Bay Area drivers who cross the Bay Bridge or any of the region’s six other state-owned toll bridges could be paying $8.50 by January 2026 — and as much as $11.50 by 2030, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The Bay Area Toll Authority proposed the new series of toll increases on Wednesday.

If they just built a simple causeway to Treasure Island it would’ve saved taxpayers 100 of millions of dollars in construction costs. Additionally, we would’ve saved millions in maintenance not having to paint cables and towers. You can thank Willie and Jerry Brown for this waste of taxpayers money!

Doesn’t some of the tolls go to support the bay ferries? Or other things beside bridge mtc?

Regional Measure 3 (the increase from $5 to $8 toll) was used to cover may projects including ferries, BART, interchange improvements and others.

Yes, but ferry traffic is a fraction of what it used to be. It’s not like BART where it moves hundreds of thousands of people per day. Politicians use tolls like a broken piggy bank. Let’s see an audit of how much it really takes to maintain the bridge(s).

Trying to get people to stay home. What a joke

Is BART behind this, trying to boost their ridership?

And more people will cheat and not pay tolls like they have been doing for decades and the bridge toll authority still can’t figure out how to stop them from doing it.

Imagine if they actually collected the money from the cheaters … or went after people with invalid registration …. wonder if we would have a surplus in funds again?

But nope! Let’s raise the money on the people who are actually following the rules by paying toll and keeping their vehicles registered so that those people can pay for the IDIOTS who are too cheap to do so.

…. and the $$ is being siphoned off to fund other non-vehicle projects? like gas taxes aren’t being used for road maintenance / improvements… siphoned off to other pwt projects on Newscum’s probably

I’m glad for all the toll booth workers who will be soon getting a raise and better benefits thanks to the toll fee increases.
(Yes, sarcasm. I know there are no toll booth workers)
The Bay Area Toll Authority and the acronym Bata (Buy and throw away). They are sure throwing our money away.

Payroll is the highest cost for any business. Now that there are no toll takers anywhere, how much money are they saving and where did it all of THAT money go? This is more typical tax and spend.

@Works925
How does one cheat the bridge tolls and not have to pay? Asking for a friend…

I suspect we are only a couple years from every lane being a fastrack lane, where we’ll have to pay $1 during light traffic and $13 during rush hour to drive from Livorna to Alcosta.

Texas already has these in many areas no one gripes about the toll roads.

And the polls are actually used to maintain those roads . They’re not siphoned off to pet projects.

Of course, the Texas legislature is only part-time.

Yep and gas taxes won’t go down when they do that either. It’s only a matter of time before they take all of our money and give it back to us as they see fit. Luckily I’m old and probably won’t ever see this – but kids today are going to be screwed of they keep putting up with and voting for this .

We are living in a democrat-controlled dystopia!

The state Democrat government is truly just a bunch of soulless thieves.

The voters have clearly not had enough. Might as well make it $50 toll, each way.

You can count on the state raising all fees, registrations, tolls, fares and taxes to cover the INSANE spending that has been the Hallmark of California politicians for at least 4 decades. San Francisco
and Oakland are on the verge of economic collapse, which is going to play out very soon. Wokism
is the final nail-everywhere it dominated, the cities headed down the tube financially.

Prediction…after 2030, they start toll collection both directions.

Remember that, when the votes were taken years ago about raising tolls, most of the pro votes came from the SF Peninsula (who don’t use the bay bridge). Most of the anti votes came from the East Bay (who DO use the bay bridge).
