Cowellian’s first.
Our dog has had her pill.
😁
of relevance (and probably interest) to nobody, but a fair amount of wine (a whole bottle of TJs ruby port) is leading me to introduce the following topic: I am now unable to count off the days (months/years more appropriate) to my retirement as it has made my wife anxious, since she would retire after me.\, but darn it, except for the age, I am d#%m ready. I know a few of my fellow Claycordians, who I enjoy reading posts from, are, and let me state for the WGA* record, I am jealous as all get out. I have literally been spending the last several months seeing if I could afford to.
Retirement is a love/hate thing. Love all the free time. Hate all that free time ~~ if you don’t have the funds to fill the time with the other things you love. (🙄word salad 😬)
I have 50 months and two days, so I’ll be looking to you bubba. Just shutting off work after 45 years of going to work every day…bet that’s a lot easier said than done. We’ll see. Damned if I’m dying at work though.
You’ll enjoy retirement, but free time has a way of getting filled.
Do miss some former coworkers who took their portable skill sets and moved out of California.
Worked 45 years, was fun to people watch, last 30 were incredibly fun.
Little secret, whenever Wife mentions something quietly make things happen for her even more than you were working. Washing machine, stainless cook top hood, couple ceiling fans and a dishwasher . . . . . so far.
Happy Wife, Happy Retired Life.
.
In mean time, it’s good to have you back.
I am so happy that we took early retirement. If we’d waited until we could actually afford it, we’d probably still be working. The first couple of years, things were very tight, but once I got into the VA system and we started getting Social Security, things got a lot better. We’ve taken some amazing road trips over the past dozen years that have made it all worthwhile.
I do miss a lot of people that I used to work with, but the only job I really miss was going to sea on a submarine.
I’m retiring at 65 and I’m not saying how far away that is, but it’s not too far down the line. My husband (same age) wants to keep on working. Great. The house to myself! I think we can afford it. I love what I do for a living but there are only so many times you can crank it out all day until you say enough is enough. It’s time…
The Prodigal Thraxx returns.
Consciousness is probably not a computational process. Maybe. Took me all summer to get there.
My favorite Miles Davis work is titled ‘Willie Nelson’. Your mileage will likely vary: https://youtu.be/3fI8c-E7zrw?si=aphJVd2fXMDB83ro
Sure, there’s probably a buncha ways to skin a cat. But if I catch you, I’m taking one of your thumbs.
Mets, if the season ended today, have a wild card spot. And they beat the scurvy Phillies tonight so I’m grinnin’.
I primarily do substation automation for a living. Got really good at it in maybe the last 10-12 years. I’d prefer to play with puppies and kittens every day after a morning at the range, but no one will pay me for any of that. White privilege my a$$.
9X18 Makarov is a bigger bullet than a 9×18 Parabellum, but the case is shorter. In case that comes up on Jeopardy or something.
I bet I could kick Clint Eastwood’s a$$ now. Probably.
Speaking of old, you guys seen Cher lately? Looks 35 at most. Creeping me out.
Made me spit expensive scotch: https://www.amazon.com/Gagster-Kamala-Harris-Toilet-Paper/dp/B08R6TMHRF
In the interest of equal time/crimes: ah I don’t care. There’s no end to Trump toilet paper sites. Weirdos.
You guys ever listen to a Roger Penrose lecture? It’ll make your brain bleed. Here’s a short blast. Staggers me, the intellect on this cat. https://youtu.be/YnXUuyfPK2A?si=Tfbcveb9diA0s4DO
Haven’t owned anything in the AR platform for probably 18 years. Not bragging, but think of the ammo I’ve saved.
Here’s a tip, when you make a homemade burrito, right before you wrap it up, a thin line of honey right along it’s length. Trust me.
If you were gloves when you shoot, I’ll still be polite and helpful as is required by the shooters code, but I’ll never respect you. Same with recoil pads in your jacket, suck it up buttercup.
I don’t care what anyone says, I love the Olympics, especially when the US kicks butt, which is often. As long as the cheatin-a$$ Russians are tested frequently and ruthlessly as is clearly needed.
When I counted last night I came up with 18 humans in orbit around our planet, a record I think.
Also, as far as we know, Mars is still the only plant in the universe entirely habitated by robots.
Prince od’d in an elevator in his mansion. Makes me sad and laugh at the same time. I may die in an elevator, but I probably won’t own it.
I think it should be mandatory that all billionaires visit the Titanic in a super sketchy submarine. As many times as it takes.
A priest and a rabbi, who are old friends, are talking late at night. The priest says, “Tell me, have you ever eaten ham? Be honest.”
The rabbi looks embarrassed and says, “Well, actually, once, years ago, at university, I got curious about the ham sandwiches that my classmates ate, they looked so good, and I had one. But tell me, old friend, since we’re talking, did you ever, you know, with a girl…?”
The priest looks down and says “Well, before I was ordained, I got curious about it, and I… er .. well, there was this…” He tails off and doesn’t finish. There is a long pause.
Then the rabbi says, “It’s better than ham, isn’t it?”
The speed of light is the only truly useful constant in the universe. Maybe the only constant. No, that’s not true. Low blood sugar.
I haven’t been to Concord in a long time. Did you guys ever fix your roads? How about the CNWS? That hasn’t crossed my mind in forever. But why would it?
I don’t know, I still like Concord. Raised a family there. Can’t be mad at that.
That’s 9×19 Parabellum, Atticus – a master like you should know that!
A typo, obviously.
Very good to hear from you!
Caught me with me drawers down Ancient One, you are correct on proper nomenclature. I made the mistake of buying a couple of boxes of Hornady 9X18 Makarov bullets in HP to reload. Fine and dandy, but they feed poorly. Ball ammo and it feeds fine though. Feed ramp was never intended for hollow points. Nice part is I get lots of practice on failure drills. I also only have two mags and one of them is wonky, so that doesn’t help. Bought a couple of Bulgarian surplus online, waiting for them to show. Bored yet?
@Atticus Thraxx ~
Nice you chimed in.
FYI, …. Some roads have been fixed.
Willow Pass from Landana to HWY 4, and now the rest of Willow Pass is on the way.
But for the most part, a lot of the roads still suck.
Tons of meetings on CNWS, but nothing started.
There are at lease 5-6 new tall & huge housing complexes (one hotel) built near downtown.
And, of course, the homeless (unhoused) had grown, but that everywhere.
Otherwise, Concord is still Concord.
Thanks Roz. You rock.
Another version of the priest and rabbi talking. The priest says to the rabbi: When are you going to be openminded enough to try a delicious ham sandwich, and rabbie answers “At your wedding”.
Silly person. 🙂
The new way Claycord is difficult to read. All washed out.
Hard to see.
Hard to read as words are cut in the middle if sentence.
Is anyone else having this problem too?
Yea it looks like sh**.
So you actually CAN see it OK?😲
Old Otis, Maybe if we can all remember to type in BOLD. 👍🏼 We were all much younger and had better eyesight when Mr Mayor got us hooked on CLAYCORD.
Seems to be a half implemented Wordpress comments plugin. I see you figured out how to get emojis to show up but probably using a whole line of HTML. I looked at the docs for the plugin and word wrap must have gotten turned off. Some engineers don’t always know how to label their settings so their customers understand what they do. Even with the previous plugin somebody messed up and turned off paragraph breaks. Also I think the previous comment plugin had a larger font (believe their is an option for that in the new plugin too).
< /br>
Testing 1,2,3:
<img draggable=”false” role=”img” class=”emoji” alt=”https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/15.0.3/svg/1f60e.svg” src=”https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/15.0.3/svg/1f60e.svg”>
Well that doesn’t work anymore!
😁 Must be a Linux thing that emojis don’t work because it is working in Windows (or so it looks like it).
Maybe shift enter for paragraph breaks. Windows key+. (period) for the emojis menu.
I’m probably the only person using Linux here but if anyone else is Chrome does work for emojis. Everything else is like improper word wrap is a setting from the Claycord staff to fix. Please add paragraph breaks too.
Yep, I hate it. The way it was before was MUCH easier to read.
Weird layout for the paragraphs!
Especially that it cut off in the middle of the sentence. Annoying. I like that you can directly apply to a comment.
Can confirm, to the point of annoyance honestly.
I remember something like this before where it was so faded that I had to highlight the words so I could read them.
I’d still like the ability to edit my post, so like when I read it cold sober and can’t believe I posted something so stupid, I can self delete….like that Green Acres post!
I think someone spiked my beer.
This is a perfect example of how it cuts off words. s and then the rest on the next line. That is what I have most problems with.
BTW, we have a free self-driving car service in Martinez now.
Can somebody please explain to me why no one uses their blinker whatsoever anymore? Especially Tesla drivers.
Mayor you know I love you like a half-brother, but this washed out gray text and funky word wrap makes it a tough go. Hopefully it’s only temporary, like this rash I got on my hand after cutting up a sketchy smelling pineapple. Or those points I got from from that very subjective reckless driving infraction. And let me stress the term ‘infraction’. And the term ‘subjective’. I mean everything looks reckless when you’re a cop and you’re driving some hopped up SUV. 😉 .
I’m a little late for this post. On Wednesday I drove to my mechanic, who is located on Monument Blvd. across from the Arco gas station. I entered Monument from 680, after a few blocks I noticed the road was a little rough. obviously some road work going on. So I slowed down a little, then all of sudden there was a big bump, which was hard to see, no signs and it just blended in. After that I looked out for bumps and there were several. Driving back there were orange sign indicating road work, but nothing about bumps. Anyone had the same experience.
P.S. Unfortunately my mechanic is no longer in business, I had no idea he was closing I have been going there for about 8 years, and I trusted him, he was very honest and saved me money whenever he could.

Good stuff there, Original G. I knew them all and have two favorites: the car door (I think we had that exact one), and the Tupperware homemade popsicle sticks and tray. My mom would make those popsicles with Nestle Quik’s chocolate and strawberry flavors. Man, those things just couldn’t get frozen fast enough. 🙂
What seems to be the reason for gas prices going through the roof? Crude oil is down almost $10/bbl, national news claims gas is the cheapest it has been in years, yet prices here are surging.
It appears the Walnut Festival is on this year. It’s curious they didn’t advertise in the WC “Nutshell” newsletter, and there aren’t any banners around town as customary.
Last year they cancelled the festival citing implausible excuses such as climate change or post-bicentennial depression, or some other such nonsense.
The real reason was obviously more foreboding in nature. So what makes this year different? Safer for families? It’s time to be honest with the public.
