Ha! Told you so.
Not anywhere near as satisfying
as I thought it would be though.
Feel for anyone scrambling to protect data
when their only sin
was curiosity.

Your dna was the the reason the tests were cheap. Let’s hope people dumb enough to give their DNA away aren’t also dumb enough not to get away with crimes.

What if I want my data and samples to be saved so it can be used to solve some horrible crimes. Maybe another company buys 23&Me and keeps the data to benefit future generations. What is our Attorney General is trying to prevent? Why is the Attorney General telling me what to do with my data? Don’t decide for me, I will make my own decisions.
Your data will be sold to health insurance companies, or Big Pharma. They will note genetic predispositions towards specific diseases. They will increase your rates or push their drugs accordingly.
Or your data could be sold to agencies that are simply speculating on a future, unforeseen value.
Once 23&Me has folded there will be no one accountable for a data breach. There will be no to save your data, unless it is for their financial benefit.
If 23&Me gets purchased by another company, the new company will have no legal barriers to selling your data as they see fit.
Are you getting the picture yet?
