Two Stockton women have been arrested in connection with the theft of a wallet from an elderly woman earlier this month in Walnut Creek, according to the Walnut Creek Police Department.
Last week, we posted a video of a suspect stealing a wallet out of an elderly woman’s purse while another stood close-by at the Safeway in the Rossmoor community of Walnut Creek.
After the theft, fraudulent credit card charges were attempted at a nearby store, police said.
As a result of the investigation, both suspects were identified.
On September 20, Walnut Creek Police with the assistance from the Stockton Police Department and the San Joaquin County Probation Department located and arrested 22-year-old Markkisha Anthnisha Mangum 22-year-old and Martavia Latrice Blount in Stockton.
Mangum was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail for the charges of felony Identity theft with prior conviction, Financial Elder Abuse, Credit Card Fraud, Possession of Stolen Property and Conspiracy. Mangum’s bail was set at $82,500. Mangum posted bail and was released on Sept.21.
Blount was booked the San Joaquin County Jail for the charges of Identity theft, Financial Elder Abuse, Credit Card Fraud, Possession of Stolen Property and Conspiracy. Blount’s bail was set at $22,500.
Blount was also booked on an outstanding warrant for Robbery with a bail of $25,000, according to Walnut Creek Police.

Stockton gives 100 of its residents a stipend, called a universal basic income UNI, of $500 per month. This as an social experiment to provide the poor a cushion, and guarantee that their income does not fall below an “income floor.” Either these two didn’t qualify for the $500, or it wasn’t enough to suit their fancy.

This is good news. Throw the book at these two. POS is an understatement. They look a lot older than 22. I’m not surprised they have prior convictions and outstanding warrants for robbery. She probably bailed out on stolen money.

Some can’t be reformed! One of these peeps has a prior conviction of identity theft. Bail is Very Low for financial elder abuse. I sure hope there is actual prosecution and prison time. They appear quite experienced.
@Nokeem – Re: bail, I am very disappointed at the low amount of bail for these 2 perps. Priors, an outstanding warrant for robbery, and the new charges including Elder Financial Abuse. In my opinion, the EFA charge alone should warrant a much higher bail then was set.
These gals will probably be right loose with no jail time. Our Contra Costs district attorney is part of the supposed ‘social justice’ movement, which means if your of color you’re let loose right away and not punished. This is in an effort to try to make up a perceived wrongdoing in the past.

Several times I have seen seniors shopping at our local Safeway and notice them with their backs turned away from their purses or them being a few feet away from their cart. I always warn them to be careful because people will steal their purse when they aren’t looking. Most don’t even know it happens and appreciate the warning. I usually show them how to lock the baby seat belt around the handles of their purse. We should all help our seniors by watching out for them.
Anon – That’s because old habits die hard. We seniors have lived much of our lives not having to worry about little things like locking our houses and cars. Parents taught their kids the difference between right and wrong (if it doesn’t belong to you, don’t touch it).

Hey, these two look familiar…one of them looks like the thief who was caught on tape trying to steal a purse at the local WC restaurant a few years back. Or maybe they are related.
In any case, these two wont get more than 90 days of jail time and community service work. Which means they will be back on the streets looking for loot in your Concord/WC/Tracy/Livermore/Pleasanton/San Ramon areas.
