You’re kidding right! Pray for the youth of today they’ll never have a chance in life.

Lambie November 18, 2019 - 1:51 PM - 1:51 PM

If school is in session until 6pm, they won’t have time to play rough & tumble games after school. 😝

YES YES YES November 18, 2019 - 12:07 PM - 12:07 PM

We are raising a group of soft worthless children. Its ok to get hurt, it’s ok to try things out. For godsake let kids be kids. They don’t need to be raised in a bubble. We are creating a weak future.

NoMoreFreeRide November 18, 2019 - 1:16 PM - 1:16 PM

Yep

bob November 18, 2019 - 12:15 PM - 12:15 PM

pretty soon no recess for the elementary school kids. the system is warped!

Lo November 18, 2019 - 12:20 PM - 12:20 PM

…and that’s why our children are so soft and need participation trophies for everything. A red rubber ball to the face, a scraped knee, and losing now and then in childhood is just part of growing up! Get used to it NOW before you’re an entitled adult who cries over everything you think “isn’t fair!!!!!”

Me November 18, 2019 - 3:06 PM - 3:06 PM

Scrapped knee, maybe, losing definitely, but no good ever came from getting smacked in the face with a big red ball. I know from experience. Dodge ball was insane. I mean if you want to play dodge ball, by all means. But for the teacher to make it P.E. for the day, so you had to play, sucked. “What did you do at school today honey?” “Oh I stood in the middle of a circle of my peers while they tried to nail me with a ball!”

YES YES YES November 18, 2019 - 3:08 PM - 3:08 PM

EXACTLY!!!!

nytemuvr November 18, 2019 - 4:37 PM - 4:37 PM

@Me… “Oh I stood in the middle of a circle of my peers while they tried to nail me with a ball!”… That’s not the game of dodgeball I remember. Maybe being smacked in the head has affected your memory.

Turn n Burn November 19, 2019 - 6:51 AM - 6:51 AM

Me. So you just stood there and took it? Then complained to your parents? I bet you’d complain about playing Jacks, and how you couldn’t grab the little red ball and jacks at the same time, and the pointiness of the jacks hurt your hand. Grow up.

Dawg November 18, 2019 - 12:29 PM - 12:29 PM

By banning such childhood games, the kids of today will grow up to be a bunch of pansies. We will have to bring back the draft since so many of them will be weak minded and not willing to enlist into the US Armed Forces.

anon November 18, 2019 - 12:36 PM - 12:36 PM

What a joke! What are kids supposed to do for fun these days other than bury themselves in electonics. Let them play outside.

Dee November 18, 2019 - 12:48 PM - 12:48 PM

Are you kidding!? OMG we all played these when we were growing up and we are still alive an breathing. No wonder we are getting a bunch of softies out there now. What next bubble wrap when they walk out the door to go home? SMDH

DD November 18, 2019 - 12:48 PM - 12:48 PM

And just when you thought California couldn’t get any more stupid.

chuckie the troll November 18, 2019 - 2:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Never under-estimate the ability of Liberal officials in California to raise the bar on stupid decisions.

TeacherMom November 18, 2019 - 2:33 PM - 2:33 PM

California has nothing to do with it. This is happening all over the U.S. Yes, in red states too.

Steve November 18, 2019 - 12:59 PM - 12:59 PM

Just wrap the kids up in bubble wrap as their new school uniforms, much safer and cheaper.

Ricardoh November 18, 2019 - 1:05 PM - 1:05 PM

When I was a kid my friends and i used to play war with sling shots. You had to hit below the waist if you could hit a running target. What’s a couple of bruises? One time we did with daisy b b guns. It is not the kids making rules it is whacked out adults and lawyers.

Concord74 November 18, 2019 - 1:05 PM - 1:05 PM

@”DD”” TRUISM!!!

This is unbelievable!! Who are the milk-brains setting this forth??!

Concord74 November 18, 2019 - 1:06 PM - 1:06 PM

per “DD”” TRUISM!!!

This is unbelievable!! Who are the milk-brains setting this forth??!

Old-school guy November 18, 2019 - 1:24 PM - 1:24 PM

So glad I grew up in the 60s. I wouldn’t replace my childhood games with this sh!t.

Clay November 18, 2019 - 1:37 PM - 1:37 PM

I support the ban! Provide each kid with a yoga or pilates mat and an individual cubical on the school yard. School staff will have to make sure that none of the kids bump into one another as walk in a slow and orderly manner to their specific cubical.

stumpy November 18, 2019 - 1:40 PM - 1:40 PM

Good God what do you want to do raise a bunch of soft pansy kids ? Let them play these games and grow a skin. If you ban all of these games you will have a bunch of kids that are afraid of their own shadow and then what will we have to protect this world when they get older.

Lambie November 18, 2019 - 1:56 PM - 1:56 PM

Kids need to get hurt once in a while, they need to learn how to cope with an injury.

chuckie the troll November 18, 2019 - 1:58 PM - 1:58 PM

Public schools have been trying to neuter their male students (victims) for years. 25 years ago my son’s Kindergarten teacher informed me that my son had ‘harassed’ girls by chasing them. So…I asked her if the girls had been chasing the boys. Yep, you guessed it…crickets. And the subject was NEVER raised again.

BTW- When will football, basketball, etc…be banned in our schools? They are way too violent.

Thinkfirst November 18, 2019 - 2:04 PM - 2:04 PM

You guys think. These games are being banned because of parents who sue over every little bump, scrape or bruise. That is the only reason…it is the parents not the schools.

Bad Nombre November 18, 2019 - 2:12 PM - 2:12 PM

Presumably they have already done away with Dodge Ball.

HappyPappy November 18, 2019 - 2:24 PM - 2:24 PM

Thanks to the ambulance chasers.
HAMLET was right!

TeacherMom November 18, 2019 - 2:31 PM - 2:31 PM

Schools are running scared (pun intended) nowadays because of lawsuits. It’s out of control. Just because we used to run around tagging people in elementary school did not make us “violent”. It was great fun. I believe the commenter who referred to canceling dodgeball is unfortunately correct.

zabemo November 18, 2019 - 3:19 PM - 3:19 PM

Why take it away? Why not teach the kids to play well together, more responsibly? We aren’t teaching our kids anything by just taking everything away. We as parents, teachers and administrators need to teach out children the proper way to behave, and play.. Honestly maybe it’s time to look back at how people were raised in the 40’s and 50’s.. when something was earned, and respect was taught.

RANDOM TASK November 18, 2019 - 3:27 PM - 3:27 PM

all sports are next ….football first …next basketball…then gymnastics
soon we will be as soft as a communist socialist on crime in this state

those who approve
or say ouch no fun I was the target
you probably didn’t learn anything from those games like
working to get better or team work

I feel sorry for you as you stumble through life in bubblewrap ..pale skinned and suffering from measles mumps and rubella as well as reinforcing your cubical from your neighbors at work
I mean how do you drive or do you bike even more dangerous
maybe you walk still dangerous
hmmm a driver ….expensive and seeing how your probably hiding all the time from life don’t make too much money ….oh I know you drive a Subaru because they told you it was safe …sorry that right
as well as legalizing theft so the bums stop bothering you ,,,how is that working out for ya ….oh no that’s right you want to rehabilitate criminals by releasing them on the street to self rehab …how is that going
oh wait maybe mueller can help with that right …
but how do you get dressed in the morning for fear of a spider in your shoe or a moth ahhhhhhh

Nature Lover November 18, 2019 - 3:33 PM - 3:33 PM

Can’t imagine how we survived, tag, dodge ball, touch football, drinking water from the garden hose, riding bikes and roller skates without pads and helmets, etc etc.

Abbie R. November 18, 2019 - 10:18 PM - 10:18 PM

I drank water from a garden hose at a retail nursery fourty years ago. They had run Mir-a-cle Gro fertilizer through it with a Syphonex, and It was stomach Flu like symptoms all night.

nytemuvr November 18, 2019 - 11:54 PM - 11:54 PM

@Abbie R….Did you have a growth spurt in the next couple of months?

The Fearless Spectator November 18, 2019 - 4:33 PM - 4:33 PM

We took the reflectors off our bicycles because they looked so much cooler without them.

We tied the flags to our belt loops to play flag football.

We had “Ben-Hur Races” at recess using jump ropes as whips.

No deaths, no major injuries, and………….nobody brought a gun to school.

Perhaps we should focus on today’s school risks that result in death. There seems to be one of those weekly. If we get that handled, then move on minor injury risk.

ClayDen November 18, 2019 - 4:37 PM - 4:37 PM

Welcome to Snowflakeafornia.

anon November 18, 2019 - 4:50 PM - 4:50 PM

They don’t want kids getting hurt but they haven’t made schools any safer from someone coming onto campus and start shooting the students.

Dr. Jellyfinger November 18, 2019 - 5:20 PM - 5:20 PM

Well…. as long as they don’t start slamming each other over the head with their helmets I say let ’em play….. and if they get rough, suspend them.

Concernicus November 18, 2019 - 5:44 PM - 5:44 PM

Tag isn’t rough, it becomes rough when a jerk uses too much force to “tag” someone with. And that’s not tag’s fault, that’s the jerk’s fault.

I broke my wrist in 2nd grade because someone stepped on my shoelace as I was running on the playground and I landed on my wrist… but we didn’t demand banning shoelaces. Never would’ve even thought of it lol Shit happens! You can’t childproof everything!!

Lambie November 18, 2019 - 7:26 PM - 7:26 PM

🤫 Don’t give them the idea!

Lambie November 18, 2019 - 7:33 PM - 7:33 PM

Why do they want to deprive kids the fun of playing all the variations of tag? We played one version where you had to hold your hand where you were tagged. Guess which body parts were tagged the most?

I remember playing Chinese jump rope too, that’s probably banned also 😉

Foonman November 18, 2019 - 7:39 PM - 7:39 PM

Glad to see some of you get IT! We are in the golden age of lawyering. Turning out another 80 to 100 thousand every year. They will take a case on anything to get 3-400 dollars an hour. I am a advocate for the loser paying all costs in legal matters. Frees up the courts time for truly important cases.

Googlar November 18, 2019 - 8:59 PM - 8:59 PM

The war on boys continues. Your children will be drugged and punished for displaying masculine behavior, with no other outlet the only solution will be state sponsored transgender surgery.

No Excuses November 19, 2019 - 12:38 AM - 12:38 AM

Soon, all too soon…there will be nothing left but a NON-Participation Trophy. Hey grandma…how about…………………

Anon November 19, 2019 - 7:52 AM - 7:52 AM

What ?
Guns are OK but not tag?
We need new teachers, principles and politicians

Sam Malone November 19, 2019 - 7:52 AM - 7:52 AM

This is getting to the point, excuse me, way past the point of being ridiculous. Politicians stop NOT DOING YOUR JOB and going after foolishness issues. You are useless. Why can’t we recall all of these air sucking fools who do nothing but make life so much more difficult with taxation that only helps the entitlement crowd. WAKE UP CALIFORNIA and the NATION.

The Fearless Spectator November 19, 2019 - 11:55 AM - 11:55 AM

And now our Governor pardons immigrant criminals to reduce their chances of being deported. He claims they are rehabilitated and will be model citizens. Perhaps that’s true, but would a lucid human stake their career on it?

This is simply his way of giving Trump the finger.

The Grant November 19, 2019 - 8:24 AM - 8:24 AM

Meanwhile in Concord, I’m teaching my 6.5 year old son to be “hands on” – how to use tools / types of tools, build things besides Legos (e.g. balsa wood airplanes, rockets, etc.), Nerf gun fights, and he takes Kung Fu 4 times a week.

The Mamba November 19, 2019 - 8:35 AM - 8:35 AM

No, I think we’re going the wrong direction, and this is part of the problem we’re having with the Millenials and Generation Z, they have been coddled and babied their whole lives.

Calendar Girl November 19, 2019 - 10:07 AM - 10:07 AM

All it takes is one student getting a concussion. A threat to sue the school by the parents follows. Suddenly, any games played on the asphalt involving running, throwing balls to each other, tug-of-war, etc. are banned overnight.
It’s so sad. That happened at my kids’ school.

jose November 19, 2019 - 1:22 PM - 1:22 PM

Re-instate the draft, or does one still have to register for it?
