An officer found a burglary suspect walking around downtown Concord with a samurai sword Tuesday, police said.

Sometime Tuesday afternoon, the staff at a non-profit organization in Concord reported a burglary, and investigators found that surveillance cameras caught the suspect forcing entry into the building overnight.

Police say he stole some items and fled the scene.

Later that day, the same officer was called out to investigate reports of a man with a sword. Officer Wilkens responded to the area and recognized the man as the suspect from the burglary.

When searched, police found stolen property. They booked him into jail and returned the property to the owner. The suspect’s name has not been released.

That’s called a Katana and using one without being Japanese is cultural appropriation.

Define “using one” please.

I still wonder what the definition of is is…

Cultural appropriation is just a nitwit term invented by the grievance industry. We used to a “melting pot” and a “rich mosaic”, and it used to be a good thing, something that made America great. Used to be a no-brainer that everyone got to pick and choose the best parts of different cultures and together we made a new culture, the American culture. Now I guess my pale-faced self is supposed to be offended when my darker brethren put up a Christmas tree or eat a Danish without genuflecting and asking permission from my “community”? Ridiculous.

Okay this case is different but in general (in your opinion), is owning or using a weapon from marginalized culture different from one’s own always cultural appropriation? Is practicing martial arts from a culture different than one’s own cultural appropriation? This is hardly that, to me. It’s offensive to steal and misuse such an important cultural item, but to equate one who isn’t Japanese with cultural appropriation just for using a Katana, I don’t agree with (if the use is studied, accurate, and respectful).

Sarchasm: the deep abyss between those able to detect sarcasm and those who are unable.

Just preparing for the zombie apocalypse.

Was he at least Japanese?

Zombies! Oh no! So much walking involved.

Just another day in the hood…………..

Cool, now let’s spend $41,000 making a silly video of that cop wielding it around since we have such a cute little department.

ALL UNDER 5 FEET? wtf

Oooh he could arrest me any day ….

Probably had a kick me sign proudly displayed

Carefull ,,,In 1970 a Police Officer at the UC Santa Barbra Riots got in trouble for carrying a Ball and Chain Mace!…the Kids also burned down the Bank of America Branch.

And I know the person that escorted the student off the roof of the Bof A branch 🙂

Look at that cutie. I’d commit some grand larceny for him.

Thank you, Concord PD

Lonely felon…you and I both.

Interesting juxaposition of the Officer and the sign directly above his head. Subliminal advertising? A coincidence? Posed that way intentionally?

Gittyup: hilarious! Good observation. He doesn’t need a sign to advertise himself though…ha ha

@NinjaNurse Nope, but the pose with a massive Samurai sword doesn’t hurt! Lol

Did you notice the Wiener too?

@Jellyfinger LOL. No, but now that you point it out … The whole thing is a remarkable study in symbolism. He better put a copy of that photo in his photo album! If they didn’t set it all up, what are the chances of that randomly happening … HaHa Ha Ha Ha

Poor guy was probably just getting ready to audition for the next Kill Bill movie.

Nice work CPD……………..108RS

Sounds like a whole bunch of Belushi to me!

Samurai Hot Dog Vendor – the unused sketch

The sword might be worth something if it has Randy Jackson’s signature on it…

I see what you did there. Well played.

It’s gettin it’s gettin it’s gettin kind of methy.

Great, they locked up a teenage mutant ninja turtle, someone call Splinter!
