Prescribed Burns Planned For Mount Diablo State Park

by CLAYCORD.com

Mount Diablo State Park plans to conduct prescribed burns on one or more days between October 28 and December 13. The final choice of dates depends on variables including weather and smoke dispersal conditions.

Join them at an Open House on October 18 for a discussion about keeping our wildlands healthy using prescribed burning and other treatments. Staff will be available to answer your questions. Drop in at Mitchell Canyon, 91 Mitchell Canyon Road between 5:30pm and 6:30pm.

These fall season burns will cover up to 104 acres within the Mitchell Canyon area at Mount Diablo State Park. These treatments aim to enhance grassland habitats by promoting success of fire-adapted native plants, reducing woody vegetation encroaching on grasslands, and returning nutrients to the soil.
