Remember that it was Kamala Harris who named Proposition 47 “The Safe Neighborhood and Schools Act” when she was Cslifornia’s Attorney General . She named it such to trick people into passing it! Trump should have picked Ramaswamy or DeSantis. Most VPs are do nothing’s, but Ramaswamy and DeSantis will get things done. I have always thought that Trump is a poor judge of character, look at how many people in his cabinet he fired when he was president because he misjudged them, and look at who he picked as his VP last time. Pence is another do nothing, and he’s too religious, and so is Vance. I’m not against religion, but it has no place in politics if decisions will be made based on religious beliefs.
I agree with your comment, religion has no place in politics, not that politicians can’t be religious, but they can’t let their religion influence their political decisions. The constitution is very clear about the separation of church and state, that is one of the genious decisions of the founding fathers, that is one of the things that makes the US unique.

I’m willng to admit when I’m wrong. So I used the wrong words, however the US still have seperation of church and state, unlike many other countries, such as Iran and several others, and we are better off for it. I have nothing against religion, I respect people who are serious about their religion, whatever that religion might be, and actually follow their teachings, which I think few do. My parent rarely went to church and we didn’t pray at home. However, they acted more religious than most. Always had something to give to others,, even when they didn’t have much, very honest and hardworking.

The separation of church and state has nothing to do with religion not being in politics, and everything to do with government not interfering in religion. The notion that people aren’t guided miraculously to suddenly not make decisions based on their beliefs or religious values is naive. Religion and its influence can be found throughout our history and founding documents the Declaration of Independence for example ever hear of it? “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Who exactly do you the creator is?

The term “separation of church and state” comes from Thomas Jefferson and has to do with state sponsored religion. Those elected to office are in fact free to “let their religion influence their political decisions, they do it each day. Both houses of Congress open each days session for business with prayers. City Council’s can open their sessions with prayers.
I’m not an absolutist, if someone wants to pray they can do so whereever they want, as long as they don’t demand that I prey with them. I come from a country that have a state religion. I much prefer the US system. Each family should and can decide what to teach their children about religion, not the schools. When I was growing up Denmark was probably 97 percent Luthern, anyone that had a different religion felt like an outcast. Although Copenhagen had a Jewish population, and were protected during the Nazi occupation.
Please tell me excatly where in the Constitution does it say speration of church and state…hint, it does not.

I have already admitted that I was wrong. Do I know the constitution inside out, no I don’t. I do realize that whenever I’m not sure about something, I can always find the info on the internet, I failed to do that. However, my main point was that the US, unlike many countries have seperation of church and state. As for what the teach in Danish schools, it depends. I certainly learned about the US in school. I went to a small country school, (although later I went to a couple boarding schools to further my education) I had 1 and 1/2 year of English, where as children that went to school in the cities would have had 4 to 5 years of English. Even though I went to a small country school, when I left I knew more about US geograhpy and some American’s I have met. Such as D.C and the state of Washington is not the same. I knew NYC, Boston, D.C. was on the East Coast. That Miami was in Florida etc.
I like Vivek, but I would not consider him a good pick for VP. I like DeSantis, he would be a solid pick. I knew little about Vance, but was not opposed to him, and still am not, I am expecting fight from him, something Pence did not bring much of. I do not get, from the little I have seen of Vance, that he is too religious, but perhaps this country could use a bit more religion (not to Gaia or big daddy government). You are spot on Dawg, regarding President Trump’s record of selecting support staff. The only positive selections I can think of are Huckabee-Sanders, Gorsuch and Homan. I am sure there are others, but there are more negative picks.

The Republican Party didn’t schedule their convention more than a month before the Democratic Party, the Democratic Party actually scheduled their convention more than a month after the Republican Party. The out of office party chooses, schedules, and has their convention before the in office party. The Republicans chose and later scheduled their convention in the second half of 2022, and the Democrats chose and later scheduled their convention in the first half of 2023.

You’re likely correct, former President Donald Trump likely would’ve chosen a different vice presidential running mate had he known he was going to run against Vice President Kamala Harris, because that’s a different race than running against President Joe Biden.

With Biden out, there is now a competitive contest for the presidency. Trump’s selection of Vance cemented his current support, but probably didn’t gain that many additional voters. If Harris chooses a good VP candidate AND the economy stays strong (high stock prices, low current inflation, high employment, strong economic growth), she will be unbeatable. If she chooses wrong or the economy tanks before the election, she loses.
But the horse race is on! Put your money down!
The difficult situation if Harris picks someone good:
By virtue of that person being good, it will make her look bad, or at the very least worse.
A good person will likely alienate far left voters, and they’ve already demonstrated how quickly they turn against their own party.
Should that person turn out to be a white male, it will further polarize the party.
The people currently running the government want vapid candidates. A good VP won’t be vapid.

So you think 2024 could be similar to 1988, when Governor Michael Dukakis of Massachusetts chose Senator Lloyd Bentson of Texas. Bentson ended up being more popular than Dukakis once he joined the ticket. Although, a vice presidential candidates influence on the popularity of a ticket is normally negligible today, as the last time a vice presidential candidate had significant influence in a general election was in 1960, when Senator John F. “Jack” Kennedy of Massachusetts selected Senator Lyndon B. Johnson of Texas.
Unlike the Republicans, the Democrats have a deep bench of smart and experienced people. She will pick strategically and she will pick well.
Now that Biden is out of the race (thank goodness), Trump’s dementia and psychopathy are on full display. Harris is already showing herself as the happy warrior, in contrast with Trump’s dystopian portrayal of our country.
Trump and the Republican Party are ramping up for a nasty smear campaign against Harris. It is going to be an ugly 99 days. But the good people in this country should get the message about how catastrophic a second Trump term will be. If she doesn’t pick a white male, she will lose, and I think she is aware of that. So it will probably be Mark Kelly or someone like that. She might lose some of the far left (good riddance), but she already doesn’t have their support – she was Attorney Gen. and for the far left, that is already unforgivable. Kelly would help Harris carry Arizona, which she needs, and would probably pick up some stray moderate votes.
If she picks someone more liberal than herself, she loses easily to Trump.

While Arizona Senator Mark Kelly is on Kamala Harris’ short list of possible vice presidential candidates, I believe it’s unlikely that she chooses him because of Arizona’s “resign to run law” which would require him to resign his US Senate seat in order to run for vice president. Kelly likely helps Harris in Arizona, but hurts her among Michigan’s large swath of Arab voters due to his wife being Jewish and the Israeli-Hamas War being a key issue in Michigan.

Governor Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania would likely help her the most due to Pennsylvania being the swing state with the largest number of electoral votes, but Shapiro being Jewish likely hurts her among Michigan’s large Arab population due to the Israeli-Hamas War being a key issue in the state.

Governor Roy Cooper of North Carolina likely helps her in North Carolina, but probably not enough to win the state. He’s the safe choice.

Governor Andy Beshear of Kentucky is unlikely to help the ticket much at all. He largely won reelection to a second term last year due to name recognition, as his father was a two-term governor who left office in 2015, and Kentucky’s long history of voting for Democrats for governor despite being considered a red state. Republicans have only held the governorship for 16 of the last 80 years.

Governor Tony Evers of Wisconsin would likely be more helpful on the ticket because the State of Wisconsin is continually one of the closest states in presidential elections and he’d most assuredly help win the state. He’s the candidate that’s most likely to help win a state.

Well, the deficit, in billions, under President Trump was $665, $779, $984 and then $3132 (2020 chinese/fauci bat flu), cumulative deficit after 4 years was $5560, and total debt increase that 4 years was $7371. Under biden, $2772, $1376 and $1684, with cumulative deficit after 3 years was $5332) and total debt increase was $5124. For what it is worth, the CARES Act, voted for in 2020 contributed heavily to that $4 Trillion deficit, and wouldn’t you know, Harris voted for that as well.
