The Bay Area Air Quality Management District issued a Spare the Air Alert for smog for Wednesday.
District officials said air quality is forecast to be unhealthy Wednesday. The forecast says to expect very high inland temperatures in the 100s and a weak afternoon sea breeze, along with motor vehicle exhaust, all of which will create elevated concentrations of ozone, or smog.
Spare the Air Alerts are issued when ozone pollution is forecast to reach unhealthy levels.
Ozone can cause throat irritation, congestion and chest pain. It can trigger asthma, inflame the lining of the lungs and worsen bronchitis and emphysema.
Long-term exposure can reduce lung function. Ozone pollution is particularly harmful for young children, seniors and those with respiratory and heart conditions. When a Spare the Air Alert is issued, outdoor exercise should be undertaken only in the early morning hours when ozone concentrations are lower.

Will unelected bureaucrats begin mandating what trees you can have on your property?
Remove all eucalyptus trees in the state and start comparing citrus juice to fossil fuels regarding air quality.
… another example of red tape to give somebody a job…. there is no objective criteria for calling a spare the air day …. I’ve taken AQMD to task several times and they can’t give one example… not even using something like PurpleAair
Do we need BAAQMD anymore? Set a process in place for AI to generate and post messages. AI can look at the forecast and put out all the other information along with it like the above. Take the department budget and move it to the ‘fix the roads’ budget.

Yes cloud brightening is what it is called. The mainstream press wrote it up as if it is something new but it’s been around for decades. And Tennessee banded it over the whole state.
