If you cross the bridges in the Bay Area, the toll just went up to $8.

The toll increased to $8 on Jan.1 on all bridges except the Golden Gate, which is currently $9.25.

Ridiculous …. more of our $$ siphoned off to pay for Newscum’s cronies pet projects… bridges were paid for decades ago & the maintenance costs can’t be what they’re raking in everyday

Right? And where did all the money go that they are saving from not having toll takers? Employees and benefits are a huge chunk of a business expenses. It seems like the cost of tolls should have gone down – not up. If you never believed we were getting screwed, maybe this will convince you. Start voting incumbents outta here and hold them accountable. I’m probably too old to see any change but I hope our kids will wake up.

Just another way to keep the government’s boot on your neck. Can’t have you any freedom or living in a functional society. They are the masters and you are the serfs. How much longer should they be allowed to keep this up?

Let me get this straight. I pay $8, plus fuel, plus insurance (I’m a legal citizen), endure ridiculous amounts traffic, all to go to a city where they encourage homelessness, drug addiction, stealing, and defecating on the streets and sidewalks? Then, if I’m lucky, my vehicles windows won’t be smashed, contents taken, and, well, my vehicle will actually be where I left it?

Sign me up.

I guess the bonus would be if there was a protest or a sideshow closing the bridge.

$160 tolls plus the gas at $60-$120 (of which you already pay for the roads with) per week for the privilege to go to work. “Sounds great Gov!!!” (sarcasm) we don’t have a money problem…we have a spending problem.

Wait until you hear about California’s plan for digital license plates.
Gross.

Ooooooo! I am going to make mine say bad words!

Do we all have to get new cars for that? A lot of their thinking is as out-of-touch and stupid as that! Granted the yearly pain of dealing with tabs or worrying about people stealing them or the plates could be solved by digital scan codes though that might be a bit sci-fi but where are we these days?

I feel for the people that live in Vallejo and Benicia that have to commute to Martinez or Concord..that’s $160 per month just for bridge!
Add to that gas.
For those who live in Contra Costa and have to go to San Francisco, this makes BART very attractive.

Well, the problem is that BART is not very attractive. I commuted Concord-Oakland roundtrip for over 20 years before the lockdowns (then went to a fully remote job). The two times I decided to ride BART again vs. driving, it was so much worse than before (and there was a definitive safety issue on one of those trips). Maybe it’s gotten better since I last boarded?

And where does all money go?
Approximately 260,00 cross the Bay Bridge each day, and pay a toll to do so.
Wherevdoes all that money go???
Is it any wonder that more and more and more people are losing all trust and faith in democrat government?

Why only $8.00 ?
Why not $12.00 or $20.00 ?
Why not $50.00 ?
If you’re going to openly fleece the public why not go for it ?
It’s not like we don’t know we’re being ripped off.

boiling the frog… the frog doesn’t know he is getting cooked if the water warms up slowly.

And our commuting costs aren’t deductible!
Commuting costs are a legitimate cost of doing business (earning a paycheque) and should be deductible.

… .and don’t forget .. the politicians in California have exempted themselves from paying the bridge tolls ..Either they are driving a government car or they get their fastrak covered by an approved expense …. They don’t care how high it goes because they don’t pay it. When will you all start voting them out?

I traveled the Benicia Bridge on the way to visit family up North with cash in hand for the toll taker. Okay, call me behind the times, but apparently there are no longer human beings occupying tollbooths. I kept on driving and recieved a bill about a month later. No thanks, into the trash bin you go. We have no contract and I have no prior commitment to drive now, pay later. The mistletoe is in my back pocket.

Could be worse. Could charge both ways. Probably will.
