The following is from the Contra Costa County CHP:

A two vehicle head-on crash early this morning has resulted in fatal injuries to both drivers. On March 8, at approximately, 2:58 a.m., officers assigned to the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Contra Costa Area office responded to a two-vehicle head-on crash which occurred on southbound Kirker Pass Road, just north of Hess Road in Concord. Our preliminary investigation indicates a Honda Civic was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Kirker Pass Road when it crashed head-on into a Toyota 4Runner traveling in the correct direction. The driver of the Honda, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle. Tragically, both drivers succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Although toxicology results are pending, DUI is suspected as a contributing factor in the crash. Both northbound and southbound lanes of Kirker Pass Road were closed at approximately 3:23 a.m., for on-scene investigation, and were re-opened at approximately 7:53 a.m. This crash remains under investigation. If anyone witnessed the incident or the events leading up to it, please contact Contra Costa Area office in Martinez at (925) 646-4980 or email your contact information to 320Investigations@chp.ca.gov to be contacted by the investigating officer.

The sadness of this crash points to the fact that the driver of the 4-runner was on her way to work at the Clayton Safeway, where she worked in the produce department, cutting up fruits and vegetables for the plastic in store produce containers that many of us all buy. Her name was Eva, and everyone working in that store today was affected by her loss, especially those that worked with her in the produce department. She was a 41-year-old mother of 3 children, the youngest being a 10-year-old young girl. She will be greatly missed by many. Although, I barely knew her, I sometimes gave her free eggs from my farm, while picking up outdated used produce for all of my chickens and ducks, discarded from the produce department. Although, I am not that knowledgeable about doing so, it would be nice to see someone produce a Go Fund Me Type Donation for the family she has left behind…Prayers for you Eva!

This makes me so angry. So tired of aholes who make stupid decisions wrecking simone else’s life
