Californians voted down the proposition that would have raised the state’s minimum wage.
Prop.32 would have raised California’s minimum wage to $18 an hour effective in 2025 for employers of more than 25 people and effective in 2026 for others.
Right now, the state’s minimum wage is $16 an hour. It’s $20 for workers at fast-food restaurants with more than 60 locations nationwide.

simply economics…. if the pay goes up the price goes up and usually disproportionate to the wage. You could make $500 per hr. but the cheeseburger would cost $575. Minimum wage jobs are work experience not living wages. I started at $3.35, it put gas in my car and some money for teenage entertainment…it would never support a living.
I agree. My first job was at a pizza place when I was 14.5 years old making $1.10/hr. I have been a contributing member of the workforce ever since Contribution not only of my time, enery, and talents, but of the money that is withdrawn from my monthly paycheck that goes toward the assistance of others who may or may not need it.
I may be considered middle class, but we are hurtin’ for money and skimping on essentials.

It’s a WordPress driven site and the comments plugin is a WP plugin. The default should be word wrap as well as blank line (just a carriage return) should break up paragraphs. I also posted a set of sentences intended to be a bullet point list which is available from the menu but they don’t work either. In some cases it may be that I’m using Firefox but the emojis don’t work either but they do if I switch to Chrome. It may also be that I’m using Linux instead of Windoze.

Sometimes programmers of plugins use poorly worded labels for settings and can confuse non-programmers when configuring it.

Minimum Wage mandates need to have Defined Special lower rates for minor students, part time, and trainee categories. The businesses that hire “Special” category Adults might stop helping them, even with the kick-back taxes from the State. No high-school student should get equal to $37K/year working at JC Penny or McD’s part-time after school and week-ends. Already, the minimum wage and business shut-downs has put school kids on the street with no job, no training, nothing to do but get into trouble.
Doesn’t that actually allow a business a chance?
Let the Market determine the wages, not the government.

Sure, this proposition was voted down, but unfortunately, there are other propositions, like 2 and 4 that passed. The government needs to stop constantly asking for money and start working with what they have. The budget is out of control because they focus on what they are going to get rather than what they have. Lack of budgeting.
I don’t get it. The democrat politicians keep saying that there abundant jobs, the economy is in great shape and the historically high inflation has been reduced and conquered. Why then do they keep pushing a minimum wage increases?
Minimum wage jobs are almost all entry level jobs that require minimal if any skills. People should be paid based on their contributions to the business. The minimum wage should be eliminated.

Many years ago on Thom Hartmann’s site discussed the minimum wage and how many had not only a minimum wage paying job (often in the 1960s) but then could afford a nice apartment, one bought a sports car and many still had expendable income to dine out, go to movies, concerts and even do air travel.

What has happen was an intentional agenda to destroy the US economy and very essential in this has been the raising of the minimum wage. The problem is not the wage rates but how out-of-balance our economy is. I probably raise hackles here when I say that the US standard of living is three times what it should be. That doesn’t mean poverty for the masses, it just brings the economy back into sanity.

Otherwise, the “elite” (some of the wealthiest and corporate owners) want is a two tier social order, IOW the same thing as a feudal state. We’ve spent too many centuries of moving away such insanity and we should not tolerate it now. Wealthy people are often just materialistic with no soul. But it doesn’t need a neo-Marxist coup to solve it just some fair and reasonable effort.

As for me in high school while school mates worked in after school jobs (often farm jobs where I was from) I instead made my money playing in musical groups on the weekends which paid far more than minimum wage.
