Governor Gavin Newsom told all state workers they have to go back to the office at least 4 days a week by July 1, but the unions are fighting back against it. (see video below).
QUESTION: Do you think workers are being lazy, or do you think they should be able to work from home if they want to?
Talk about it.
Like the rest of us in the workforce you do what you’re told to do. Prior to Covid, we worked at work. If they’re too lazy to return to work, yes, they’re just being lazy. It’s called WORK for a reason.
I managing some remote workers back in the 1990s. I was good at remote work and got what was required done but not everyone can do that. When the scamdemic came along and people had to work remote I knew there was going to be problems which indeed there was. My rule for success was get your own personal or home chores out of the way first so they don’t hang over your head when you’re supposed to be working.
.
As for my workers we had to bring them back in house and one thanked me for doing so because he was having problems getting motivated working from home.
.
I would let those who are productive working remote continue to do so. Those that aren’t probably need team stimulation at the office.
They can work from home, all they want. They just need to find another job that allows that. In the meantime, they need to go work just like everyone else, or quit their government jobs.
As long as they get theirs work done, I don’t care that where they work and how they do. Personally, I want to work remotely at a resort to get away from the family and annoying coworkers.
Paul, do you think you can put up with the maid & room service people bothering you?
*
As for all the State employees… I swear, the choices are simple.
Do what the job demands or find a different job.
I’m sure there are lots of well paying positions available that don’t require you to leave the house, pay better than the CA.state govt. jobs do & offer more job security…. on other planets that is.
4 days in the office per week and you are marching in the streets crying about it?
Stop acting like children.
Get back to work or quit… there are lots of people ready to take your place.
Just put the “do not disturb” sign in the front door and nobody will bother you. Problem solved EZPZ.
Unfortunately a few remote workers have given many other productive workers from home a bad name. but, I know the cities have complained long and hard about the small businesses going out of business due to the lack of in-city workers, (SF, Oakland, etc.) So they saw vacant store front become the norm so they cried to the mayors – and Newscum, to get the employees back in the office to stop the “bleed” in the big cities. BART too. My personal belief is if they can do the work from home – great – many times the employees work even longer hours because they don’t have to commute. If someone isn’t pulling their weight working from home it’s the managers fault for not following up and fixing the problem.
Likely more than a “Few”…
You work from wherever the boss tells you to be. Resign your position if it is such a burden.
Fire those who don’t show up.
It’s hard for me to feel sorry for them. As a county worker, I had to come back to the office 5 days a week three years ago. It was nice while it lasted.
I swear the only people that care about all of this (aside from state workers) are old retirees shaking their canes “I worked for 125 years in the office and so should you!” This isn’t about efficiency. It’s about Newsoms 2028 presidential bid and the attempt at picking up some conservative votes. Wake up people.
True. And that’s why it wouldn’t be a waste of money to recall Greasy Gavin.
No conservative would ever vote for The Greasy One.
where did you copy this from and who has a wild imagination?
They prefer 5 days a week?
I would love to see a change to four days of
work and school.
Great time to make the change permanent
I think they are being a little bit lazy and spoiled. He’s only asking for 4 days a week in office. Like the rest of us do!… but frankly I would be okay if it were just 3 days a week. Cuz I have to confess, today I work from home and I was actually just as productive as I was at work and I’ve worked through the time that I’ve normally would be commuting in traffic so I could see two days work from home a week.
I love that sign “Cubicles are Not Culture”, LOL
… depending on the business … the cubicle environment can be very productive (been there for 20+ yrs) but some businesses / jobs aren’t necessarily more productive that way … always depends on the circumstances imho
Wouldn’t say someone was lazy if to work from home, …maybe just a bit spoiled?
My Hubby’s job (retired April 2024) required him to walk the Refinery.
Has to get info for the drawings to do on CAD.
So, if you work from home, but the boss says, “come in the office”, … maybe time for a new job.
everybody wants to slack off from home like Gavin the Nuisance
Weird people here who think that other people should “have to” do something because they “have to” it or “had to” do it. What a negative, cruel mindset. I bet you also think that someone else should unnecessarily struggle and have hardship simply because you did. A number of studies have shown that most workers are just as efficient or more so as they work from home. I certainly was more efficient when I worked from home — I was actually given MORE work when I worked from home because my manager thought that we somehow had the capacity to do more work because we were at home??? It’s just companies freaking out that they’re paying rent/leases without anyone in the building, and then property owners freaking out about it. It’s all back to money that has nothing to do with the product.
Haven’t most of the DMV employees been working from home for decades?
…. being facetious? no, at the start of covid the staffers in Sacto HQ started wfh and have remained for mostly that way until now …. but the field offices? No
“Suck it up Buttercup” been working normal 5 days and then some from the beginning like I should, you only think you are effective and a benefit to the company. It’s called work for a reason…not happy time fun world.

This is a test of who really believes in climate change. One of the few good outcomes of the covid lockdown was how clear and beautiful the air became. If the State really believes we have to live in tiny crowded apartments layered on top of each or we will all die, why wouldn’t the State want to limit the number of cars on the road by having at least some people work from home?
please show data to support this!!!! How did we determine how clean the air was with masks on? just curious
so go here and in the lower left corner click, then pick chem and CO2sc. Current modeling of carbon monoxide in the air….then look at India and China. Hmmmm, kinda funny how we don’t make a dent

When the pandemic hit, I knew WFH would take a while to wind down. WFH was an accommodation to allow business to be conducted. Now employees think it’s an entitlement. IT’S NOT.
.
RETURN TO THE OFFICE.
Each employee should be evaluated on
work performance, quality of work product,
and hours worked, regardless of work location.
.
Civil servants should be held to same standards
as those doing equivalent work in private sector.
.
Those not measuring up, how many have same manager?
Bottom rung on the ladder isn’t always the problem.
Next examine amount of overtime per employee,
is one manager again a commonality?
.
Unfortunately there are employees who’ve carved out
a comfortable little niche, replete with overtime.

money they can be paid IF they learn a craft.

Students in program are headhunted buy companies even
before they complete the programs. Graduates come out
with a portable craft allowing them to get a job anywhere in
the world. Some former coworkers went to work for bart as
electricians . . . . $100,000 a year.

They may have to go back to the office, but I am not so sure if they have to go back to work. This is mostly preening by greasy gavin as he paves the road for his run for President (like he stands a chance), so my sense is, there is the announcement, but enforcement will be as diligent as prosecuting illegal aliens. The narrative gets out, so nuisance can say he made such a requirement.
I work for the State and never left.
You tax payers should be so lucky.
Don’t fret though, I bring a useful set of skills with me most days.
Most days. 😘
They are lazy and can’t afford babysitters now. Fed workers have always been lazy, you get paid whether you work or not.
Time tobgo back to work, I am tired of hearing all of uou at the gym bragging that your computer is on and you only work for an hour a day. Them some of you have the audacity to add overtime to your time sheet. Go back to worl lazy asses.
This issue sheds some clarity on how Greasy Gavin and all the other feckless vote buying democrat politicians keep getting elected in California, over and over and over again.
I think that is reasonable. When I started to sell Long Term Care Insurance, I would do paperwork and phoning for appointments from my place. I was associated with a brokerage firm in Burlingame. We had monthly meetings, and I was meeting with potential clients at their home. After a few years I decided I wanted to be totally independent, the brokerage firm take some of your commission, but they provide you with support and leads. I found when I didn’t have the contact with other agents, I missed it, even though it was only once a month, and I actually got a little depressed. I’m an only child and grew up in the country and the weather in Denmark in winter is at times such that you can’t just bike to your nearest playmate, so I’m used to be alone, but pnly so much. I’m now in contact with customers and coworkers everyday,
