The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.
The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday in the noon hour.
Many people in California are being told they’re going to have to pay a lot more, or they’re being told their homeowners/renters insurance is being cancelled for one reason or another.
QUESTION: Have you (or has someone you know) had any problems with your homeowners/renters insurance company?
Talk about it….
Still have our Insurance, … same for the last 47+ years.
But of course, has jumped in price over the past 4 years by 20%.
Very very good topic yes me and my landlord are working on that together with a home insurance due to the leak that came from above me.
A co worker lost his condo in a fire; he didn’t have a lawyer and lost his case.
the in law lost the house in a Malibu fire, they and theirs neighbors got great lawyers to fought the southern Edison electric and got great settlement.
Yes I have, and now everyone in California will.
The underwriting risks have gone exponential.
Those companies willing to write policies in California will mitigate their underwriting risk with exorbitant rates.
And those rates, like inflation, will not be transitory.
Long time State Farm customer. Very happy with their service and very sympathetic to their situation. Insurance companies have been unfairly attacked for a long time. Our current state insurance commissioner, Ricardo Laura, is a disaster.
The fact that so many insurance companies are getting out of California or cutting back on new policies should be a wake up call next election. Maybe the insurance companies will do what the retailers did and get an initiative on the ballot? Tougher sentences for insurance fraud and making insurance tax deductible would be a winner I think.
Dropped by CSAA last July. 35 years and not 1 claim.
Now on a California Fair policy with another policy to cover my homes contents.
Getting ready to list the place in April.
Goodbye Lafayette!
YES. State Farm is not a good neighbor.
In January of 2023, a pipe in our home burst and it took us about a week to find the source of the leak. By the time it was found and repaired, it had done A LOT of damage. Mold everywhere. Filed a claim with S.F in late Jan/early Feb. They did all their inspections and did say that we had a claim, due to the damage. They said they were going to relocate us and get the ball rolling to get everything repaired.
Then they ghosted us for about 3 months. All while myself, my parents, and my infant ( we all have Asthma) were being subjected to toxic amounts of mold. Finally in April of 2023 we were relocated to a hotel.
That became it’s own disaster in itself, not necessarily tied to S.F. BUT none the less, we still had to move rooms in the hotel 3 times and then eventually had to move to an entirely different Hotel because the first one was having sewer gas leaks. By the time May had rolled around we had finally settled into a ridiculously expensive hotel in Walnut Creek, and we were told there was plenty in our housing budget to get us by for a bit. upwards of 200,000k.
Now back to the house, EVERY SINGLE STEP was delayed. The demo/abatement was stalled for a month or so. I believe by July the abatement was finally finished.
Then we were completely GHOSTED by S.F for about 3 months. Despite calls being made everyday, leaving countless voicemails.
We did hear from the housing people though, just for them to tell us that our housing budget was running low. So, we moved to different rooms in the same hotel about 3 times, trying to stretch what little was left of our budget. Despite us asking for an apartment as it would have been a lot cheaper than the 1200/night hotel. They couldn’t accommodate that unless it was approved by S.F. (who was still ignoring us).
By late September/ October our budget was gone and we called every person we could think of, FINALLY someone got back to us from S.F. These mfs tried to tell us there was nothing they could do and the house was just sitting torn apart after the abatement.
We complained to a supervisor about the housing problem and the fact that there was no movement on our house being rebuilt.
Reluctantly, S.F agreed to extend our housing and FINALLY find us an apartment BUT that was based on a project completion date given by the 3rd party contractor(who im pretty sure was a drunk) and that date was Jan 2024. So, before even moving into our apartment (Oct 2023) We had a set eviction date of Jan 2024.
Time went on, house stills at empty and untouched. Calls to S.F went ignored and unanswered. Of course January rolls around and housing people are gearing to evict us even though we had no where to go. They basically said not their problem
Myself (28yr), my infant son( 1.5yr) my father (60y) and my disabled Mother (55y) are faced with homelessness in the dead of winter. My grandmother had an old RV that we moved into and lived in, parked in the street in front of my useless house. For not 1 month BUT 6 MONTHS.
The drunken contractor was the one who told us and S.F. our house would be done towards the end of Jan 2024. This was coming from the guy who we witnessed on our Ring camera STUMBLING on our porch HOURS after an inspection and who was passed out behind the RV/ In front of our house in his truck, engine on, for hours after that inspection. We complained to the contractor they finally got us a new manager. Which delayed the process even LONGER. They did not start rebuilding our house until late Feb Early March. Then of course, a little hiccup would occur and it would be delayed months. This happened on and off. By June, they had a bathroom and a kitchen in and the contactor did an AWFUL job, they screwed everything up. My family said screw it and we moved back in. the 100 degree days were starting and the AC in the camper kept tripping. We finished the last of the repairs ourselves.
Long story short, State Farm left us homeless and screwed us over. There is NO good reason that it should have taken over a YEAR to get us back home.
If you have STATE FARM, find another insurance company. THEY ARE CROOKS.
I will being praying for all of the State Farm policy holders that are impacted by these fires. State Farm does not give a c$$p about their “neighbors” they are nothing but dollar signs to them. They are evil.
FYI..praying apparently doesn’t work and that’s pretty obvious.
The Cal Fair Plan will soon be the dominant provider. In other words, a state owned provider will have a monopoly because of the failed policies of said state.
And if you thought their rates were high now, wait until more private insurers leave the state in the aftermath of the LA fires.
