The annual Thaipusam Walk 2025 (sometimes referred to as the Concord Temple Walk) took place this morning/afternoon, with thousands of people in attendance.

The walk was organized by the Concord Shiva Murugan Temple.

The Thaipusam is a festival dedicated to Lord Murugan who is believed to possess the invincible spear (Vel). On Thaipusam day, Goddess Parvathi gave Lord Murugan the Vel and he used it to destroy the army of demons. This festival signifies the victory of good over evil.

The Concord Shiva Murugan Temple organized the walk to the temple along two popular Bay Area trails to celebrate Thaipusam. The first is a longer 21 mile walk route starting from Bishop Ranch 15, San Ramon. The second is a shorter 7 mile walk route starting from Heather Farm Park in Walnut Creek.

There were safety monitors and occasionally police assisting at the various trail crossings.

They pass by here every year on the trail behind our house. I love the beautiful colors the women wear and all of the happy sounds of families and their kids. Glad they had a beautiful sunny day for the walk.

Unfortunately the struggle of good vs evil continues, regardless of anyone’s
magic spear.
