Extra patrols from the Concord Police Department will be out on August 19 from 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence (DUI).
Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
No need to patrol wasting gas, just park outside a bar at closing time, and watch for the ones getting into the driver’s seat….easy pickins.
I saw that happen before, big fight in the bar. I was tending bar & we ordered them to take it outside then the cops showed up…. nobody was pressing charges and the problem guys were leaving but one of them was stupid enough to get behind the wheel. They pulled him over instantly, cuffed him and took him to jail in Walnut Creek (about 2 blocks away).
Ain’t that a Monday?
When I lived in Concord years ago, the liquor store I went to would tell customers where the checkpoints were after they found out. You could tell who’d been drinking already by the reactions.
Possibly the greatest liquor store ever!
On a Monday night?
Why is the federal government continuing to put us in further debt to fund these types of programs? It’s time for Congress to give our presidents back the power to impound funds designated for most of these grant programs.
Darn! Mondays are my favorite night of the week to drive drunk.
