If I’m not mistaken, that is Walnut Creek, from which the city of Walnut Creek got its name.
Trivia: There is a creek in Pleasant Hill named Murderer’s Creek, it was named because they found an Indian hanging from a tree. It was rumored he stole a horse, and since there wasn’t a courthouse or a jail at the time, they strung him up.
The only place in Contra Costa that had redwood forests was Canyon.
It’s mythology that there was any other locations.
Pacheco Slough did have fishing boat access until the silt hit.
I went to Lowes garden center Concord and asked where are the carts? the woman told me over 100 of the blue flatbed carts have been stolen this year ($1000 ea) by the homeless. sad
“Crews are clearing the weeds from the creek” Mmm … using bulldozers and heavy equipment to remove weeds? Why don’t they just say … we have removed the homeless and now we’re cleaning up the area to help keep the homeless away so that our water ways stay clean.
I work right off Via De Mercados near that overpass. I walk to Trader Joe’s & the Petco 3-4 times a week. I have seen not only trash but turds & whatever else marinating. I am glad they are cleaning it up the wildlife deserves it. Yesterday I was walking by the 6′ drainage inlet where the water is clear & there was a grown man butt naked “showering” with body wash & a whole bathroom setup. Where is Newsum’s money earmarked for the “homeless”? This is beyond unacceptable & time to kick these “leaders” to the curb that have enabled this.

20-some years ago, after or during a nice big rainy week, we’d stand at the 4th floor windows of our office and make bets on how many lawn chairs, empty coolers and such would float by. And that creek really can go as wide as that ‘flat’ and nearly up to Concord Ave bridge! City must have some extra “spend it or lose it grant $$.

Talked to the Regional Park Police Officer and this is part of a 20-year project of cleaning up the sediment from the creeks in the area. What they are currently doing is cleaning the sediment out from over the years in order to divert other water ways into Walnut Creek so they can then clean those. In all they will clean 48 miles of water ways.

Several decades ago they used to do this much more often than they’re doing it now.

I believe that they are making it deeper to hold more water and prevent overflowing onto the street.
saw this this weekend, looks great.
Didn’t they have goats doing this a year or two ago?
The goats OD’ed
RIP

Pacheco creek, had ships coming up there before all silted in “way before my time”

Interesting reading. I didn’t know there was a forest of redwood trees here in central county, or that Walnut Creek was big enough to sail a ship.
The only place in Contra Costa that had redwood forests was Canyon.
It’s mythology that there was any other locations.
Pacheco Slough did have fishing boat access until the silt hit.

From 1851 to nearly 1873, Pacheco was the county’s commercial center: the shipping port for the grain grown in the Ygnacio, San Ramon and Tassajara valleys, with warehouses, a flour mill and shops along the creek. Walnut Creek, (then known as Pacheco Creek), then flowed deep and free into Suisun Bay.
Too bad they don’t hang vagabonds for stealing shopping carts.

Hey that’s great, wouldn’t want Denny’s washed away.
love Denny’s
