Here are a few pictures of the old mall, featuring Montgomery Ward.

This mall was located where Kohl’s, Dick’s, etc. is now located, and of course, it’s the old home of the now demolished Dome theater in the City of Pleasant Hill.

Here are a few pictures of the mall (courtesy of groceteria.com).

Anybody remember the stores that used to be in the mall? Leatherby’s, the Christian Book Store? Thrifty? Also, who remembers the art/craft/jewelry sale that used to fill the inside of the mall during Christmastime?

Thanks again to groceteria.com for the pictures. Visit their site for many more photos from all around the United States!

I spent a great deal of time there going to Fenton’s and then the movie theater. I miss it.

The shopping center was always older than others; however, the stores there were great – the Dome Theatre, the Religious Store, Montgomery Wards, Fenton’s, a fabric store etc. There was always a nice Christmas faire in the middle of the center. Classes were offered on the top floor of Montgomery Wards (miss manners, etc).

There was also a big dollar store there too with a lot of stuff.

I also forgot about “the Sawmill” furniture store – wasn’t that located there also?

Yes! Sawmill was there – located where DSW is now. It was Mayfair Market in the early 70s. Then I think Farmers Market. It was also a gym for awhile. The dive bar talked about was Sail Inn. There was also a beauty salon in that mall. There was also a Bank of America in there. The christmas fair was awesome. I still have a necklace my dad got for me from there. Thiftys and their 5 cent scoops. Those were the days…lol.

First picture, kids referred to that hallway as the dungeon,
Surprised bulldozers haven’t cleared the land for high occupancy apartments.
Once a neighborhood shopping center’s anchor tenant leaves usually businesses begin to fail, surprised mall is still there. Monkey ward was anchor for the longest time.

Loved seeing movies at the dome theater.
I remember seeing a movie called The Sorcerer there when it came out in 77.
Check it out- if you can find it!

I remember “Sorcerer” – I won the (vinyl) soundtrack in a contest in a record store in Berkeley. Very German Techno as I recall, but I liked it. I also saw the movie.

I remember all of the above. I miss Wards, bought a lot of camping equipment there.

Man, starting to feel old when I see nostalgia bait like this and realize I remember it well but it’s long gone. Fenton’s was a great place for a treat. Wards had everything. I think my dad ordered a replacement engine for his ’49 Mercury there. There was a dive bar out front of the Dome that was always a bit intimidating as a kid, but I bet was a lot of fun.

The dive bar was the Sail In I recall correctly… or something really close to that.
Had doors leading to the outside and to the inside of the mall in case you could not take any more shopping!

I bought some of my big hunting knives from vendors inside that mall, even some gun stuff. That was the good ol days anything you pretty much wanted could buy no government overreach BS. Still can buy just have to go to Nevada.

… had the best prices on firearms and sometimes had some of the more unusual ones – still at reasonable prices

Dated a girl that worked at that Monkey Wards in 1979.
All I got. 🤷

I used to frequent the mall when I worked close by in the 80’s until it’s closing. Montgomery Wards displayed the temperature on the pole in the parking lot near the key kiosk. Shopped at the Sawmill at times, and knew the lady who owned the Chinese restaurant. Had many a lunch there.
And not to forget the Fair Oaks Market and gas station across the street!
