New Law Could Save BART $415,000 To $1.2 Million Per Year

BART claims a new bill could save them $415,000 to $1.2-million per year.

AB 923 grants BART unrestricted access to California’s wholesale energy markets, as well as broader access to more diverse sources of greenhouse gas (GHG)-free energy.

“As one of Northern California’s largest end users of energy, it’s our responsibility at BART to be leaders in the use of environmentally-responsible electricity,” said BART Board President Bevan Dufty.

Unrestricted access to wholesale electric markets will allow BART to balance its intermittent renewable generation from solar, wind and small hydroelectric resources reliably and economically, consistent with the operations of other wholesale market participants.

I’m not convinced this will save money, PG&E still transports, and Green Energy is more expensive, I hope this is not a another feel good move that Riders will pay for , BARTs track record for physical responsibility is not good

Do you have a source that Green Energy is more expensive than fossil fuels? According to Forbes, renewable energy is able to compete or in some cases is even cheaper than fossil fuel.

there is a reason why coal factories are dying and closing down. They are expensive and will be unable to compete with cleaner sources of energy.

So, let’s say that you are right, this doesn’t really save BART any money. Let’s say, at worst, they end up paying the same. It’s still better for the environment to turn to renewables and ditch the polluters, that is a win for Californians.

As always, BART tries to tap into something that makes them less responsible. Why didn’t they look at sustainability years, no, decades ago? Because their $350.00 suits were too busy finding budget dollars elsewhere. How do I know? I Heard the suits discuss it while they were riding BART free of charge.

A spec of dust compared the $250,000,000 they just spent on their new headquarters!!!!!!!!!!!

What a sad joke. Government inefficiency at its finest.
