Concord City Councilman Edi Birsan appears to have retained his seat on the council by 4 votes. 100% of the precincts are reporting that Birsan beat challengers Pablo Benavente, Myles Burkes and Matthew Dashner.
Snickerdad,

Mayor Edi Birsan seems to be doing about 10% worse than Councilmember Laura Hoffmeister”s winning percentage in 2022, 10% worse than former Councilmember Tim McGallian’s losing percentage in 2022, and about 10% worse than Councilmember Carlyn Obringer’s winning percentage in 2020.

Only 7% of the population of Concord voted for our mayor?
Mojoduck Applegate,
.
While Concord’s voters aren’t able to directly vote for and elect the Mayor of Concord, voters of one District are always able to vote for the sitting Mayor to serve as a City Councilmember, who may be reselected to serve as the Mayor of Concord by the rest of the Concord City Council.
J to the C,
.
Mayor Edi Birsan’s current vote total consists of about 2% of the population of the City of Concord and about 10% of the population of Concord City Council District 4, but since the entire population of the City of Concord and Concord City Council District 4 aren’t voters, his vote percentage among voters is significantly higher.
That’s because ALL Concord citizens got to vote for Council members. I even called the City Clerk to ask why I didn’t get a ballot for anyone running on for Council. They couldn’t answer the question.
I went to Martinez elections dept. She said I wasn’t in a district in Concord that had anyone running. That’s a crock!!!
ALL council members vote on all agenda’s (unless their absent) So WHY doesn’t EVERY Concord resident get to vote (one way or the other) for any and all council members??
Funny how my street runs from Monument to David Ave. My (or just me) part of the street didn’t vote but on the other end of my street they had signs all over their front yard, WT….!
City_guy,

Why? We don’t have a 50%+1 vote system to be elected to the Concord City Council. You want the City of Concord to spend tens of thousands of dollars so fewer than 10% of the population of the City of Concord in Concord City Council District 4 can revote because you don’t like the results when all the votes are likely not counted yet.
No Excuses,
.
No, Contra Costa County is still counting votes. As of 3:25:03 p.m. yesterday, Contra Costa County still had 84,200 ballots left to count countywide. Counting for this race can continue until December 06, 2024.
This means that almost 70% of people didn’t want him back.

The job of Mayor in Concord is ceremonial.
A professional City Manager actually runs the Day to Day operations of the City.

I meant to say NOT ALL Concord residence got to vote for any council members.
We need a revote with just the two of them.

Is Pablo calling for a recount?

It’s likely that all votes aren’t yet counted.
Fast Edi needs to go. The guy does no good for Concord and is only in it for personal gain.
Jim C,

While Mayor Edi Birsan needs to go, Pablo Benevente is definitely not the answer!!! He’s Edi Birsan on steroids!!!
We need to vote for a strong mayor city government. Having 5 unaccountable fools just ain’t working out
You go Edi. 😁
Well, partial thanks to my idiot husband for not voting. I wonder how many like him just didn’t fill out their ballot.
Or how many didn’t get to vote for anyone even though they’ve lived in Concord for almost 70 years, Dah!
This is not over, Votes are not all counted. They will resume counting on Friday, Nov 8.
David,

Thanks for the information.

Oh for pete’s sake. That’s ridiculously slow. Thank you, Black Knight. I didn’t notice that info.

According to the California Secretary of State’s office, the next update by Contra Costa County is expected on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the latest County count earlier today, Birsan lost by 89 votes.
