Does anyone remember if events like this were canceled back in the day due to heat? It is indeed extremely hot, but it has gotten extremely hot every summer my entire life, and I don’t remember things getting canceled. Maybe it is just that I hear about it more now that the internet makes disseminating information more efficient. Or perhaps Americans are in poorer health due to obesity that the safety margins are smaller for such activities, etc.

Clayton started the concerts in this risk-averse modern era, so there’s no “back in the day” to compare to. The downtown configuration and the Grove park that allow public events as we now know them date to 1991 and later. Clayton Oktoberfest may have been canceled a time or two in the modern era due to heat, and the 4th lof July parade was canceled once, during COVID.

Well, I think memories are poor on this site. I’ve lived in the Bay Area for over 30 years and don’t recall a string of hot days like this even in July. Heat waves were later usually in late August and at that manageable because PG&E wasn’t in Robber Baron mode because they had energy sources that since the goody two shoes have mindlessly taken from us.

I moved to Concord in July 1978 from Pacifica. It was 110F that day and I remember that summer pattern for years. Fortunately, I was working in San Francisco so could cool off there.

Yep, bunch of whimpy’s

The band members canceled because they are cry babies.ever met a normal musician?

I hurried back from the City for this so was disappointed but understand that it would have been unhealthy for the band.

And they were going to play cool music too.

“Stay home, Stay safe”. LOL. You all stood down in 2020, more to come.

Should be interesting when they start closing down roadways due to a “climate emergency”.

Has the concert with Strange Brew been rescheduled to another weekend? We were looking forward to it but understand why they cancelled – it would have been especially hot for the musicians and other folks working the event.

Concerts have indeed been cancelled in the past due to heat, and for heavy smoke in the air in past years.
