On Wednesday October 2 at 5:30pm the Martinez City Council will hold a workshop on potential updates to parking technology and parking rates in the downtown area. Last year, Martinez was awarded a $1.27 million grant from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission to fund a comprehensive update to the parking infrastructure in the downtown area, including meters/kiosks and wayfinding signage. The City Council will hold an initial discussion on parking technology options and on how the City’s existing parking rates compare with other jurisdictions.
The public is invited to attend the workshop in person or online and voice their opinion on what direction the City should take with this opportunity to invest in the downtown. For more details and the virtual meeting link, please view the meeting agenda at www.cityofmartinez.org/meetings
Aka Price increases…. and worse parking incoming.
Whatever the outcome, parking will be more expensive with fewer spaces available.
The public’s input is a formality.
The decisions have already been made.
Your government in action.
What does it really mean when you cut through the BS? – It will cost more to park, and parking tickets will be more expensive. Way to government. Make it harder and more expensive for people to get out, enjoy themselves, and patronize local(already struggling) businesses.
These people want to make Martinez into Walnut Creek. Too bad. Martinez is one of the few places in the Bay that still retains its sense of history and working class roots. Have fun with your expensive parking and racial task force. I’m out.
Parking meters chase away potential customers. Concord did it right by building 2 free parking garages.
Those garages in Concord are just toilets for the homeless. The newer one by Skipolini’s is a bit better than the older one but not by much
Will they be painting any slogans on the parking space… They have liked that approach in the past..???
The first change that Martinez should make is to have a parking lot that is dedicated to jurists. Perform your civic duty and get a parking ticket is not ideal.
I have learned that the county and the city have spared in the past as to who should be supplying parking space or garages for jurors. I think the county should. Let’s keep Martinez interesting.
They should also make public transportation to the courthouse convenient for the region that the jury pool comes from. A few years ago I received a jury summons and so took a look to see if I could take public transportation. It turned out I would need to leave the house at 4:30am to BART from Walnut Creek to Richmond and then to bus over to Martinez. There were no busses from WC or PH BART to the courthouse area that arrived by the check-in time for the jury pool group I was in. I ended up driving, parking, waiting…, and then my jury pool was excused without us ever seeing a courtroom…
I was called twice to WC. There is little parking there especially at the court house. The judge told us that the public rejected bond propositions to solve the problem. Martinez used to allow jurors to put a card that came with the summons to put under the windshield for free parking on the streets. The state rule on jury duty is 70 and older exempt but CC doesn’t follow this.
You dont get parking tickets for jurors if you park on the street at the meters, you have to leave your juror card on the dash, i recenetly did this and didnt get any tickets over a week long jury duty.
There is only one business that I would patronize there and that slowhand barbecue and they have their own parking lot out back, there’s not another business in that whole area that I would even go to or want to try and find a parking place much less pay for one.
That parking lot is still a paid lot though. Pleasant hill slowhand has free parking.
Small Claims Court is 1-5 PM. The meters are only 2 hours long. Attendees do not control the schedule.
I have no idea of the family court schedule. Martinez needs a bigger garage.
