For some idiotic reason, destruction of property during the new Minecraft movie is something moviegoers are doing nationwide, and unfortunately, it hit close to home. Contra Costa Cinema in Martinez issued the above warning over the weekend after vandals destroyed several pieces of furniture and caused other damage to the theater during the Minecraft movie.

Prosecute to the full extent – no slack

I’ll just take this moment to say that theater is really awesome. The staff are always friendly, they have like 6 iirc local beers on tap, and the popcorn is great. Tickets are only like $7 on tuesday.

One of the employees dressed up like Beetlejuice and did an amazing impression when the film came out, put a real smile on my face.

Jack Black needs to stop making movies. He also needs to check himself into Jenny Craig because if he doesn’t lose weight he is going down a bleak road.

Back in the 1970s, a good friend of mine managed (& later owned) a theater in the Hayward/San Leandro area. They had a frequent problem with seat slashing that was caused by teenagers. He then started a policy of “no one under 17 admitted without an adult” regardless of what the film was rated. (He did show a couple of Russ Meyer X-rated films, which of course meant no one under 18 admitted.) That seemed to cut down the seat slashing activity.

Perhaps theaters should bring back ushers and this may cut out some of this activity.

I was an usher back in the day and the worst crime was putting feet on the seats.

Goodbye civilized society. It was nice knowing you.

How dare these creeps vandalize and ruin everyone’s fun.
Perhaps security dog could take the bite out of crime and teach them a lesson.

This theater, being nearby, I frequently attended especially for matinees when I sometimes might be the only paid customer. But what blew my mind was how quickly it adopted digital projectors and in no time every auditorium there had a digital projector. I found out the reason was that the company managing the theater was also doing consultations and demonstrations for theater owners across the country to learn how they could do the jump to digital.
.
I haven’t been there since before the “pandemic” though. Theaters don’t have pause buttons. 😎
