King tides have led to flooding at the Martinez Marina and surrounding area. North Court Street is closed at Tarantino Drive, and Tarantino Drive is also closed. Please do not drive or park in the area. South-bound lanes are open only to allow for vehicles to leave the area and for emergency access. These roads are anticipated to be closed until sometime Monday, please do not cross the barriers.

The water at the marina is a mix of saltwater from the bay, and freshwater from the delta. Any amount of salt is not good for a car, it will rapidly cause corrosion and rust. Anybody that has their car parked in the area of the flood, should thoroughly wash the undercarriage.
Salt can accumulate in tiny crevices and may go unnoticed until it’s too late. A car
wash that has an undercarriage spray is a good option to wash away the salt. If any
salt water leaks into the interior, clean and dry the carpeting, and any of the upholstery
that may have gotten wet to help prevent mildew from forming. In some cases, the
carpeting will need to be lifted in order to clean the floorboard.

You gotta wonder.. who parks there with prior warnings NOT to because King tide flooding was expected yet there they are and that lot was empty before it flooded. Darwin award!

Back in the day we had Queen Tides.
Kids and I knew the next five or so days
were gonna be rough.
We abided.
I make fun, but I have empathy.
Can’t speak for the kids.😝

… and the City of Martinez is offering free parking in the downtown area? Mmm…

That’s Fantastic! made me laugh out loud!

I drove through some brackish water near the river once, about 18″ deep, a week later my very expensive gear reduction aftermarket starter stopped working, being professional automotive technician I of course toke it apart, it was full of corrosion and mucky salt foam, anyone else would have thrown it away but I managed to fix it, morale of the story drive through high water.

Years ago my wife and I took the Zepher train from Martinez to Reno. I parked my truck at the old Martinez train station and it started to rain. Rain was coming down pretty hard as we left the station. The train ride up into the mountains was awesome. The rain turned to heavy snow. When we got to Reno it was still snowing. We checked in at the Silver Legacy and started to unpack our suitcase. I turned on the TV and put on the local news. They were covering the storm. They even had live video of flooding in Martinez. The camera pans over to the Martinez train station parking lot and the only vehicle in the lot was our truck parked in two feet of water. Couldn’t do much about it then.

Please be aware of the trip hazard flounder present in flooded parking lots.

Flounder are more of a slip and fall hazard due to the flat profile. Now a sturgeon would be a trip hazard if there were any left.
