Center and the Armory

assist staff and members at the Armory each night by monitoring the floor.

Lots of assistance is needed to make this program a success.

Contact Pam McGrath to volunteer:
Trinity Center Evening Program Manager
Phone: 925.457.4678

2. Trinity Center is about to Move to St. Paul’s Commons:

Their move to St. Paul’s Commons is planned for December/January. They are anxiously awaiting a firm completion date. Here is a video about the new center, including an interview with a homeless member who is now pimp stepping:

Mutts October 1, 2019 - 1:14 PM - 1:14 PM

Would they pay $400 of my rent so I won’t become homeless?

justifiable languor October 1, 2019 - 4:06 PM - 4:06 PM

I agree!

FPN October 1, 2019 - 3:46 PM - 3:46 PM

California is a sanctuary state with open boarders. I believe California’s illegal population and homeless population, are the highest of all the states.

SF oh October 1, 2019 - 4:16 PM - 4:16 PM

I spent last weekend in San Francisco. My daughter was visiting from out of State. The first words she said when we met at Union Square were, “This city is filthy. The homeless run this place.” That day, she had been harassed by a homeless guy who kept getting close and rapping about her while she was trying to get out of a Starbucks. That night we went out, then had to walk from Powell St Bart back to Union Square at around 10:00 pm. It was like being in the Thriller video — drugged out, filthy zombies everywhere. San Francisco is shot to hell and there’s no turning it around now. I just hope other cities learn from the mistakes SF made. Please stop this problem now! Stop enabling them!

The Fearless Spectator October 1, 2019 - 10:12 PM - 10:12 PM

“Just like the Thriller video”, such a perfect analogy. I used to park at the 5th street garage to attend events at the Moscone Center. Same thing, Thriller zombies everywhere. San Francisco is a pit, and I no longer go there.

Sawyer October 1, 2019 - 4:38 PM - 4:38 PM

If you want to help donate to charities, churches, non-profits, that help the homeless. DO NOT GIVE TO PANHANDLERS. I know it makes you fell like you’re a wonderful person but you’re actually part of the problem and making things worse. You are not helping anyone. They won’t get the help they need that is more then available if you support their lifestyle.

SF oh October 2, 2019 - 9:19 AM - 9:19 AM

You are exactly right! I saw a report on channel 7 news about people handing out cash to homeless (I’m 90% sure it was in Walnut Creek, too). Anyway, the reporter asked the deadbeats panhandling on corners how much money they usually collect. They said they usually get about $40 PER HOUR on any given day and about $80 PER HOUR during the holidays. Since they’re getting free food etc thru the shelter programs, what do you think they’re using that money for? Stop enabling them!!

FPN October 1, 2019 - 7:24 PM - 7:24 PM

Goverment just put out info. reguarding illegals and homelessness population. Does not match what Jon and WC are suggesting.

JJ October 2, 2019 - 5:59 AM - 5:59 AM

My question was Walnut Creek statistics. I wonder if anyone in the city has crunched those numbers.

I used to volunteer at a thrift store downtown years ago. So yes, I do know from eyewitness.

RANDOM TASK October 1, 2019 - 10:17 PM - 10:17 PM

OMG HELP
you are joking right
help what
the state don’t care why should we
they tax us to help the homeless and bums

a large portion of actual homeless are that way because there are 12 million illegals taking up their housing and on our dime as well as our schools funding
the state houses them in low income housing all over the state well at least in districts they need some more homeless

the voters created this mess let them wallow in it
you wanted illegals now they are here taking up the housing from actual citizens ….
great job you sent your neighbor to the street in favor of a system sucking illegal…
you should be proud and tell the homeless to bad we prefer the illegals over citizens ….that’s what you are doing be proud like the politicians
who beacon oh the homeless we have to help when they are trying to get more illegals into the state and into low income housing
even the citizens are ranting for more low income housing so more illegals can live there …lol
a joke and your doing it …..voting for it and then asking uuuhh why is this happening ….actually not just voting but allowing school funding to be used for housing illegals

stop begging for money when you created the problem

give here give there we are taxed for it already

jon October 1, 2019 - 11:22 PM - 11:22 PM

The few that hang out on Calif. St under the bridge by Pinkys pizza(when it was there) are older, well educated Caucasian males, come from a good family that can go home anytime, but never will. When they are gone it’s because they got their inheiritence. It’s been the same few guys for years. They have very good IQ,but a terrible attitude, and substance abuse problems.I worked at Kaiser Shell station for years, and know them all.One doesn’t need to be a social scientist when you hear it from the horses mouth,Mr Ed.That crowd stays in WC because they like WC,and their older well to do parents still live their.
AT I understand that when you don’t understand something you then belittle it.

Jeff October 2, 2019 - 8:14 AM - 8:14 AM

At this point, we have to stop giving to the charities as well as the homeless themselves…..all involved have become enablers. Very few positive results from all of the programs, including our own local Trinity Church.

Bill Cutting October 2, 2019 - 10:52 AM - 10:52 AM

Maybe there’s a sheriff with some balls that could deputize some citizens to start rounding up the illegals random? Or maybe just maybe Trump will pay us $1000 a head for bounty on illegals! I think that would solve the problem overnight I know I would go down to Monument Boulevard with Some friends if I could legally get paid $1000 anillegal from the government as long as I got certified or something to make it more legit to clean up this mess caused by liberals and radical leftists and self hating whites.

JJ October 2, 2019 - 12:01 PM - 12:01 PM

For the record, Jon and WC Resident are right.
Sadly, some are even in their twenties from local high schools.

S October 2, 2019 - 12:17 PM - 12:17 PM

And… according to the U.S. Department of Education (2016-17) there are over 1 Million K-12 Students reported as Homeless, with over 200 Thousand in CA lone….
