Today’s question:
QUESTION: What is your favorite food, and what is one food you could live without ever eating again that you normally have at the Thanksgiving dinner table?
Talk about it….
My relatives love smoky egg dip and for years that’s what they requested i bring to Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. They like so much by the time dinner arrives having so much of the egg dip they don’t have much room for dinner. 😀
I like the dip but also turkey and stuffing which can pretty much have any day of the year anyway. Dinners often include mince pie which i’m not a fan of.
Smoky egg dip sounds Yummy.
Going to google search that for sure,… 🙂
I just did a search to see what was there and the first listing (NaturesYoke) has the identical recipe. I use a food processor and just put all the ingredients in it and blend until smooth.. The recipe has been around for years and apparently originated at the Waldorf Hotel.
@ Captain Bebops,..Thank You!
That’s the one I was checking out.
I think I’ll have to try the smoky egg dip too. It sounds like it may be the best use for Liquid Smoke I’ve ever heard of, and it takes up a good bit of it. If I said how long I’ve had my bottle you’d think I was exaggerating. I’ve looked at it sometimes to see if it needed to be thrown out, but the stuff doesn’t seem to break down or change over a long time. I sure can’t remember what I would’ve bought it for, could be I made barbeque sauce once.
I love stuffing with gravy, and I hate any kind of canned vegetable. However, I come from a Sicilian family, and meals are always prepared Italian style with fresh ingredients. Everything is absolutely wonderful.
I too am Sicilian,…second generation born here in the States. Bet you also have dishes from the Old Country served up too. This year, since it’s just the two of us, Hubby wanted Ham, Green Bean and a Potato Casserole. At Christmas, will bring on the Pasta,… :).
Love sweet potatoes. A must have and cranberry sauce. I usually cook my own cranberry sauce but not this year. It will come out of a can. The sweet potatoes will also be out of a can. Better than not having any.
I love pumpkin pie, but I could do away with turkey forever. I think I’ve only had it once when it wasn’t dry. I’ll take chicken over turkey any day.
Dropping food off to the homeless under the bridges. My wife does it every year. They like all of it. My f favorite is still turkey.
Mayor (or moderator on duty), please consider requesting the above person to stop using a moniker so deliberately close to another person’s long-standing (and deliberately unique) moniker.
Thank you for considering this.
I don’t like anything pumpkin, no pumpkin pie, soup etc. Just don’t like the taste of pumpkins, my Dad use to grow them and my mother would make pickle pumpkin, kind of sweet and sour.
I like a traditional thanksgiving meal, turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, stuffing and cranberry sauce, which I make myself, it only take a few minutes, just simmer it on the stove, with sugar and some orange juice and rind.
For dessert for years I made an eggnog mousse pie, it is very rich and sinful, haven’t made it in several years, since it takes awhile, the alternative is an upside down cranberry cake, served with whipped cream.
I’m alone this years, since I worked yesterday and again tomorrow, so don’t have time to drive down to Pasadena where my daughter and family lives. I will make a nice meal, but keep it simple, especially dessert.
Hanne-
Your cranberry upside down cake sounds
deeeeeeeelicious! When I was a kid in
Minnesota my Aunt use to bake a tasty
pineapple upside down cake. If I was your
neighbor and smelled that cake baking
I can guarantee you’d have a friend to dine
with. Happy Thanksgiving!
Both of those desserts sound quite amazing, Hanne.
The love it all but the Turkey! The appetizers before include shrimp and a yummy cheese plate! Then I’m all about the mashed potatoes, Brussel sprouts, and stuffing! Way too many carbs but so delicious!
Mashed potatoes and gravy, then cherry and apple pies.
Why would I normally have something at my Thanksgiving table that I do without ever eating again? That’s why I don’t prepare turkey!
Have never liked yams/sweet potatoes. I used to make cranberry/orange relish but nowadays fresh cranberries are bitter and tasteless. I like one mincemeat pie per year but have to make it myself because they are no longer in the stores. I’m the last in the family of British/Scottish descent and the younger ones don’t like traditional foods.
I know they are supposed to be fantastic now but I can’t deal with Brussels sprouts. I’m a Philistine.
Whereas I love any form of stuffing. And I never understand why we don’t eat it more often.
Happy Thanksgiving all.
There is very little I don’t like, but enjoy even more the things we have only for Thanksgiving/Christmas, such as pumpkin and pecan pie. I guess there is a carrot salad that is served that I manage to avoid getting on my plate.
Can do without sweet potatoes, though I love yams.
My favorite special dishes are:
*a casserole I make using fresh asparagus tips
*homemade yeast rolls
*pecan pie (made with pecans from Sunnyland Farms in Georgia and served with real whipped cream on the side)
My dear 85 year old neighbor went on a Thanksgiving marathon! She baked two turkeys and all the delicious sides. The turkey was very moist. The best everything. She had her hired helper put everything in containers and shared with the neighbors who like me were sheltering in place! She made the traditional sides. She makes sour green beans which one must have an acquired taste for. I think it is European. Then another neighbor brought over the best pecan pie I ever ate. Thankful for so much this year.
What I’m going to miss most this year is turkey sandwiches!
