If you could visit one historical site in the United States, where would you go, and why?

Talk about it.

Hum,…not sure, but my Hubby would like to visit Mt Rushmore on 4th of July.

For a single site, I would visit the Wright Brothers monument on Kill Devil Hill on the coast of North Carolina…. it’s been far too many years since my last visit, and flight has had an enormous significance in our family’s life. Plus I love the salt marshes, the town of Manteo not too far away, and the sand sloping gradually down into the Atlantic Ocean. Home!

And I have always wanted to return to the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., and see the WHOLE thing….. the entire complex of buildings…. at my leisure.
…… not an “historic site”, but containing so many of our historical artifacts, etc..

We did the Biplane ride over the W.B. monument, what a ride. NC is a beautiful state. I would also like to go threw the Smithsonians again myself, love history.

lol blm and their political and socialist komi councils and boards and teachers and DA and judges all but wiped out any great history

even the grand canyon is racist as well as national parks in general

and now even BBQ is racist

so the question should actually be

are you in favor of saving history for our children to make their own decisions

or are you so demented and narcissistic as to think your actions are for the many good and the future should be as politicians want it

Okay, I’ll bite. What’s a komi council? And how can a canyon be racist?

That was a tourettes like non-answer if there ever was one LOL!

I think she’s talking about White Man Hegemonic History being negated.

Nevada Nuclear Test Site

Why? Why not?!

Harper’s Ferry.

I’d return to Washington D.C. and see it all. We’ve been there before, but anyone who has been there knows there is SO much to see. I’ve had this conversation with my husband and elderly mom (and friends) but for whatever reason we’re always traveling somewhere else. Maybe I’ll go by myself…

I’ve been to quite a few historical sights here in the West, but not so much in the East. Salem, Massachusetts with it’s old house where the witch trials were held, and the old cemeteries would be a fun visit. Salem has a lot of old houses and buildings that were built in the 1600’s, including Nathaniel Hawthorne’s birthplace, the House of Seven Gables.
After that, maybe take a drive over to Boston. It’s a little less than an hour away, and I’d love to see Old Ironsides, the USS Constitution.
Did you know the USS Constitution is the oldest commissioned warship in the world that’s still afloat? She’s operated by the Boston National Parks, and the United States Navy. Naval officers and crew still serve aboard her.

Cape Canaveral (is that a historical site?)

Not sure, DC never been there even though l lived on the East Coast for 6 years. Also JFK library in Boston been to Boston but not the library. Since l lived in New York have of course seen statue of Liberty, but never actual went into it, just passed by in a boat. Which is kind of sad, because when l was about 10 years old in Denmark l saw a travel film from New York and was fascinated that you could walk up her arm, and l decided one day l would go to the US and do that, somehow didn’t get around to it and it’s been years since you could walk up her arm.

I am not sure which histrorical site I would visit. I only wish I was born 1000 years ago. Just think of all the history that I wouldn’t have to learn!

America, 1950’s and stay there…………

Hangtown

Hard to choose. Is Boston a historical site? So much to see there. Was in Philly once for work, so did not have time for Independence Hall. I view that as probably the most important historical site in the United States.

Mt Rushmore Nothing happened there except it was built but still would like to see it. I have seen a lot of the rest of it.

Are we allowed to like Historical Sites ?…wait….is the term “Historical Site” offensive ? Shoot, is asking about it mean I’m not “woke” ? Are we allowed to use the term “woke” if we don’t know if we are ….woke? Wouldn’t want to upset the Woke Crowd. Oh what the heck ….I’d love to see Roanoke (it rhymes with “woke” ) Island, Virginia. Yes, that was sarcasm. Still want to see Roanoke Island. Happy Hump Day.

Seems theres no differentiating between a historic site where a major event occurred and a landmark such as Fort Ross. Im choosing the former as a point of conversation as I’ve been to thousands of the latter.

Ive been to Pearl Harbor, Sutters Mill in Coloma, the field in Akron where football was first played,

I choose Gettysburg.

I do recommend Little Bighorn. A very somber site.

Living in the Bay Area I been to a few. Alcatraz Island, Jack London State Park in Glen Ellen and John Muir House in Martinez. Next would have to be Gettysburg Battlefield.

I’d like to travel & see the spot where Dr. John Marsh was murdered…
I’m saving up for the trip…. someday.

I have been to almost all of the places mentioned, but would like to go back to Pearl Harbor and plan to do so. My Dad was a Pearl Harbor survivor and I have been there a couple of times. I would also like to go back to Mt. Rushmore. One place that I have visited that was very special was the mission control room at the Johnson Space Center in Houston that the Apollo Program and the first Shuttle missions (among others) were controlled from; I got to sit at one of the consoles.

Preserved part of old town Williamsburg, VA! Historical and history of our country was made there. Been there twice and would love to go again.

Hmmm….tricky question, there are so many that I’d like to see, but I guess my first choice would be Ellis Island since my paternal Grandfather immigrated to the US from Russia and went through the Ellis Island system.
