9pm riding a bike in the slow lane of a freeway… something is not right.

242 is a freeway, not a bicycle lane. Even at that, it is dark and cars are going 80 mph.

Bike on 242? Impairment ruled out? Maybe of the driver of the Yukon, probably not the cyclist ….. that area is known for that type though

calling it a slow lane implies the existence of a fast lane

The bike crowd at it again. Thinking they belong everywhere. Not sure how the heck you are going to see that on the freeway.

It is not only the homeless bike crowd. I have, more than once, come close to hitting a bicyclist (the Lance Armstrong wannabes), because they come flying down the road and do not respect stop signs, they make illegal turns, they go all over road lanes, they don’t check around for pedestrians, cars, bicyclists.
As much as I wish it were not true, these roads are not pedestrian nor bicyclist friendly….period! We are nothing like European or Asian countries.

.
Unfortunately, the death of this bicyclist on a FREEWAY will be be used by bicycle interested groups in statistics against motor vehicle owners/drivers.
.
It’s the same with pedestrian deaths where the pedestrian was negligent (wearing ear buds, jaywalking, etc.) or walking/crossing a restricted access roadway.
.
So whenever you hear these types of statistics always ask what data is included or excluded. Accept nothing at face value. Circumstances matter!!!

That ain’t no where or how to die.
I wanna die on an actual interstate.
Driving something too expensive, too fast.
But a bicycle on 242 is just pathetic.
Probably a Meth-ican on a stolen bike.

So, you wanna die a la James Dean, I take.

Between getting dark early and being dark for a lot of the day, when it rains. Blinding oncoming headlights. Pedestrians who cross wherever they want while dressed in all black. Tailgaters. People driving too slow or too fast. The rain. Reduce field of visibility due to the weather.
I count myself lucky getting to and from without a hiccup.
Everyone is nuts and all over the place.
This is when there should be more PD, CHP, Sheriff presence.

Precisely why it is illegal to ride a bicycle on a freeway-it’s dangerous. No boo-hoos necessary.

That was my old friend in junior high school. We went to glenbrook together, she always had a smile on her face. Was always cool with everyone. That part of the on ramp is scary. Ive almost been hit a few times as a kid going from the park to home just walking. To be honest it’s an overpass that leads on to the freeway. So please refrain from talking down on someone. How about yall walk across that crosswalk and see for yourself how dangerous it is. She had a beautiful heart. It sucks that it had to be her.. until we meet again my friend ❤️🕊️ rip
