QUESTION: Do you think the media is reckless and do you think they purposely inflame situations before they know all the facts?

Talk about it….

The media is owned by the deep state. We have reached a point that there is no longer journalism on the idiot box. If you want truth, you have to seek it out, and it’s becoming more and more difficult to find reliable resources.

I would label the media mercenary. Sensationalism sells. My favourite expose’ is the roll call of every pundit spouting the trendy language. After ten or so it becomes clownish. Fun.

I like CSPAN and live feeds from around the world. Clips of Board Meetings, especially of irate parents confronting educational curriculum. Project Veritas before James O’Keefe was rudely “excused”.

Duh. It’s not rocket science to see that the media is shady and only sticks to what they want to report. Why do you think they want to ban TikTok. TikTok is where you get the real news.

I’m not an expert on Tik Tok, often when I go on utube something from Tik Tok pops up, usually something with animals, I know there’s a lot of different subjects on Tik Tok, some might be real news, but I don’t think that is the norm. I listen to Dave Ramsey, I like his financial advise, he has mentioned how some on Tik Tok ridicule his advise. You might not agree with everything he says, but he certainly have some common sense advise that cannot be disputed. Live on less than you make, don’t rack up credit, save for a rainy day and retirement. Having said that I’m not for banning it, but don’t believe everything you read on the internet.

I agree. Tic Toc is very informative.

For the most part, yes, over half the time.
In some cases, there are people in the media who voice their opinion and not the truth or correct facts.
Or some just don’t want to let the cat out of the bag and should be.
So much has gone haywire for way too many years.

I don’t trust any of them to tell the true story except for Fox Cable News. I also watch channel 2 news at ten and they are so biased they leave out half the story they don’t like. I haven’t watched news on the alphabet channels for decades. I do see clippets so I know they are still at it. Tucker Carlson is the top rated opinion and news program on cable channels by far. If you really want to know what is going on in the world and country Tucker is the best. There is one thing I like on CNN and that is in their need to avoid bad news for democrats they cover some other stories not that important but interesting.

The network being sued for 1.6 billion dollars for lying on the air is the one network you trust?

They all admitted it behind closed doors, it’s going to court.

Your source is the media, so it must be true, right?

Sworn testimony and tweets between their top people all the way up to Murdoch admitted how Fox spread the big lie in order to keep their viewers happy. They knew Trump lost. Tucker even tweeted how much he hates Trump.

i doubt Fox covered the story much so expand your horizons. ,

Since you never watch Fox how do you know Tucker hates Trump..You saw the tweet did you? Trump got 10 million more votes the second time but demented Joe got more votes by far than Obama did and you think it was a fair election. Lets see the FBI, CIA, and every news station in the country hid Joe Biden’s China and Ukraine connections from voters. Fifty one government and ex government officials said the laptop was Russian disinformation even though the FBI had the laptop for months. Sure it was a fair election and Republicans had no right to be ticked off. Get real. In a couple of weeks gas will go over $6 a gallon. When that happens eggs will be $12 a dozen. Everything else will be more and you can thank the guy you elected. By the time Biden is out of office you can get rid of your wallet and use a shopping bag for your money.

The big lie? What’s your proof? You must have lots, because you keep stating the same thing. Here’s your chance to present it. Or, is it that you believe whatever you hear and are told to believe?
To me, there’s far too many holes and opportunities for fraud in the voting process, to consider it to be totally legitimate. That’s all.

7

But Trump did not lose. DOUBLE check your facts.

Ownership of large media is far to concentrated in hands large companies.
Truth to many doesn’t matter, it’s furtherance of a predetermined liberal agenda.

Absolutely. Why is it so hard to find a report on a story without any spin? When was the last time any of us were presented with the facts and left to draw our own conclusions? Watching Fox all day is no better than watching CNN all day. They simply paint the story whichever color they feel their audience needs to see. If that isn’t reckless (or sometimes downright irresponsible and dangerous), I don’t know what is.

14
2

I guess you have to learn spin from provable. If you want spin listen to CNN, MSNBC and the alphabet channels and listen to every broadcaster and commentator use exactly the same democrat talking point. They have it down pat and use it for at least two days. They are like parrots. You do not hear Republican talking talking points on Fox.

In my opinion, the national media is not just reckless but dishonest, untrustworthy, frequently wrong even intentionally, greedy, and there is a long list of other such descriptions. Journalism of who what where when why has given way to constant creation of political narratives. CNN’s revenue is directly tied to negative narrations about Trump. The self-proclaimed conservative media is not better. We get lied to by both sides, and there is money and/or self-interest in it for both. They found the intersection of political agenda money, consumers entertained by outrageous narratives, and lack of ethics. I blame most of the 2020 BLM riots, vandalism, deaths, and destruction on their inflaming viewers all over the country for ratings.

Reckless and extremely biased. That includes both sides, the Left and the Right. This is why I like C-SPAN. They televise uncensored, and unfiltered national and world news, and coverage of political and policymaking events. I can watch congressional hearings, and other national and worldwide events without having to listen to Democrat or Republican pundits who pretend to be giving expert opinions.
The media, especially talk shows, have a big influence on how people think and vote. People tend to believe everything they hear as fact without ever researching it to find the truth. I see it here everyday on this site, commenters are repeating what they heard on a talk show, or what they read on a Left or Right news site.

I enjoy the callers from radio stations. The concern of our fellow citizens is refreshing. Dennis Prager is my current fav. His happiness hour is at 10 am on Fridays. He also has a male female hour on Wednesday where he poses a question and discussion.

*has popcorn ready to munch as the comments come in* These complaints about the media are entertaining for me. While just this past Sunday a network news show, that wasn’t part of Faux News, is accused (by those pesky libs) of taking it easy on Marjorie Taylor Green. And how terrible is 60-Minutes for even having interviewed a future Vice-Presidential candidate at all? But you go on with your deep state nonsense.

You remind me of the Monty Python dead parrot sketch.

Define ‘Media’.

absolutely! they read what-ever is on their teleprompter/computer screen. by the looks on their faces. they appear to be shocked and sometimes stutter in disbelief as to what just came out of their mouths.

Reckless? No. They are laser focused on biased messaging created to mislead the public.

“The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it’s profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theatre.” Frank Zappa

It’s pretty clear where we are in this cycle, and the media’s part is central.

.
Today’s media is highly manipulative thru the stories they choose to cover, the words they use, the words they omit, and are ALWAYS attempting to appeal to their audience’s emotions rather than their presumed intellect.
.
If the general public were able to separate personality from policy, President Trump would still be POTUS instead of the brainless dolt currently holding the office.

YES they should be held accountable too

I like how the media seems to want to tell people what to think over just providing information. One person on CNN, when talking about COVID, says trump has blood on his hands over the situation. Did I ask for their opinion? NO. Can’t stand any of them as they are all leaning one way or the other.

9
2

100% yes ….. they report only what gets them the most favorable views or responses (think lib Bay Area – reports more progressive stories) ….reports on activities counter to Newsom, Becton, Bonta – doesn’t quite make it to the reporting, from numerable personal experiences with 3 TV stations, 3 main stram newspapers, and 1 well known radio station. It’s always “under review”.. then never happens… I have details if somebody wants to know more….

As long as I can remember the saying regarding news of any source is “blood sells.” Murder, mayhem, any disaster, and famous people, regardless of what makes them famous, sell the news. If you are lucky they will toss a good deeds story but you have to hunt for it.

If it bleeds, it leads. Facts be damned.

Most media sources can be reckless at times except for Claycord of course. Follow the money and the slant or bias will become apparent. I stop watching or reading when I see or hear terms like expert or unidentified sources or a whistle blower that wishes to remain anonymous. All media tricks used to spin the story however they want with no way to prove or disprove the information. The media is a very powerful source that can manipulate elections and control populations and they should be held accountable for their malfeasance when appropriate.

5
4

Not sure reckless is a term I would use. Diabolical? Yes. Corrupt? Yes. The media are completely aligned with the leftists, statists and elites, and they hold the average citizen in contempt. The level of dishonesty is off the charts.

6

Depends on what you define as media. The right thinks that CNN, MSNBC, others are very biased towards the left. They also complain the all the news is slanted to the left. However, talk radio is mostly right as is Fox, as well as Newsmax. Since KGO folded there’s no left wing or even middle of the road talk radio in this area. News being slanted either left or right is not the same as reckless. Reckless is what Sean Hannity did when he kept talking about the murder of Seth Rich (I think that is the right name) trying to implicate the Clinton’s. He was eventually sued by the parents of Rich. I’m sure there are other instances of recklessnes from both the right or left. Spreading lies, conspiracies theories that can hurt others is reckless.

1
2

The media is corrupt, untruthful, politicized, and bought out.
The media also is a tool to manipulate and control the dim ones who believe everything they are told.

No one source is unbiased, but by reading the New York Times, checking out the Fox news site, and reading a bunch of local newspapers which are neither left or right-biased, and by having friends in all areas of the political spectrum, I have a pretty good idea what’s what. Of course being a cynical old fart, I also have a pretty good B.S. detector.

And if it comes out of the mouth of a politician, it is probably a lie. The ONLY thing any politician (e.g. Biden, Kamala Harris, DeSantis, Trump, MTG, and AOC) cares about is getting re-elected and retaining power. They need money to do that. If you don’t have it they don’t care about you. Don’t get snookered by the Democrats, but also don’t get snookered by the Republicans. Unless you’re rich, of course, and then it really doesn’t matter where you get your news or who is running the country. You’re rich.

Watch Newsmax instead of Fox. Listen to the radio.

None can be trusted much. I followed the newsmax website one night they were convinced a coup was taking place in China. Talked about columns of military trucks headed for the capital and such.

Watching Newsmax and only listening to right wing talk radio will give you a very slanted view of everything that is going on. One of my best friends (who since have passed away) since the mid eighties, was as right wing as they come, loved Rush Limbaugh. However, one time when I visited him he had NPR on, I was surprised mentioning if that wasen’t too left wing for him, his answer, they are pretty factual, and I like hearing news from different sources. He also subscribed to “The Economist”, he liked their coverage of international issues, he did mentioned they leaned left. Then I talked to my girl friend in New York, she is Bernie supporter, she said she would not read “The Economist” because they were so right wing!! At least my friend here in Concord was open minded enough to tolerate different viewpoints. The fact that we didn’t agree on politics never interferred with our long friendship. Then my girlfriend in New York listenens to Tucker Carlson, we cannot discuss politics, because she is so close minded, and likes to blame the US for many of the worlds ills.

And unfortunately, if you don’t fully trust any particular news source, many times you cannot just take the average of several and assume that is correct. If one car mechanic says your car won’t start because the timing chain is broken, while another mechanic says it is out of gasoline, there is no average of those two to get the car running.
