Does anyone have Cable anymore? I thought nearly everyone had switched over to streaming.
Yes! I have given it up before due to ridiculous prices. I survived a few years without cable tv, but did miss the comedy channel. Many years later, Direct TV is beyond ridiculous in both price and content. I may give it the boot.
The only thing on the Comedy Channel worth watching is South Park and all those episodes are available free online.
Yes Future…AT&T completely ruined Directv. I may give them the boot too.

I won’t miss much since Netflix and Hulu provides almost everything.
Haven’t had cable TV in about 10 years now and don’t miss it one bit. I do just fine with the major streaming services (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon) and using torrents for anything I can’t find on them.
I would not give up cable TV as I would miss the news station and the stock market stations on WAVE Broadband. And, if I give up cable TV then I probably not be subscribing to internet access.
Five conglomerates own all the cable fake news stations and use the stock show to manipulate us into parting with our money playing vs trading AIs that see and react to data before it is even shown to people.
We have just done that.No more cable tv or landline phone.We bought two smart televisions which will pay for themselves in nine months.Cell phones now take the place of the landline.Now have You Tube tv and I put up an outdoor hd antenna for over the air tv. Couldn’t be happier.Kiss my a– Wave.Saving $1,428.00 dollars a year.

Impractical Jokers is one of the few shows worth watching. As I mentioned in another post, I haven’t had cable (at my house) in many years. My g/f still has it and won’t get rid of it because I watch it, yet I’m fine with her getting rid of it. I’ve had this conversation with her many times.
Almost one year without cable – love YouTube TV, it’s less than half the cost with a lot more sports channels that my husband loves.
It was funny when I called Comcast to cancel – the representative said, “Okay, I understand.” Didn’t even try to talk me into keeping Comcast. I must have sounded fairly convincing with my reasoning. 🙂
Fired Comcast years ago after it kept raising “broadcast” and “local sports” fees. Also charges rental fees. Comcast should be honest when the state an advertised price.
Comcast is so yesterday as far as TV broadcast.
Ditched cable about 7 years ago and couldn’t be happier. Now you can even get live streaming sports, which is what I missed most after cutting cable back in the day.
I’d love to give up Comcast Xfinity but is there another way to watch my bay area sports teams year ‘round?
YouTube TV has *every* sports channel you’ve ever heard of and more. When we signed up it was only $40 per month vs. $110 we were paying for Comcast. Try YouTube TV – you’ll never look back.
TV has gone the way of the newspaper, the land line and the beeper. Total garbage, and Journalists are teleprompter readers who do NO journalism.
Gave up cable about 15 years ago. Missed it at first. Now with cell phones and tablets, I can watch just about anything I want.
Cut the cord several months ago, saving a ton of money, not missing a thing. Plenty of content on YouTube and Amazon Prime.
Given the antics going on with AT&T & Direct TV I’m seriously thinking about it. They charge a ridiculous amount and block channels indefinately.
Dropped it first thing this year. YoutubeTV via Roku, works great.

Gave up cable several years ago. Miss just vegging out with the remote in hand and watching mindless, meaningless network tv, a multitude of foreign language channels, and shopping channels which were “included” at no extra charge with my subscription. Roku requires that I watch what I actually want to see which requires some work. Still, there is plenty available.
I still laugh when I remember my neighbor running down our street hollering “Astound is coming!!! Astound is coming!!!”
I wanted to cancel ESPN but my provider said it’s a package deal.
I need to give my cable up – it’s far too expensive, but should I keep them for internet service? I’m not highly technical but assume I need internet for my t.v. for Netflix, etc. Please talk to me, techies!!

I’m certainly no expert, but Roku connects wirelessly to your WiFi Router. You need cables to connect the Roku to the tv unless you have a tv that also connects wirelessly to your WiFi Router. My tv is old, and it is connected to Roku with cables. You might only need a dongle (Chromecast) plugged into your tv to get their stuff. It also works over your WiFi Router. My tv is too old to use Chromecast, I tried it. I asked at Best Buy and they told me what I needed. Anybody?
You still need internet access if you wish to stream programming from Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, Sling etc. That is how they are transmitted.
I tried a Roku box once, we sure did miss the on screen menu.
Yes, Roku seems to take a lot of paging and searching through what is available. It is very different from a menu or just flipping channels until you find what you want to watch. The do have a great selection of home- (and UK castle-) improvement shows, so when I found a category of interest, I can pretty much stay there until I’ve seen it all — months, so far. I also watch a lot less television with it and get more done.

Amazon prime, Netflix and Hulu. Don’t miss cable at all and it’s less

Gave it up two years ago. Too expensive, too toxic.
Cut the cable in 2013 when Comcast started encrypting Basic channels. That was so they didn’t need to roll out a truck to set a connector on the pole depending on a new customer or someone dropping the service. But for me that meant that if there were two shows I wanted to record with the DVR and I wanted a third show if it was on Basic I could record it via computer but encryption ended that.
The term for “live TV” is “appointment TV” and of course with streaming you can watch the shows any time your want and don’t need to record them with a DVR. I pay a little extra on Hulu to get rid of commercials and it’s a time saver too. All my other subscriptions don’t have ads to begin with. I’m a horror fan so I subscribe to Shudder which AMC runs. Remember Joe Bob Briggs? He is now doing a show for Shudder.
I also have a 4K TV. It’s actually hard these days unless you are buying just a 32″ TV to not buy a 4K TV. Stuff looks very nice in 4K. 😉

I dropped cable about 6 months ago…miss the rate hikes and endless commercials, however I’m making due. Downside; easy to end up binge-watching.
If I had half of the money we’ve paid out to Comcast invested instead, we’d be doing really well! We’re still with them for the Spanish language stuff. Every time the contract is up we have to lose something to keep the price from jumping a tier or two. Grrrrrrrr
I hate Comcast due to their poor/lack-of service. I switched to DirecTV about 8 years ago and have been very happy with it. We don’t have fiber in our neighborhood so my internet connection isn’t fast enough for streaming and I refuse to go back to Comcast. I’m staying with DirecTV for now.
YES. I have dropped cable. I did keep the internet, I stream hulu live with HBO / netflix / amazon video. never going back.
hulu with live TV / no commercials / $50 check it out on internet lots of channels & content you can binge watch. If you add HBO another $15 so $65 with HBO … you can get it for a month and binge watch GOT or whatever then turn it off.

amazon prime video is part of amazon cost $120 per year.
I gladly gave up the commercial Fest years ago for something called YouTube where I can search and watch a programs and documentaries and videos about what I am interested in. I don’t need your water down G rated movies or your constant ads for drugs that are meant to cause disease within the human body or so me a vehicle that’s just going to break down in a few years. AT & T for Internet and Landline (various reasons I keep it). Total is approximate $80 per month.
I think a majority of people have already given up. We have. We use Netflix, Amazon and Hulu. Lots of options in all three.
I just canceled Hulu. They keep adding to their list of devices that no longer work with Hulu, including my three-year old LG television.
I believe that giving up cable service also means avoiding all broadcast medial.
I have found that reading, music, and hobbies are much more valuable entertainment than just about anything broadcast.
I know, I’m a nut.
But I’m happier without cable and TV shows.
Proposition 15 was overturned as unconstitutional. But if you can receive TV signals you can still watch with an antenna. But the hills and valleys in this area block many TV signals. Gold mine for cable and satellite.
There are also free ad supported TV channels to watch streaming such as Pluto TV which works like a cable TV provider and the on demand ones like Tubi TV which is second only to Netflix in content, Crackle (run by Sony), VUDU (owned by Walmart) has ad sponsored movies and TV shows along with paid stuff. There are many others but the ones I mention tend to moderate how many ads they play in a break to keep from driving viewers away.
Already have! With Netflix/Hulu, I can skip the brain rotting bs like the Kardashian’s and Bachelor and watch something of quality that is well made and interesting.

Gave it up a decade ago. Waited forever for alternatives to cable/satellite. Remember the “media center PC” ? I’ve hooked up all sorts of computers to my TV over the years. Now, we watch Netflix and Amazon content. That’s all, but that’s enough.
My HOA has cable included so I only pay $20.00 per month xtra stuff. I am happy with Comcast. I love the cooking shows, Antique Roadshow, KRON 4, Nature Show etc.! There are mindless programs too. I get free movies also.
If I had to give up Cable I would be a better person I guess. Oh well…
