The Contra Costa Coroner’s Office has identified the person who was killed Thursday in Walnut Creek when her vehicle crashed into a power pole.

Saniya Banga, 18, of Pittsburg was killed just after 1:07 a.m. when her vehicle crashed into a power pole on Ygnacio Valley Road between Civic Drive and North Broadway and she was ejected from the vehicle.

Banga was pronounced dead at the scene while the passenger in the vehicle suffered serious injuries but is expected to survive, Walnut Creek police said.

The crash caused a power outage but PG&E crews responded and were able to restore power quickly, police said.

Could be … Still sad. So young, so much life ahead of them.

One word for you

Heartless? Maybe with some tough love, she would still be alive.

How very sad for her family….

Fortunate that she did not kill anyone.

It’s been noted that alcohol and speeds between 60-80 mph were contributing factors.

It’s sad when these tragedies can be avoided. I feel for the parents. You try and teach the kids what’s right but they’re going to do what they’re going to do. I had friends go the same way when I was young. It wakes you up for a while but somehow you get convinced you’re different.

Unfortunately, you can only preach ‘wear a seatbelt’ and ‘don’t drink and drive’ so much. People (young or older) are gonna do what they’re gonna do.

Ejected from car. What does that tell you?
