IndeFENCEible! Concord’s $61,704 Picket Nightmare Undergoing Repairs Again After Being Struck By Vehicle

The City of Concord’s $61,704 fence that was built in 2011 that surrounds the completely empty property on Galindo between Clayton Road & Concord Boulevard took another hit this week during a vehicle collision. It’s been up for 14 years, and has probably been hit at least once a month since 2011. It’s being “repaired” again today. The City has probably paid another $60K just to repair it in the past 14 years.

Why is there a fence there? It’s a complete waste of money. The people running into should pay to repair it.

But they would need to deduct money from peoples welfare checks to cover it,are you alright with getting less?

Seriously, what is the point of the fence? An occasional low budget amusement area with down trodden ponies and a bouncey house? Affordable housing is an issue this city needs to solve, and there could be a lot of good done on that lot. If you want to put your taxes into the city, put them toward something that will benefit it.

Nothing wrong with the fence, fix the issue with the traffic which is making the problem.

Slow Learning Curve from the Government…That’s a surprise…

Three sureties in life. Okay four.
Death, taxes, presidents wearing Barbie makeup
and The Mayor absolutely hates that fence!
And Reinbear. So five. 😊

This is why every city needs a DOGE department.

They should just take down the fence and let the homeless camp out there! It is Concord, right? – (them’s jokes for the comically impaired)

Build bridges not fences.

If there was no fence, the lot would be regularly dumped on. How much would a decade plus of bulk waste disposal cost per trip to the dump?

At this point why don’t they just put some industrial strength boxing ring ropes instead of fencing or those sand filled cans!

Is low income house still planned for this site? The newly or about to be completed Rick Judd Commons with 62 affordable units is two or three blocks from this lot.
.
In 2019 AvalonBay Communities wanted to buy the lot from the city and to build 310 market-rate apartments there. The city council rejected that plan and since then it appears not a single developer has expressed an interest in building something that meets the city’s demands such as using local union labor, that it be low income or affordable, etc. Apparently the city can’t stomach developing the site itself and so it languishes other than the picket fence and sometimes it’s rented for events such as a Christmas tree “farm.”
