Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-10), joined by Representatives Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) and Doris Matsui (CA-07), introduced the Protecting Children with Food Allergies Act (H.R. 9550), a bill that would require training of food personnel in schools on identifying, responding to, and preventing allergic reactions.

“As a senior member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, protecting and supporting students when they are in the care of their schools is among my top priorities, and, with 25% of all first-time allergic reactions happening to children while at school, it’s clear we must do more to keep students safe,” said Congressman DeSaulnier. “As we embark on a new school year, I’m proud to introduce this bill with Representatives Sherrill and Matsui to give schools the tools they need to prevent and treat allergic reactions so every child is safe eating in their school’s cafeteria.”

“Children and teenagers with food allergies should be safe when eating school lunch. That’s why I am proud to co-lead legislation to ensure school food personnel have the education and training necessary to prevent, identify, and respond to food-related allergic reactions. Many New Jerseyans are impacted by food allergies, and this legislation would make much needed investments to ensure all of our kids are happy, healthy, and safe at school,” said Rep. Sherrill.

“Better food allergy education and training empowers everyone,” said FARE CEO Sung Poblete, PhD, RN. “This legislation can help improve every child’s journey, whether an infant whose family embraces early introduction and food allergy prevention they learned about through WIC, or a food-allergic kid whose school cafeteria workers become more careful at lunchtime. Our community is grateful for the leadership of Reps. Mark DeSaulnier and Mikie Sherrill, as well as their staffs, for introducing the House version of the Protecting Children with Food Allergies Act.”

So school will only serve bread and rice as there are so many allergies they cant serve any allergens anymore i guess….
Sounds expensive and time consuming.

That’s an ix-nay on ed-bray stove! Gluten, don’t ya know! White rice and the water it’s cooked in…that’s ok for most kids. Although rice farming is brutal work, so make sure you only buy Union Labeled Rice.

Oh can’t do that….. bread has gluten in wheat and rice has starch, someone might be sensitive. This is just so stupid, stop wasting money for votes. Parents with kids with allergies know what they can eat and what they can’t, also there is a new drug that make food allergies a thing of the past (Xolair) I have been using since 2014 and it is fantastic.

Children wouldn’t have so many allergies if the food wasn’t ultra-processed junk.

Why can’t a portion of each school yard be set aside for a garden? Kids can learn the basics and bring some healthy food to the table as well. Once they’ve had a homegrown tomato they won’t want to go back to the frankenfoods served at the lunch counter.

ugh. Can this guy be more useless as a legislator? He may be the most ineffective Congressman to ever represent this district.

Laws for things nobody cares about just adds to the laughable waste of government. For heaven’s sake, picking up trash on the freeway offers more results than this clown.

Bingo! 100%

WHATEVER,
.
Given the way Congressman Mark DeSaulnier thinks, it’s more than likely a good thing that he’s an ineffective member of Congress.
.
Just be aware that the lying, crooked, corrupt, preacher and Assemblyman Tim Grayson has planned for years to be Congressman Mark DeSaulnier’s replacement in the House of Representatives. He’s much worse!!! Unfortunately, voters will promote Assemblyman Tim Grayson to the California State Senate this November

Oh I’m so glad our congressman spends all his time tackling these urgent issues, as he always does. ( sarcasm )
Honestly he is a waste! He’s not focused on anything that matters to the overwhelming majority of the constituents in his area! Inflation, crime, stability in the world.

Does he just talk to hear himself? Who keeps electing him for office? We need somebody that will actually & really do something? 🙁

He keeps getting elected by the people he solicits for and continues to fund their very high salaries with tax assessments and mandated political ACTS.
Democrats LOVE big government, little serfs.
Roughly 26% of the entire American workforce (more than 1 out of every 4) is (taxpayer) funded.

DOMO,
.
It’s the 67%-79% of 11th District voters who keep putting him back in office every 2 years.
.
If we elected someone else who could really do something in Congress, they likely wouldn’t be doing what you want or like, because 11th District voters will only vote for clones of Mark DeSaulnier.

Be aware that the lying, corrupt, crooked, preacher, and Assemblyman Tim Grayson has planned on replacing Congressman Mark DeSaulnier in the House of Representatives for many years, he’s much worse!!!

…lazy voters not willing to do the research – just plugging in the incumbent saying they fulfilled their civic responsibility

DOMO,
.
Until Republicans start nominating the types of candidates who can actually get elected in the 11th District, then nothing will change! As long as Republicans keep nominating conservative candidates in a progressive-liberal district, they’ll continue to lose by massive margins.
.
Don’t forget that it was Republican voters who elected Mark DeSaulnier to office in the first place, when he spent the first one-third of his political career as a progressive Republican on the Concord City Council and the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors. Those voters created this monster, and they now complain about him!
.
The same thing happened with the lying, cheating, corrupt, preacher, and Assemblyman Tim Grayson when he was elected as a conservative Republican to the Concord City Council, and then he sold his soul, becoming a progressive Democrat to further his political career.

How about protecting the vote, mark? How about protecting the liberties of your constituents? You have proven yourself as useless as, as my dad used to say (edited) “**** on a boar/bowl, etc.” It is 2024, the country is 248 years young, and mark thinks the federal government needs to show people how to make sure a small percentage of people ready in the event of an allergic reaction, and he, genius, thinks a law is necessary. Colossal waste of time. I am sure there is some hand off of some taxpayer cash changing hands somewhere along with this. Ugh

This has done absolutely nothing to help Contra Costa residents. An empty suit doing nothing for his locals. I’m embarrassed to be represented by this guy, but he keeps getting re-elected……

Ridiculous!!!

“Better food allergy education and training empowers everyone,” said FARE CEO Sung Poblete, PhD, RN. This is another case of create the ACT to create the reason to increase taxpayer FUNDING, to create more LEFT voters!
NO ONE prefers to allow a child, or adult, or even any animal to suffer and maybe die from food allergies!
Obviously school buyers, cooks and service workers should be educated~~ BEFORE they are hired.
Does FARE CEO and staff need more taxpayer money?
~~~ Chief Executive Officer jobs at [FARE] Food Allergy Research & Education Inc earn the most with an average annual salary of $769,559, while Fast Food Cook jobs earn the least with an average annual salary of $23,155.
The estimate average salary for Food Allergy Research & Education Inc employees is around $99,415 per year, or the hourly rate of Food Allergy Research & Education Inc rate is $48. The highest earners in the top 75th percentile are paid over $113,794~~ https://www.salary.com/research/company/food-allergy-research-education-inc-salary
Mark is the Nut that kids are allergic to.
Mark should be more concerned about the fried monstrosity that is shown in the photo.
Politicians are like windup toys. Every election year they get wound up and walk around saying things. People with food allergies don’t all have the same set of allergies either. Less processed food for more profit is a good start though.
Nuts!
Maybe Mark should do something to protect children from mutilation.
Interesting timing. A lot of children are allergic to cats.
Obviously the democrat government thinks that parents don’t have the ability to handle their own children’s health issues.
How about the “No pesticides or poisons” in food act?
I’m old enough to remember none of this being anything at all when I was a kid. Nut allergies, gluten, whatever.
Funny how no one has any allergies to ultra processed junk food.
