The women in the video below worked in tandem to steal a wallet from an elderly woman’s purse inside a Safeway in Walnut Creek, according to the Walnut Creek Police Department.

by poor unfortunates, are you referring to elderly people on fixed incomes who WORKED their entire lives??? i understand about poverty and the racial income divide, but DON’T ASSUME you know anything about these people. they could have chosen a less voulneroinke target, at the very least.
I think he was being sarcastic, and the “poor unfortunates” are the two women stealing. We all know how elderly women struggle to survive, particularly if they have been widowed. You can tell she’s necessarily frugal by the close examination she’s giving her purchases, especially the meat. The two sized her up and took complete advantage of her being so engrossed in her task that she was unaware of what was going on around her. I call it a racial hate crime as well as elder abuse, since the victim is white. They are no better than lice.

There should be some alert system to stop such theft! The security camera in this case is USELESS! Those cameras should be installed at much lower level where a face can be seen. There are security cameras so tiny that they are undetectable. Safeway and other supermarkets should be on-the-ball and install those. There is no way you can tell what that woman looks like only that she’s BLACK!
When I was in scjpp;and worked part time in retail, there were security people walking around who looked like regular shoppers. We knew who they were and they monitored the aisles carrying packages kept a sharp eye on shoplifters.

I was at the Denkinger &Treat Safeway around 10:30am 9/11/19 when two guys got in an altercation in the checkout line. One guy pulled out a knife and stabbed the other guy!

Part of their punishment should be that they have to stand in front of the store, each holding a sign that says something like: I’m a rotten person who stole a wallet from an elderly lady in this store.
What people in this neighborhood think is irrelevant to them. Back in their hood everyone gave them a high five.

That’s utterly barbaric, and if you did so, it would mean she would be disabled and we would have to support her the rest of her life. Make her suffer at a mind-numbing, body-racked-with-pain desk job eight hours a day, five days a week, fifty-two weeks a year, the rest of her life, like the rest of us, until she has paid the poor old woman back. She might learn to enjoy having money she didn’t steal, and all the things it can buy.

That looks like the same height and build as the woman who was stealing wallets from purses hung on the back of chairs, and on the floor, in a Walnut Creek restaurant a couple of years ago. She had an unusual and distinctive hair style which may explain why her head is covered with her hoodie. Different accomplice though. Despicable behavior. Bet her mom’s sure proud of her baby. Grew up to be a pickpocket.

SOOOO Safeway is so EMPTY these two could stalk and elderly woman for about 5 minutes and hover over her for a lengthy period of time and NOT notice?? Time to step up security in these stores. Its out of control. Parking lots and isles, it ALL SHOULD BE SAFE FOR ELDERLY PEOPLE!!

Sadly I see soooo many women, young and old, who walk away from or turn their backs on open purses/carts in Safeway in all the time.
I see that much too frequently also, women turning and walking several steps away leaving handbag in cart. Open or closed it creeps me out. I tell some of them nicely that they may have forgotten to keep their purse with them.
I do, too. One should probably keep one’s purse firmly in hand or on one’s shoulder at all times, regardless of how inconvenient it might be for shopping. Cross body, if you need both hands free. Used to be mandatory in SF, Oakland, and Berkeley. Guess it must become a habit out here, now, too.
Their mothers probably taught them how to steal.
I hope they catch them soon, but sadly in this ridiculous state I’m sure it’s barely a crime and nothing will happen so they will keep doing it
Employees are not ALLOWED to stop shoplifters. They will get fired for it. It’s sad and disgusting but that is where we live now and those who will steal know it. Makes me so mad.
How distraught she must have been when she got to the checkout stand and her wallet was missing!!! God this pisses me off so much.
Maybe if one sees someone with their purse in the cart, and they are not very attentive (I notice she walks away from her cart and purse at one point), they might mention to her that there are pickpockets operating in the area stealing from purses left unattended or not closely watched.
