Congressman Mark DeSaulnier: “I Know That People Are Scared And Angry At What Seems Like The President Testing The Waters To Get Unlimited And Unbridled Power”

The following letter is from Congressman Mark DeSaulnier:

Over the past month, the Administration, led by unelected billionaire and DOGE head Elon Musk, has made a flurry of dangerous, and often unconstitutional, executive actions that have destabilized our government and the programs tens of millions of Americans rely on, upended the lives of millions of federal workers, and targeted vulnerable communities like immigrants and LGBTQ+ individuals. Meanwhile, the Administration has done nothing to drive down costs for American families.

I know that people are scared and angry at what seems like the president testing the waters to get unlimited and unbridled power, and whether you have contacted my office or attended one of our town halls this past month, I have taken to heart your concerns and deeply appreciate your engagement.

But I want you to know we are not powerless – While Democrats are in the minority in both chambers of Congress, we have had a great deal of success in blocking the Trump agenda through court action and despite a lack of action by House Republicans, Congress still has the power of the purse and is the only entity that can pass laws. So far, judges have halted many of the Administration’s efforts by keeping federal workers in their jobs, unfreezing billions of dollars in grants, and preserving birthright citizenship.

I wanted to share with you some of the work my office has been doing this past month to serve the people of California’s 10th District and combat the worst of the President’s agenda. You have my word that I will not stop fighting against the cruel, foolish, unconstitutional, and un-American actions of this Administration. If we can ever be of assistance to you or your family, please do not hesitate to contact my office.

Sincerely,

Signature

Mark DeSaulnier
Member of Congress

Mark, cabinet positions are appointed, so ‘unelected’. We have a constitution and 3 branches. Stop with the fear mongering!

96
19

Musk isn’t a cabinet position- he wasn’t confirmed by the Senate – which is in the Constitution. Trump side stepped that constitutional provision.

6
19

Don,
.
You are correct, Musk isn’t a Cabinet position, he’s a person. The President decides what Executive Branch positions that individuals hold will be in his Cabinet, not Congress!!! As an example, in President Trump’s first term he had the position of UN Ambassador as part of his Cabinet, while Nikki Haley held the position, but after she resigned President Trump removed the position of UN Ambassador from his Cabinet. The Constitution allows President Trump to have non-Senate confirmed “inferior officers” as part of his Cabinet. The Department of Government Efficiency hasn’t been created by Congress, so Elon Musk, as the head of DOGE, is an “inferior officer” and doesn’t need Senate confirmation. How quickly you’ve forgotten the two-dozen Czars who President Obama appointed to non-Senate confirmed positions in the Executive Branch. The number of non-Senate confirmed positions or “Czars” in the Executive Branch has become normal and has exploded in numbers over the last century.
.
Did you bother to even read the article or the headline? Congressman Mark DeSaulnier said, “I know that people are scared and angry at what SEEMS like the president testing the waters to get unlimited and unbridled power, and whether you have contacted my office or attended one of our town halls this past month, I have taken to heart your concerns and deeply appreciate your engagement.” Congressman Mark DeSaulnier, a Democrat, admitted that the actions taken by President Donald Trump only, “SEEMS like the president testing the waters to get unlimited and unbridled power.” While Congressman DeSaulnier went on to say, “You have my word that I will not stop fighting against the cruel, foolish, unconstitutional, and un-American actions of this Administration,” he didn’t say that the actions taken by President Trump have been unconstitutional, just that he’ll be, “fighting against the cruel, foolish, unconstitutional, and un-American actions of this Administration.”

16

Speaks for yourself Mark, I couldn’t be happier! I voted for someone who’s actually delivering, and I’m excited OUR tax dollars are no longer being thrown away carelessly

99
29

Trump is delivering chaos. Instead of trying to trim government excess in a systematic rational way, Musk is just doing slash and burn, in many cases throwing out the baby with the bath water. So far he had not delivered on gas prices, they are up quite a bit, eggs are still expensive, that is if you can find egg, Trader Joe’s is out, Grocery Outlet have a well stocked egg supplies, and their prices are down. Last time I bought 18 eggs for 11.99 medium size, which is pretty small, yesterday I was able to get 12 extra large eggs for $7.49, got off subject, sorry. I’m not blaming Trump for the price of eggs, but many blamed Biden for the price of eggs. I think Trump’s stand on Ukraine is scarry, of course they did not start the war, Russia did.

17
77

@Hanne, are you lying or just all that ignorant?
Egg prices are high because Biden had 100 million chickens killed before he left office. Prices will come down only after all those chickens are replaced.
Gas prices are going down except in Newsom’s California, where prices will probably never stop increasing.

61
12

Hanne, breathe. Then, do your own research outside of The View or MSNBC outlets. Your next post will be more educated, and won’t be nonsense. As noted, there was an Avian Flu outbreak, and millions of chickens were killed. Had nothing to do with Biden, or Trump. Relax, and enjoy his second term with a power team, unlike everyone on his first term was still bought and paid for by the deep state. Gonna be a VERY shaky next few months, so buckle up 🙂

37
6

you really need to take a class on economics and common sense.

22
7

Hanne Jeppesen,
.
President Donald Trump isn’t “delivering chaos,” our corrupt American corporate media is “delivering chaos,” just as they did in his first term. Our corrupt corporate media is delivering little on news facts, and delivering quite a bit on news opinions.

25
1

Since you are someone that pays little tax why would you care how other people’s money is spent? I’m tired of paying for all the California stupid causes. You constantly have bad takes. Gas prices are expensive because California has a huge tax on gas how do you not understand that. The aforementioned gas tax increased in January. Plenty of other states are $1.50+ less per gallon. What is your answer to that?

What a bunch of lefty talking points. Keep parroting whatever Nancy and Hakeem tell you to say, Mark. Or maybe take another knee.

How about saying something about the egregious levels of waste that has been uncovered by that “unelected bureaucrat” and the savings that he has already realized the American People? Nope, Nancy told you that every penny spent is absolutely necessary and you are toeing her line.

Your town halls are nothing more than another boring Dem rally spewing propaganda. Maybe pass the hat at the next one a make it a fund raiser too.

Suck it Mark. You are a worthless toadie that is incapable of thinking/speaking for yourself.

84
19

And from republicans you get republican talking points, it just really depends what side you are on.

9
53

but but but youre” middle of the road”

13
4

Hanne, I’m embarrassed to to admit it, but I don’t know any Republican talking points.
Could you give me a few so I can figure it out for myself in the future?

12
4

Please?
C’mon Hanne…. help me out.
I need to know a talking point or two.
I’m begging for enlightenment!
Maybe I’ll change my mind… go over to the Dark Side.
I can become a bombastic, radical, liberal, progressive, Super Star!
I have the potential…. I just need some guidance.
Maybe I should ask the MDUSD Teacher…. she’s transforming classrooms full of kids into little outspoken left wingers, teaching them the way they should think.

“Trump won the 2020 election”…

6
1

You missed it by one. That was 2016. But not if you asked a Democrat.

Hanne Jeppesen,
.
So, you’re admitting that Congressman Mark DeSaulnier is delivering “Democrat talking points,” and not facts or the truth, just as he delivered “Republican talking points” when he was a progressive Republican the first 30% of his political career.

17

Sounds like Mark is still stuck in the ideological woo-wooville of wokism.

71
17

I don’t think you all understand that as Trump takes expanded power, future presidents will as well. And as far right as policies are heading, which is not good, a Democrat can swing left.

Our democracy works best when policies remain at the center of the spectrum. If you were upset with Biden’s policies, those will appear more centrist with future Democrat leadership.

18
72

That’s a good classroom explanation and viewpoint. However, what’s going on in the real world is that the president is reacting to the extreme damage done by the past democrat actions.

75
9

Past damage? You mean like running up the deficit higher than any president till now.

5
9

Yes. It’s amazing that country survived the damage done by China Joe Biden.

17
1

What expounded power has the current POTUS used that are not afforded his office under the Constitutional?

57
6

President Trump issued an executive order tightening control over traditionally independent U.S. government agencies, including the Federal Election Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission. This order allows the White House to influence the budgets and policies of these entities, which is an unprecedented power grab and potential constitutional overreach.

2
52

Or another way of saying it is, he is acting within the frame work of the Constitution, you just don’t like it.

If and when a Federal Judge issues a permanent injunction you will have a valid point.

Until then it is just a fear of change.

42
1

There are currently three injunctions. I’m just saying

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Programs – A federal judge blocked enforcement of Trump’s executive orders restricting DEI programs.
Birthright Citizenship – Multiple federal judges issued preliminary injunctions against Trump’s order attempting to end birthright citizenship.
Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) – Legal challenges have been filed against Trump’s attempts to defund the CFPB, with opposition from 23 attorneys general.

4
19

Birthright citizenship is made up by Dems. Two illegals cannot have a child that is legal in this country.

17
2

Independent government agencies? Where is that in the Constitution? If you’re a government agency you should be under the purview of one of the three branches. Are you arguing differently?

26

… ” independent government ” = oxymoron. Somebody had to tighten controls. “Independent” NGOs have been running the country, stealing, wasting or losing control of TRILLIONS of DOLLARS, as has been made obvious by the ongoing audit of the USAID.

14

Shouldn’t you be teaching instead of posting at work?

What expanded power has Trump taken? I dare you to try and answer

37
11

Or is EO on birthright citizenship? Federal courts are blocking or pausing some initiatives, such as the attempt to end birthright citizenship, because the executive does not have the power to do all the things he is trying to accomplish.

I have probably forgotten more about the Constitution than you ever knew. So we can keep going with evidence-based discussion, or I can dare you to stay in your lane.

2
48

If you have forgotten more about the constitution… then you have a comprehension problem

I hope that the Dems policies skew even more left and make Slow Joe’s policies look centrist. They will never win another national election if they try that.

Speaking of Joe, where is he? Is he even alive? The poor old guy hasn’t made a single public statement since the election. Not even one sighting of him tripping and falling down. FREE JOE!!!

Blame Joe and Nancy and Barack and Chuck and every other toe-the-party-line Lib for Trump being president. Without their failures, someone else would be leading the country, DOGE wouldn’t exist and the swap gravy train would still be a-rollin’. Just wait until the final DOGE savings get totaled up,the $5,000 checks start arriving, and the midterm votes get tallied.

41
8

No wonder our children are failing.

53
2

What a well-thought-out, well-articulated burn.

3
44

It was short, simple, and to the point. And if the burn fits……….

29
2

100% of my seniors who applied to a 4-year university got accepted into a university. Two had had their Stanford in-person interviews and are waiting for the response. Your short-brained burn only appears to satisfy your simple mind.

3
42

If kids were actually educated, more of them would skip college. Instead, they are brainwashed that the path to prosperity is a degree. As a result, many end up in debt, far into middle age, and if they start families, it is not until later in life.

If they file bankruptcy, their loan debt will not go away. Is this something you make your students aware of?

27
3

Did you not understand that 100% of my students who applied were accepted? That was 36. I have 92 seniors. That means I had about 56 that did not apply and are either going to junior college, entering the trades, or some other opportunity.

2
10

Teacher,
100% accepted, but two are still waiting for a response? You obviously don’t teach mathematics.

23

Lordy.

Here is my math lesson

I have 92 seniors.
36 applied and were accepted to a CSU. 2 of the 36 that have been accepted are waiting to hear from Stanford. UC acceptances have not been issued yet.

That means 56 did not apply to a CSU or a UC.

I can draw it visually if needed.

2
10

Of course 100% got into 4 years school. You are such a liar. Go ahead and draw it

Whoa Nellie!

Congratulations…you are the 1st teacher I have ever heard of who had everyone of her students receive acceptance letters to a 4 year college. Are you teaching at Fantasy High?

12
2

No Chris, she only claimed those “who applied to a 4-year university” she never said how many actually applied though… so it’s not much of a brag.

3
4

on you

2
7

Cyn’s response to your arrogance is right on point.
You’ve “forgotten more about the Constitution than [SAM DOGE] ever knew.” Really? Really?

When was the last time you agreed to have your competency or knowledge base tested? Oh, that’s right. Your UNION protects you from having to prove your competence, while our students continue year after year to fall further behind grade level standards in all areas. You cannot blame Covid for the overarching decline that has been happening for decades.

I hope you are one of those teachers that the children can love and respect and above all, one from whom they can acquire the knowledge you are trained and paid to give them.

Sadly, after your performance here I have my doubts, but I also hope you have NEVER boasted to a student that you are bigger, stronger, better, smarter or more trust-worthy than their Parent!

12
1

The last time I had my constitutional knowledge tested was last year when I defended my thesis for my advanced degree in the Constitution. My area of emphasis was the impact of Common law on the founders in drafting the Constitution, checks and balances, and Alexander Hamilton’s idea of an “energetic executive.” So tell me more about the Constitution. Please.

As mentioned countless times, my job is to teach students how to think. That is what I do. I do not want them to leave my class thinking like I do. That is not my job. My job is to teach them to critically look at sound data, facts, and evidence and draw the conclusions they believe to be the most logical.

2
10

mmmhmmm. Had you chosen to write your thesis on a subject that had not already had two centuries of study and virtually dozens of volumes in literature upon which to lay the groundwork for your dust laden advancement …. I would have been more impressed.

There is no University that has a degree called Constitution

So you think maybe the Biden/Harris Administration pushed their radical, woke, everything gay agenda just a little too far for America to support?
What an epiphany!
I think you’re right about the left swinging to the center in the future…. they’ll say whatever it takes to get elected…… and they will be so sincere (even though they don’t really mean it).

31
5

I think after this administration, the policies of the next liberal administration will move far more to the left. Which I think is a bad idea. What we see now is not good for our democracy. But, it is the price we pay. We have spent $50 per year on each student to expand STEM education. We are spending .05 on civics education.

We are seeing the results now. Most Americans do not understand the basics of our Constitution.

2
20

you’re missing the point MDUSD Teacher, if the liberals move “far more to the left” there won’t BE a next liberal administration. You seem to think that the democrats will at some point just get their turn to govern, and there’s risk they’ll go crazy with the leftism. We still vote in this country, and the electorate has made a seismic shift AWAY from liberalism. The next Democrat to be elected to govern the country won’t in any way, shape or form look like the liberal democrats of yesterday. It has been pointed out that the current Republican party is really a melting pot of Democrats, old Republicans, Independents, Conservatives, Libertarians….really a whole new party that just kept an old name. What and who are the Democrats now? They have feet of clay, stuck in their old losing ways only capable of bleating about abortion, transgenderism, rich people, ‘fair share’, Palestine, unrealized capital gains taxes and making sure DOGE doesn’t look to close at where their grift is. The Democratic party has been left behind, this new 3rd party with the old name is taking over.

25
1

And apparently you do not either. The constitution is the founding document of this country and it has been amended numerous times since its adoption. As we have grown as a country, we have learned that we need to expand or explain it to meet modern events.

Ending birthright citizenship is a great thing as it meets the actual intention of the constitution. Unfortunately people have taken advantage of the liberal wording and therefore we need someone to help drive home the intention – see back when it was created we did not have such stupid people who want to leach off of society.

As for you having forgotten more than we know – I double dog challenge you.

As for your claim that all your seniors got accepted into university, sorry having been involved in the schools for a long time, no class can claim that unless the student population is tiny. And if it is tiny, it is not a valid statistical study, is it?

I am concerned that your name on here implies you are a teacher in the MDUSD and that you infer it is at a high school in our district … I am concerned because you have made numerous false statements, remember that you said California has always had two languages … hmmm, so what other false information are you providing our youth?

24
2

Your musings about the COnstitution are filled with inaccuracies. When I have time later today, I’ll correct your false assertions. As for what I teach, there are state standards I am required to prepare, so that is what I teach. Of my senior students, 92 were not a “study,” but individuals, 36 applied to a CSU, and 36 were accepted to at least one CSU. For those 36, I bet that is pretty significant 🙂

In California, we must teach the state standards, which I do.

I have my students read the rubbish comment section here, and they do a weekly “Are you kidding me?” current event dispelling the idiocracy they read here.

2
15

“I have my students read the rubbish comment section here, and they do a weekly “Are you kidding me?” current event dispelling the idiocracy they read here”.
*
Sounds like you are running your own opinionated, left wing, brain training operation in a public school classroom.
*
I’d like to encourage your students to anonymously post some of their weekly “dispelling of the idiocracy they read here” to enlighten us.

10
5

They do post some of them on here in there free time after school, and it makes you all blow up.

It is good practice for them to produce sound arguments.

1
12

When will they start doing that?

4
1

I teach students across the entire political spectrum. They have respectful discourse in class and disagree like adults. It is refreshing.

1
13

I will wait for you to point out my inaccuracies … this oughta be fun to watch/read.

As for your 36 accepted to a CSU, to be honest when I originally read that I thought you meant a UC, not a State University. I mean, getting into Sacramento or San Francisco State is really hard these days. Insert sarcasm.

As for your comment about the last time your constitutional knowledge was challenged, that’s cute. I noticed you have still not addressed the official language of California that you misspoke about last week. Funny, I would have thought someone as well versed as you would not make such a simple mistake.

As for teaching a child to think critically, you might want to consider teaching facts and not your opinions or misinformation (back to the official language of California) cause it is hard to think critically when the teacher provides incorrect information.

10

MDUSD Teacher,
.
What do your students think about the “rubbish” that you post here when you have them do a weekly “Are you kidding me?” current events assignment dispelling your idiocracy that they read here?
.
You previously stated that your students political views are across the political spectrum and they have adult conversations about their political views in class. If that’s true, then some portion of or all of your students would agree with the comments here. Should you really be calling the political viewpoints of your students “rubbish” and naming your current events assignment “Are you kidding me?”, thereby implying some of your students have an unacceptable political viewpoint. By doing so, you’re influencing your students viewpoints, encouraging and teaching them to think like you, and not teaching them how to think. You’re not doing a good job of hiding your political views here, where you’ve admitted you have your students read comments in class and some students respond to comments on their free time, and it’s seriously doubtful that you’re able to hide your political ideology in class or while on school grounds.

12
1

future?in what reality?and “democrat leadership” is an oxymoron.

4
7

“the next liberal administration” LoL!
Maybe in the distant future ……. say maybe in the year 802,701 the Eloi Democrats will elect a left wing Morlock to ring the dinner bell.

2
3

Sorry, Biden’s proposal to tweak Title IX to officially allow biological males to compete in sports with biological females will NEVER be considered centrist by anyone with a healthy brain cell. Fortunately, the celebrated outcome of the 2024 election got in his way.

12

MDUSD Teacher,
.
So, you’re saying President Trump has overreacted and moved too far to the right as a result of President Biden having moved too far to the left.
.
Didn’t President Obama expand presidential power when he created DACA? As he admitted he didn’t have that constitutional power in the years prior to creating DACA.
.
You previously stated that President Obama expanded presidential power when he took military action in Libya without Congressional approval, but his Administration used the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) which was passed by Congress. President George W. Bush, President Barack Obama, President Donald Trump, President Joe Biden, and President Donald Trump have all continued to use the AUMF to take military action in foreign countries.

17

Another whiny teacher. Teach kids to read, write, and do arithmetic instead of the garbage y’all think is important.

Everyone of you still defending your mistake to elect the MAGA movement will go down in history for handing out country over to the Rich with ties to Russia. You can claim it is fake news and fearmongering all you want. The truth is you know you painted yourselves into a corner and you want to blame anyone but yourselves for your actions. Your Grandfathers would all be disgusted with you. They fought for nothing.

19
86

You’re in the bubble world of the liberal democrats- old hippies- the youth now support Trump!

56
5

The youth support Trump? He lost the youth vote 52% – 46 %. He did make gains, but he still lost the youth vote.

2
20

Trump is trending upwards in every demographic group that is what is important.
America 1st & common sense are on the rise.
Fraud and waste are being exposed & eliminated and that is upsetting Democrats
(ask yourself why?)

6
6

So you haven’t been seeing congressional town halls this week I am guessing…

1
6

Guesswork? Why am I not surprised?

5
2

I assume you’re referring to DeSloppier’s propaganda show? You know – the one where he only took questions that were pre-submitted? I wonder what the vetting process was like for the questions. President Trump stands in front of the press nearly every day with no script or cue cards. Why is DeSloppier such a p***y?

It’s always about CONTROL
.
The party’ line is all that matters

The sky is falling!!! The sky is falling!!!

32
2

”The truth is……”?

Truth implies fact – and you have yet to provide any proof that your statement is nothing more than opinion.

Don’t tell me I want to blame anyone but (ourselves) when you FAIL to acknowledge the FAILURES and LIES of the Biden administration.

Don’t tell us what our grandfathers would do; you know NOTHING about ANY of them.

Go back to your safe space and eating kitty litter. And you might want to increase your meds.

46

Are you saying that anyone who supports DOGE has painted themself into a corner and wants to blame others? If so, your post makes zero sense. And if you’re talking about Musk with ties to Russia, guess you missed it when Musk said they couldn’t afford him. Again, your post makes zero sense.

Shut Up!
I’m tired of this irresponsible talk coming from democrats! Add to this the statement by Congressman Swalwell that blamed Trump for all the airline crashes this year. They’ve become unhinged. They’re in their own bubble and are not hearing what the American people are saying. Most Americans are supportive of Trump now.

55
8

Ok amt is one thing the democrats do well – facts be damned!

9
1

No one is blaming trump for the actual crashes. We are blaming him for cutting jobs and funding at agencies working to avoid them.

7
59

“Trump is President. President Trump is responsible for air safety. All crashes are Trump’s fault”.

  • Eric Swallwell,

Eric is blaming Trump. Nice try, ConcordRez. Your party is either in full TDS mode or Eric is taking his cues from Fang Fang. Now go hang out again on the canal trail behind YVHS.

31
2

@ConcordRez
Just stop it…..you’re blaming him for everything.

18
2

The problem there began way way before Trump became president. Do yourself a favor and turn off the TV.

4
1

57 aviation incidents in Biden’s first month vs 35 in Trump’s. Explain again SLOWLY how this has anything to do with Trump’s cuts to non-safety related administrative positions? Because idiot Swalwell certainly can’t.

ConcordRez,
.
Yet, it doesn’t mean that any job cuts at the FAA had anything to do with jobs working to avoid accidents/collisions or working on safety.

It’s the new narrative from the democrat politicians; just like their old ones. It’s all just another desperate attempt by them to deflect attention away from their feckless inept selves.

No, real estate scams are older than political positions.

Mark, we’re happy, elated, energized and excited. To the point of being giddy and giggly even.

Your party, out quite bluntly, is finished. You guys are doubling down on the idiocy that got you kicked to the curb. So, here’s some advice. CHANGE. We don’t want skin color the main issue of, well, anything. We don’t want dudes in women’s sports or locker rooms. We don’t want to support illegals with our tax dollars before we get our own homeless off the streets. We DO want DOGE exposing ANYONE of misappropriating our tax dollars, period. DJT made promises, we voted for him, he’s keeping his promises. I suggest you join him in this new age of politics, “Say what you’ll do, do what you say”.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. YOU are HERE.

And each pole vaulter in woman’s sports should only have one pole.

Incidentally, in Germany that comment could get my devices confiscated by “the authorities” and possibly lead to my arrest. We need to think long and hard before committing ANY US resources to helping Western Europe defend against the “Russian horde” until they return to supporting Western values.

sounds like the leeches are geting nervous. Been taking money to promote there wasteful agenda and dont want DOGE to find out. Newscums train to nowhere , section 8 is a joke we have one that rents for over 4,000 a month. taxpayers peobably pay 2/3 of it. They have a cadillac suv and 2 Bmws parked there every night. Tough to be pooo in Cali.

“the Administration, led by unelected billionaire and DOGE head Elon Musk”

He ferrets out the malfeasance and reports it. Musk has no authority to order any actions be taken.

Mark, please introduce a bill requiring term limits for Congress. When you write it, set the limit = to your current term. You ridiculous liberals just don’t get it. The people voted and CLEARLY voiced what they wanted to be done. Keep blindly rebelling and ensure a Republican win in four years! Please keep it going!! They are just a bunch of blind morons!!

You’re going to be primaried out for attempting to appease the MINORITY! Buh-bye!

As a life long politician, you sure know how to stoke the fire against conservative politics.
please provide 5 bullet points on what you have done in the past week to eliminate wasteful government spending.

I’m not scared at all. About time the government stops acting like they are doing us a favor by throwing money at stupid causes.
